Direct payment

Geographic scope

Belgium (nationwide)

Valid in Belgium and in all countries not crossed out on the international motor vehicle insurance certificate that must be carried in the vehicle at all times.

Unique selling points

  • Life-long insurance guarantee: customers aged 55-65 who have been with KBC Insurance for 5+ years and accident-free for 5 years are guaranteed the compulsory policy will never be cancelled, even after a claim.
  • Automatic 10% discount on the compulsory third-party liability premium for careful drivers, with a 'joker' earned after five consecutive accident-free years that protects the discount even after one at-fault accident.
  • KBC Start2Drive lets a policyholder's child learning to drive be added to the family policy with no extra premium for 24 months after obtaining a provisional licence.
  • KBC MyFirstCar offers young drivers an inexpensive stand-alone car insurance policy in their own name.
  • Cover can be taken out fully online without a branch visit, while claims are supported personally by a local KBC insurance agent.

Source

Source

Legal assistance insurance

Optional

Legal Assistance Insurance is listed as a separate cover that can be included, alongside the compulsory liability cover, within the KBC Vehicle Insurance for Passenger Cars policy; it is not part of the base third-party liability cover itself.

Source

International motor insurance certificate (green card)

Covered

The compulsory liability cover comes with an international motor vehicle insurance certificate; cover extends to Belgium and to any country not crossed out on that certificate.

Source

Roadside assistance

Optional

Under the compulsory liability cover, the vehicle is entitled to free towing following an accident in Belgium; broader 24/7 breakdown and accident assistance is offered separately as the optional KBC-VAB Assistance cover within the same vehicle policy.

Driver accident insurance

Optional

The Driver Accident Insurance is listed as a separate, optional cover that can be included alongside the compulsory liability cover in the KBC Vehicle Insurance for Passenger Cars policy; it is not part of the base third-party liability cover.

Injuries sustained by passengers in a traffic accident involving the insured car are covered under the liability cover as vulnerable road users, even if the policyholder is not at fault.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Valid in Belgium and in all countries not crossed out on the international motor vehicle insurance certificate that must be carried in the vehicle.

Green card rules

Coverage abroad is determined by the international motor insurance certificate: cover applies in Belgium and in every country listed on the certificate that has not been crossed out.

Driver restrictions

If a policyholder's son or daughter is learning to drive, they are covered under the parent's policy via KBC Start2Drive, with no extra premium for 24 months after obtaining their provisional licence; KBC MyFirstCar lets them take out an inexpensive policy in their own name.

Bonus-malus rules

Careful drivers get a 10% discount on the compulsory third-party liability premium; causing an at-fault accident without a joker suspends the discount for a year, returning after a further claim-free year. KBC grants a joker after five consecutive years without an at-fault claim, letting the discounted premium survive one at-fault accident. Customers aged 55-65 who have been with KBC Insurance for at least 5 years and accident-free for 5 years also get a life-long guarantee that the compulsory policy will not be cancelled, even after a claim.
