Regulatory updates
Latvijas Banka continues to act as the single financial market supervisor in Latvia. In 2026 the regulator prepared proposals for improving insurance service provision, aiming to make insurance product information documents clearer and more comparable for policyholders, and has been consulting with the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Finance and the Latvian Insurers Association on the required legislative changes. Separately, from 5 January 2026 Latvijas Banka's Regulation No. 409 introduced digital operational resilience requirements for financial market participants, including insurers, that fall outside the scope of the EU's DORA regulation. BALTA continues to hold a valid insurance licence and remains in good regulatory standing, with no publicly reported enforcement actions; in mid-2026 the company also introduced new political-conflict-risk cover for corporate and residential property policies in response to rising geopolitical and drone-related risks in the region.
