Compensa Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń S.A. Vienna Insurance Group
Compensa
Compensa is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Poland market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Compensa offers BLS (Bezpośrednia Likwidacja Szkód – Direct Claims Settlement) as an optional paid add-on to the OC policy. Under BLS, Compensa directly handles and settles the insured's own vehicle damage caused by a third party insured with a different insurer, without the policyholder needing to pursue the at-fault party's insurer. BLS is available only for accidents on Polish territory involving exactly two registered vehicles where the other vehicle is covered by another insurer's MTPL policy.
Geographic scope
Poland and all signatory states of the Multilateral Agreement
Coverage applies in Poland and, on a reciprocity basis, in all countries whose national bureaus are signatories to the Multilateral Agreement. Green Card required for travel to non-EU countries outside the multilateral agreement (Albania, Azerbaijan, Iran, Morocco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine).
Unique selling points
- Free Green Card (international certificate of insurance) issued automatically with every OC policy, valid in all Multilateral Agreement signatory countries.
- Optional BLS (Direct Claims Settlement) add-on allows Compensa to handle and settle the insured's own vehicle damage caused by a third party, without the policyholder pursuing a different insurer directly.
- Flexible premium payment: OC can be paid in a single lump sum or in instalments, with payment terms specified on the policy certificate.
- Streamlined digital claims process via compensa.pl with three settlement paths: simplified mobile app self-assessment, partner workshop, or standard expert inspection, with payouts possible within 5 business days on the simplified path.
- 24/7 assistance helpline (+48 22 639 20 11) and online assistance request available at compensa.pl for immediate roadside help as an optional Assistance add-on.
Coverage limits
Bodily Injury Liability – Guarantee Sum

Property Damage Liability – Guarantee Sum
Covered
The insurer's liability limit for property damage is EUR 1,000,000 per insured event, regardless of the number of victims. The sum represents the equivalent in PLN at the NBP exchange rate.
Legal Defence
Excluded
Legal defence is not included in the core MTPL (OC) policy. Compensa offers a separate 'Asysta Prawna' (Legal Assistance) add-on available within the Compensa Komunikacja voluntary insurance package, not as part of the mandatory OC itself.
Green Card – International Certificate of Insurance
Covered
A Green Card (international certificate of insurance) is issued free of charge with every OC policy, confirming valid liability coverage in European countries and other signatory nations of the multilateral agreement. It is mandatory for travel to certain countries outside the EU multilateral zone.
Roadside Assistance (Assistance)
Optional
Roadside assistance is not included in the core MTPL (OC) policy. It is available as an optional paid add-on (Assistance) within the Compensa Komunikacja package, in two variants: 'Baza' (basic: on-site repair and towing for road accidents) and 'Rozszerzony' (extended: broader event coverage, replacement vehicle, hotel accommodation, medical transport, etc.).
Driver Accident Insurance (NNW)
Optional
Personal accident cover for the driver is not included in the mandatory OC policy. It is available as an optional paid add-on (NNW – Następstwa Nieszczęśliwych Wypadków) within the Compensa Komunikacja package, covering permanent injury, death, and medical costs arising from a traffic accident. The insured sum is set separately per insured person.
Passenger Accident Insurance (NNW)
Optional
Personal accident cover for passengers is not included in the mandatory OC policy. The NNW add-on within the Compensa Komunikacja package covers the driver and passengers (persons travelling in the insured vehicle) for permanent injury, death, and medical costs arising from a traffic accident directly connected with the movement of the insured vehicle.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
The OC policy covers events occurring in Poland (Republic of Poland) and, on a reciprocity basis, in the territories of countries whose national bureaux are signatories to the Multilateral Agreement. Bodily injury and property damage arising from the use of the insured vehicle within this territory are covered.
Green card rules
A Green Card is issued free of charge with the OC policy and serves as an international certificate of insurance for travel abroad. It is mandatory for entry to: Albania, Azerbaijan, Iran, Morocco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Ukraine. EU member states and most EEA countries accept the standard vehicle registration document as proof of OC insurance.
Driver restrictions
The insurer has the right to pursue recourse against the driver who caused the damage if the driver: (1) caused damage intentionally, under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, psychotropic substances, or similar; (2) obtained the vehicle through a criminal offence; (3) did not hold the required driving licence (except in cases of saving life or property or pursuit after a crime); (4) fled the scene of the accident. The OC policy covers third-party liability regardless of who was driving (within the scope of the vehicle's operation), but recourse rights apply in the above situations.
Claim notification deadline
In the event of an insured event, the policyholder must: immediately notify the police if there are casualties or circumstances suggesting a criminal offence; provide other parties involved with the insurer's identification details; and promptly notify Compensa of the event, providing all relevant explanations and information. The insured and the claimant must cooperate with the insurer, the Insurance Guarantee Fund (UFG), and the Polish Motor Insurers' Bureau (PBUK) to establish the circumstances and extent of the loss.
Bonus-malus rules
Compensa applies a bonus-malus system when calculating the OC premium. The premium is determined based on the policyholder's claims history. An optional 'Loss of Discount Protection' (OUZ – Ochrona Utraty Zniżki) add-on is available, which preserves the earned no-claims discount after the first claim in a policy year. Automatic contract renewal applies: the OC contract automatically renews for successive 12-month periods unless terminated in writing by no later than one day before policy expiry.
