Direct payment

Concordia participates in the Direct Damage Settlement system (BLS – Bezpośrednia Likwidacja Szkód) since 1 April 2015 under an agreement of the Polish Insurance Chamber (PIU), allowing the injured party to claim compensation directly from their own insurer.

Geographic scope

Nationwide – Republic of Poland

Mandatory OC covers third-party liability arising from vehicle use in Poland and in Green Card member states (via the separate ZK add-on). Basic ASK assistance covers events in Poland only; Standard/Premium ASK covers Europe (excluding Moldova) for cars and vans.

Unique selling points

  • Basic roadside assistance (ASK Basic) is automatically included at no extra charge with every OC policy, covering on-site repair, towing up to 50 km, and guarded parking.
  • Participation in the Direct Damage Settlement (BLS) system since 2015, allowing injured parties to file claims directly with their own insurer for faster compensation.
  • Optional Legal Protection (OPK) add-on with a 100,000 PLN sum insured per event covers attorney fees, court costs, bail bonds and more for vehicle-related legal disputes in Poland and across Europe.
  • Premium ASK variant offers towing up to 300 km (when bundled with ACK casco), replacement vehicle for up to 15 days in case of theft, and hotel accommodation in a 3-star hotel – significantly above the minimum market standard.
  • BM protection clause available as an optional add-on for both OC and AC, preventing the first claim in a policy year from downgrading the customer's no-claims discount class.

Coverage limits

Bodily Injury Liability (statutory guarantee sum)

The statutory guarantee sum per single event (regardless of number of injured parties) is 29,876,400 PLN (approx. 6.45 million EUR at the NBP exchange rate on the day of loss), as set by the Act of 22 May 2003 as amended effective 6 November 2024. Key conditions

Territorial scope

The mandatory OC (MTPL) covers third-party liability arising from vehicle use throughout the Republic of Poland. Extended Green Card (ZK) coverage is available as an optional add-on for use in countries whose national bureaux are signatories of the Uniform Agreement between National Bureaux. The insurer's liability under ZK begins at the moment the Polish border is crossed. For events in countries other than Poland, Concordia pays up to the mandatory minimum of the country of the event, but not less than the Polish statutory guarantee sum.

Green card rules

The Green Card (ZK) is an optional separate add-on to the OC policy, confirmed by an International Motor Insurance Certificate. It must be carried and presented to control authorities on demand during foreign travel. Without a separate ZK agreement, international coverage beyond Poland is not automatically included in the standard OC policy. Duration: minimum 15 days, maximum 12 months. Upon termination, the original Green Card certificate must be returned to the insurer.

Driver restrictions

Any person authorized by the vehicle holder to drive the insured vehicle is covered as a driver. The insurer has a right of recourse against the driver if the driver: caused damage intentionally or under the influence of alcohol or drugs; obtained the vehicle through a criminal act; lacked required driving authorization (except in cases of life-saving or pursuit after a crime); or fled the scene of the event.

Claim notification deadline

For claims under the Green Card (ZK), the insured or driver must notify Concordia in writing within 14 days of the date of the event, providing the circumstances and available evidence. For claims directed against the insured, immediate notification (no later than 14 days) is required upon receipt of a claim or summons. Failure to notify does not release the insurer from liability towards the injured third party, but the insured may be required to reimburse amounts the insurer would not otherwise have paid.

Bonus-malus rules

The Bonus-Malus (BM) class system is used to determine premium discounts or surcharges based on the claims history of the insured vehicle or the named insured/lessee. The BM class for OCK (MTPL) is tracked separately from the ACK (Casco) class. An optional 'BM protection clause' is available for an additional premium, under which the first loss event in a policy year is not counted against the BM class for purposes of premium calculation. For Green Card (ZK) and OC, the BM protection clause does not apply if the age of the at-fault driver is younger than the declared minimum driver age bracket at policy inception.
