Direct payment

Optional direct settlement clause (decontare directă) allows the injured third party to claim compensation from their own insurer (Asirom) instead of the at-fault driver's insurer, subject to conditions: accident on Romanian territory, exclusively material damages, no bodily injuries, and both vehicles must be registered in Romania.

Geographic scope

Romania and international (EEA, Switzerland, transit states)

Valid in Romania, EU member states, EEA member states, Switzerland, and states that directly connect two EU member states where no national bureau exists. For accidents outside Romania, the legislation and compensation limits of the respective state apply.

Unique selling points

  • Covers third-party bodily injury and death up to 6,070,000 EUR per event – the maximum legally mandated limit in Romania – ensuring full statutory protection.
  • Optional direct settlement clause (decontare directă) lets Asirom policyholders who are accident victims have their vehicle repaired directly by Asirom without contacting the at-fault driver's insurer.
  • Green Card coverage automatically included for travel across all EEA member states and Switzerland, providing seamless cross-border MTPL protection.
  • Policy can be purchased and managed fully online via the MyAsirom portal, with instant policy issuance by email and online claims filing available.
  • Part of Vienna Insurance Group, one of Central and Eastern Europe's largest insurance groups, providing strong financial backing and stability for claims payment.

Green Card – International Insurance Certificate

Covered

The RCA policy is valid in Romania, EU member states, EEA member states, Switzerland, and transit states connecting two EU member states. Roadside Assistance

Excluded

Standalone roadside assistance (breakdown cover, towing outside accident context) is not included in the standard Asirom RCA policy. Note: transport costs for a damaged vehicle from the accident site to the repair shop are covered under property damage liability if the vehicle cannot move under its own power, but this is limited to accident-related towing only and does not constitute a roadside assistance product.

Driver Accident Cover

Excluded

The Asirom RCA policy explicitly excludes damages to property belonging to the driver responsible for the accident, as well as damages arising from bodily injury or death of that driver, regardless of who claims such compensation. The at-fault driver's own injuries or death are not covered under this third-party liability policy.

Passenger Accident (Third-Party Bodily Injury)

Covered

Passengers of other vehicles and pedestrians injured as third parties in an accident caused by the insured vehicle are covered under the bodily injury liability coverage up to 6,070,000 EUR per event. Passengers of the at-fault vehicle are also covered as third parties (they are not the owner/user/driver responsible for the accident). Note: this is third-party liability cover, not a standalone passenger accident benefit.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

The RCA policy is valid in Romania, all EU member states, all EEA member states, Switzerland, and states that directly connect two EU member states where no national bureau exists. The specific countries are listed on the Green Card document. For accidents outside Romania, the legislation and compensation limits of the respective state apply.

Green card rules

The Green Card (international insurance certificate) is issued with the RCA policy and confirms coverage validity in EEA member states and Switzerland. Insurers may extend territorial validity beyond the statutory minimum. Countries covered are listed in the insurance contract. For accidents abroad, indemnification is subject to the law of the country where the accident occurred.

Driver restrictions

Any person driving the insured vehicle with the owner's consent is covered. However, no compensation is paid for damages to property belonging to the driver responsible for the accident, or for that driver's own bodily injury or death. Vehicles used exclusively for training, races, competitions, or legally organized rallies are excluded from the mandatory RCA requirement (optional coverage is available for such risks).

Claim notification deadline

Following a vehicle accident, the policyholder must notify the RCA insurer within 5 working days from the date of the accident. The policyholder must provide information about the causes and circumstances of the accident and all documents necessary for claim handling. Failure to meet this deadline does not limit the injured third party's right to compensation.

Bonus-malus rules

The Bonus-Malus system is regulated by ASF norms and automatically applied to all RCA policies. Policyholders receive premium discounts (Bonus) for claim-free periods and premium surcharges (Malus) for claims paid during the reference period. The system is designed to promote responsible driving behavior.
