Key conditions

Territorial scope

For passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 7.5t GVW: valid in Romania, all EU member states, EEA countries (Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland), Switzerland, and the following non-EU Green Card countries: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Morocco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine. For all other vehicle categories: valid in Romania, EU member states, EEA countries, and Switzerland only. Vehicles registered in other states are not covered.

Green card rules

The RCA policy issued by Generali Romania automatically constitutes the Green Card document for travel in the covered territories listed above. The insurer must have a claims representative in each covered state. Vehicles registered outside Romania may not use this policy for coverage within Romania.

Driver restrictions

The policyholder must declare the drivers on the contract. The bonus-malus classification is based on the driving history of the insured/declared drivers. If the vehicle is taken and used without the owner's consent and this is reported in writing to the police, the insured's bonus-malus class is not affected.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify the RCA insurer of an insured event within 5 working days of the accident occurring. Within the same 5-day period the policyholder must also notify the insurer if: (a) the injured party has claimed compensation from it; (b) criminal or administrative proceedings have been initiated against the policyholder; (c) the injured party has filed a claim with a court or authority; (d) information in the RCA contract has changed during the contract period.

Bonus-malus rules

The bonus-malus system has 17 classes: base class B0 (100% of premium), 8 bonus classes (B1–B8, ranging from 95% down to 50% of premium) and 8 malus classes (M1–M8, ranging from 110% up to 180% of premium). New policyholders without insurance history start at B0. Each claim-free year advances the policyholder one bonus class. Each paid claim results in a two-class malus penalty. Individual policyholders holding multiple vehicles share the same bonus-malus class across all vehicles. Legal entities apply bonus-malus separately per vehicle.
