Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured event must be reported IMMEDIATELY to the insurer's assistance bureau. In the case of hospitalizations or repeated ambulatory treatments, the bureau must be notified IMMEDIATELY. Failure to notify may result in the insurer being exempt from paying compensation.

Unauthorized treatment

If emergency transport is performed by an organization other than the one designated by the insurer, reimbursement is excluded. Similarly, costs reimbursed from another source for emergency transport or medical treatment will not be compensated again (subsidiary coverage principle).

Purchase while abroad

The insurance contract must be concluded before the journey begins. Coverage starts on the date stated in the policy after payment of the premium, but no earlier than the start of the journey. If the policy issue date and start date are the same, coverage begins at 00:00 of the following day.

Chronic conditions

Persons with serious conditions requiring treatment, serious physical or mental disability, mental disorders, or nervous system diseases cannot be insured (Art. 3.2 CGAC). If such a condition develops during the contract, coverage ceases at the end of the current journey.

Pregnancy

Termination of pregnancy, treatments resulting from contraceptive measures, pregnancies, and childbirths are explicitly excluded from medical expense coverage (CGAC §II.3.2.4).

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Events that had already occurred at the start of the journey or were foreseeable are excluded (CGAC §9.11). This includes illnesses existing before the contract was drawn up (§II.3.2.2). Medical treatments whose necessity was known before the journey began are also excluded.

Coverage duration limit

Coverage is valid for the period stated in the policy. If the insured becomes untransportable abroad due to illness or accident, the indemnity obligation extends beyond the stated term by a maximum of two months (CGAC §II.7.1). The insured sum represents the maximum limit for all compensations paid for damages arising from a single insured event during the insurance period.
