P&V Assurances - P&V Verzekeringen CV
P&V
P&V is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Belgium market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
As a third-party liability (BA) policy, P&V indemnifies injured third parties directly; the company also has the right (but not the obligation) to pay compensation to the injured party itself when its interests coincide with the insured's, and it advances legal-protection costs (lawyers, experts, bail) rather than requiring the policyholder to pay first.
Geographic scope
Belgium (nationwide)
Cover applies in Belgium and in every country listed on the insurance certificate (the former 'green card', now a white document); a country that is crossed out on the certificate is excluded unless a temporary extension is requested from the insurer.
Unique selling points
- P&V's car legal protection (via Arces) has won the Decavi award for best Car Legal Protection in Belgium for 12 consecutive years.
- Combining BA with other P&V policies (home, family, etc.) can bring a total premium discount of up to 40%.
- A no-extra-cost 'BOB' guarantee is built into the BA cover: if a sober designated driver causes an accident with the insured's car, the policy still covers the damage.
- Digital tools let customers pay and sign online so cover can start immediately, with policy documents sent by e-mail the same day.
- A dedicated 24/7 assistance line (02 229 00 11) covers the vehicle, the family and the individual, not just breakdown/accident towing.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
unlimited
There is no indemnity limit for damages resulting from bodily injury caused to third parties by the insured vehicle.
Legal protection (Protection juridique)
€125,000
Only in Protection juridique - Titre 2
Optional legal protection guarantee (Title 2), managed by Arces, covering legal fees, expert and lawyer costs up to EUR 125,000 including VAT per claim; sub-guarantees such as insolvency of third parties, advance of funds, penal bail and vehicle repatriation are capped at EUR 25,000 including VAT.
Green card / international insurance certificate
Covered
Every BA policy automatically includes an insurance certificate (the former 'green card', now a white document) proving cover in Belgium and in every non-crossed-out country listed on it; no separate premium applies for this certificate.
Roadside assistance (Assistance)
Optional
Only in Assistance Accident, Assistance Vol, Assistance Panne
Optional Assistance guarantee (Title 5), run via P&V Assistance/IMA Benelux, covering breakdown, accident and theft assistance: roadside repair, towing, vehicle transport/repatriation, replacement vehicle and occupant transport/hotel costs, subject to service-specific sub-limits (e.g. towing reimbursed up to EUR 250 in Belgium / EUR 400 abroad when P&V Assistance was not called in advance).
Driver protection (Protection du conducteur)
€1,250,000
Only in Droit commun, Formule forfaitaire
Optional guarantee (Title 3) covering the insured driver's own bodily injury or death; under the 'common law' (Droit commun) formula total indemnities are capped at EUR 1,250,000 per claim, indexed annually; a flat-rate ('Formule forfaitaire') alternative sets its own capital sums in the special conditions.
Passenger accident cover
unlimited
Passengers carried in the insured vehicle are treated as third parties and are compensated, without any indemnity ceiling for bodily injury, whenever the insured driver is held liable for the accident; the liable driver's own bodily injury is excluded from this liability cover (a separate optional Driver protection guarantee applies to the driver).
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover is granted for accidents occurring in any country for which cover is confirmed on the insurance certificate; outside Belgium the cover follows the compulsory motor insurance law of the country where the accident occurred, unless Belgian law grants broader protection.
Green card rules
The insurer issues an insurance certificate (replacing the former green card, now a white document) listing the countries where cover applies; countries crossed out on the certificate are not covered unless a temporary extension is requested from the insurer.
Driver restrictions
Third parties remain covered regardless of who was driving, but the insurer has recourse against the policyholder and/or the insured if, at the time of the claim, the vehicle was driven by someone below the legal minimum age, without a valid driving licence for that vehicle, in breach of licence restrictions, or disqualified from driving in Belgium.
Claim notification deadline
Every claim must be reported in writing immediately and at the latest within 8 days of its occurrence, though the insurer cannot invoke a late declaration if it was made as soon as reasonably possible.
Bonus-malus rules
P&V applies an a-posteriori personalisation (bonus-malus) scale running from degree -2 (lowest premium level, 54% of base) to degree 22 (highest, 200% of base); a new policyholder normally enters at degree 11 (adjusted for driving experience and recent at-fault claims), the degree drops by 1 for each claim-free observed year and rises by 5 degrees per at-fault third-party-liability claim.
