Snowboarding and alpine skiing on marked runs at ski resorts is covered only if the 'HIGH-RISK ACTIVITY' endorsement is noted on the policy (point 43.4). 24/7 assistance service

Covered

24/7 telephone assistance is included with all If travel insurance policies. The insured can call +372 777 1211 at any time for guidance, to arrange hospitalization, repatriation, or burial/cremation abroad. Assistance is available in the insured's mother tongue. Costs of calls made from abroad to If or its claims handling partners are reimbursed up to 200 EUR per policy period (point 120).

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

For hospitalization, the insured must call If immediately (point 36). For outpatient (non-hospitalization) treatment, the insured may attend a licensed medical facility directly without calling If first; however, If may be contacted for guidance on which facility to use (point 35). Repatriation and burial/cremation arrangements must always be pre-coordinated with If (points 31, 33).

Unauthorized treatment

If does not reimburse repatriation costs if the insured returned from the trip without prior coordination with If or ignored the instructions of If or the doctor regarding return (point 38/158). If the If-approved doctor considers repatriation possible but the ill or injured insured refuses, If will not cover any further costs (point 39/159). Hospitalization costs not pre-approved by If are not reimbursed (point 37).

Purchase while abroad

Travel insurance is only concluded for trips commencing from Estonia (point 4). If the insured has already departed from Estonia before the policy is concluded, the policyholder must inform If at the time of conclusion (point 5). Special agreement is required for trips not starting from Estonia; this is noted on the policy. Persons who have been outside Estonia for more than one year may only obtain travel insurance by special arrangement (point 6).

Chronic conditions

Costs related to a pre-existing illness (including chronic diseases) that began before the trip are excluded (point 155/163). Exception: emergency first aid for a life-threatening acute exacerbation of a chronic disease during the trip is covered under medical expenses insurance. Chronic disease is also an exclusion for travel interruption/cancellation (point 163).

Pregnancy

Emergency medical costs for unexpected pregnancy complications (including premature birth) are covered up to 27 weeks of pregnancy (TT-20221). Note: the If website and TT-20251 reference 28 weeks — a conflict exists between the uploaded TT-20221 and the current terms. Childbirth, post-natal care, and complications thereof are not covered for either the mother or the newborn, except as noted above (points 22–24, 157). Travel interruption due to pregnancy/complications is also excluded (point 165).

pre_existing_conditions

Pre-existing conditions (illnesses or injuries that commenced before the trip) are generally excluded from medical expenses coverage (point 155) and from travel interruption/cancellation coverage (point 163). The sole exception is emergency first aid for a life-threatening acute exacerbation of a chronic disease during the trip, which is covered under medical expenses.

coverage_duration_limit

Coverage applies only for insured events occurring during the insurance period on a covered trip. The insurance period must not be shorter than the trip duration (point 9). For multi-trip (annual) policies, each individual trip is limited to the number of days noted on the policy (30, 45, 60, or 90 days); coverage lapses for any days exceeding that limit (point 12). The insurance period may be automatically extended by 48 hours if a travel interruption insured event causes the insured to still be abroad at the end of the insurance period, provided travel interruption insurance is noted on the policy (point 11).

Travel origin requirement

Insurance protection applies only when trip commences from Estonia. If trip begins outside Estonia, coverage does not apply.

Medical treatment coverage becomes effective immediately upon payment. Travel interruption coverage has 3-day waiting period from policy issuance, requiring policy to be purchased at least 3 days before trip departure.

Insurance period must match trip duration

Insurance coverage period must not be longer or shorter than actual trip duration from Estonia departure to Estonia return. Coverage applies from policy start date to end date specified, regardless of actual travel duration mismatch.

Geographic coverage scope selection

Insured sum (coverage limit) selection

Policyholder must select appropriate coverage amounts for each protection type based on trip destination, duration, and expected costs. Medical treatment coverage limits vary by destination (treatment costs differ significantly globally). Travel interruption sum should reflect prepaid trip costs and potential re-booking expenses.

Age restrictions for online purchase

Online purchase and self-service policy issuance available only for insured persons up to age 75. Persons older than 75 must contact IF directly by phone to arrange coverage.

IF Plus Bonus Program discounts
