Key conditions

Territorial scope

Cover applies in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands; liability cover extends to the rest of Europe for up to 60 days, and the optional Comprehensive Cover Abroad benefit extends full cover to Europe for up to 90 days

Driver restrictions

No cover applies for any driver not insured under the policy, without a valid licence to drive in Ireland, driving on a learner permit without a qualified accompanying driver, not meeting licence conditions, disqualified from driving or who failed to disclose penalty points/convictions, or a motor trade employee driving the car while it is being repaired, serviced or overhauled

Claim notification deadline

You must immediately notify OUTsurance of any event that may lead to a claim; in the case of theft, attempted theft, vandalism or other deliberate/malicious acts, the event must be reported to An Garda Síochána (or relevant police authority) within 24 hours

Bonus-malus rules

OUTsurance does not operate a traditional No Claims Discount (NCD) scale. Instead, it states: "At OUTsurance, we don't believe a No Claims Discount scale is necessary to give a competitively priced insurance premium," and instead prices premiums individually from the outset, giving customers switching from other insurers full credit for their claims-free years. Customers continue to build claims-free years while insured with OUTsurance and receive a full No Claims Bonus Certificate detailing claims-free years (with OUTsurance and prior insurers) if they leave, which can be used to obtain an NCD with a future insurer. Separately, OUTsurance offers the 'OUTbonus' loyalty reward: after three consecutive claim-free years, policyholders receive 10% of their paid insurance premiums (excluding taxes and levies) back in cash, with a new OUTbonus cycle starting immediately after payout.
