SourceKey conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must notify the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (+353 1 920 3988) as soon as possible of any hospital admission or before any repatriation arrangements are made. Failure to do so may affect the ability to claim.
Unauthorized treatment
This is not a private medical insurance policy. The policy only covers emergency medical and surgical treatment and not treatment that can reasonably be delayed until return to the Republic of Ireland. If the insured refuses AXA's decision on repatriation or treatment, all cover under Sections 1, 2 and 5 will be withdrawn.
Purchase while abroad
Any trip that has already begun when the insurance is purchased will not be covered. The policy must be in place before the trip commences.
Chronic conditions
Chronic and ongoing conditions (including respiratory conditions, heart conditions, cancer, stroke, epilepsy, Crohn's disease) for which the insured has received treatment or prescribed medication in the last 5 years must be declared to AXA Medical Screening (01 299 4699) and accepted in writing before cover applies. Failure to declare may result in claim refusal.
Pregnancy
Normal pregnancy and routine childbirth are explicitly excluded. Pregnancy complications as specifically defined in the policy (e.g. ectopic pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, miscarriage, medically necessary Caesarean section, premature birth more than 8 weeks early) are covered under Section 2 within the overall medical emergency limit.
pre_existing_conditions
All pre-existing medical conditions must be declared. The policy excludes any condition for which the insured has received prescribed medication or check-ups within the last 12 months, or any of the listed serious conditions treated within the last 5 years, unless AXA Medical Screening has been contacted on 01 299 4699 and written acceptance has been provided. Cover may be subject to an additional premium. Conditions must be declared within 14 days of purchase or before departure, whichever is sooner.
coverage_duration_limit
This policy is for a single trip. Cover is provided for the period of the trip as shown in the policy schedule. The policy covers only persons permanently resident in the Republic of Ireland and registered with a medical practitioner in Ireland.
