FBD Travel Insurance is a travel insurance for the IE market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
If a Person Insured is admitted to hospital abroad, the hospital or attending Doctor will be contacted and payment of fees up to the policy limit will be guaranteed by Chubb Assistance so that the Person Insured does not have to make the payment from their own funds. For all other claims, reimbursement is made after submission of receipts and supporting documentation.

Medical and Additional Expenses
Covered
Covers emergency medical (excluding dental), repatriation and travel expenses incurred during a holiday abroad up to €5,000,000 per Person Insured. Includes necessary hospital, surgical or other diagnostic treatment given or prescribed by a Doctor, charges for staying in a hospital or nursing home, and burial/body repatriation up to €10,000. Dental expenses are covered only for the relief of pain up to €300. A €90 excess applies per person per claim.

Covered
Emergency medical treatment abroad is covered under Section 5 (Medical and Additional Expenses) up to €5,000,000 per Person Insured. A Person Insured must contact Chubb Assistance before incurring any costs, or as soon as feasible in a genuine emergency. This is not private medical insurance. Pre-existing conditions that conflict with eligibility statements are excluded.

Inpatient hospital charges are covered within the overall Medical Expenses limit of €5,000,000. Additionally, a Hospital Benefit of €20 per full 24 hours as an in-patient is payable up to a maximum of €400 per holiday (Section 6). For the Holiday Plus variant, inpatient medical expenses only begin to be covered once the limit of the insured's private medical insurance has been exhausted.

Outpatient medical treatment (including necessary surgical or other diagnostic treatment given or prescribed by a Doctor) is covered within the overall Medical Expenses limit of €5,000,000 under Section 5. Repatriation and travel expenses are covered within the overall Medical Expenses limit of €5,000,000. Repatriation must be authorised by Chubb Assistance, necessary on medical grounds, and to Ireland. Additional travel and hotel expenses including for one other person if the insured has to be accompanied on medical advice are also covered. Any additional travelling expenses must be authorised by Chubb Assistance.

If the Doctor appointed by Chubb Assistance believes treatment in Ireland is preferable, transfer will be arranged by regular scheduled transport services, or by air or road ambulance if more urgent treatment and/or specialist care is required during the holiday.

SourceCovid-19 Treatment
Conditional
The policy covers some specific scenarios relating to Covid-19 including medical and repatriation expenses within the overall medical expenses limit of €5,000,000. Cancellation due to Covid-19 is covered (up to €3,000) where the positive test is certified in writing by a licensed pharmacy, laboratory or treating doctor, recognised by the Irish Government. Costs arising from government travel restrictions, lockdowns, or border closures due to communicable disease are excluded. Expenses from extensions of stay for quarantine past the return date are also covered under specific conditions.

Pre-existing medical conditions or injuries that conflict with statements made in the eligibility section of the application process are excluded from cover. Cancellation or curtailment due to an immediate family member or travelling companion becoming ill due to a pre-existing medical condition is also excluded. Medical expenses for pre-existing conditions or where travelling against the advice of a doctor are not covered.

Optional
Optional additional cover for winter sports activities (skiing including off-piste, tobogganing, snowboarding, and ice skating other than on an indoor rink). Covers up to €300 for unused ski passes, hire and tuition fees; €200 for ski equipment hire; €200 for piste closure; and up to €100 for avalanche delay. Limited to a maximum of 21 days total in the period of insurance. Competitive winter sports are excluded. An additional premium must be paid and the cover must be shown on the Policy Schedule.

Aerial pursuits and hazardous activities are excluded from cover. Excluded activities include ballooning, bungee jumping, gliding, hang-gliding, microlighting, parachuting, paragliding, parascending, mountaineering requiring ropes or guides, potholing, organised sporting holidays or trips, motorcycle travel over 125cc, scuba diving deeper than 30 metres, and speed or endurance tests. No optional adventure sports extension is available.

Complications in pregnancy as diagnosed by a Doctor or specialist in obstetrics are covered within the medical expenses limit of €5,000,000, and also trigger cancellation cover. If travelling between 28 and 35 weeks pregnant, written confirmation from a Doctor of fitness to travel must be obtained no earlier than 5 days prior to the outbound travel date. Normal pregnancy and childbirth costs are not a covered peril.

Covers legal liability for accidental bodily injury (including death, illness or disease) to any person or accidental loss of or damage to material property arising during the holiday, up to €2,500,000 per Person Insured. Legal costs and expenses are covered in addition to the limit of liability. Wilful or malicious acts, use of mechanically propelled vehicles (except golf buggies on courses), and business-related activities are excluded. No excess applies.

Claims must be reported within 24 months of the incident. Services include medical referral, repatriation arrangement, hospital bill payment guarantee, drug replacement assistance, transmission of urgent messages, unsupervised children assistance, emergency fund transfer, message relay, personal property tracing, replacement travel documents assistance, lost credit card advice, emergency translation, and legal help referral.

Assistance call deadline
A Person Insured must contact Chubb Assistance on +353 (0)1 440 2573 before incurring any costs covered under the Medical and Additional Expenses section, or as soon as feasible if involved in a medical emergency such as an accident or cardiac situation. Failure to do so may result in rejection or reduction of the claim.
Unauthorized treatment
If a Person Insured receives medical treatment without first contacting Chubb Assistance (unless in a genuine emergency), the insurer may reject or reduce the claim. Additional travelling expenses not authorised by Chubb Assistance are also excluded. Any decision to not move hospital or return to Ireland after Chubb Assistance deems it medically appropriate will result in subsequent expenses being excluded.
Purchase while abroad
The policy cannot be purchased while already abroad. Cover under all sections other than Cancellation commences on the dates shown on the Policy Schedule. For single trip policies, cancellation cover commences from the date the policy is purchased.
Chronic conditions
Chronic or pre-existing medical conditions that conflict with statements made in the eligibility section of the application are excluded. Medication a Person Insured is taking before and must continue taking during a holiday is also not covered. Post-traumatic stress disorder or any psychological or psychiatric condition diagnosed before a holiday begins is excluded.
Pregnancy
Complications in pregnancy are covered under both Medical Expenses and Cancellation sections. If travelling between 28 and 35 weeks pregnant, written confirmation from a Doctor of fitness to travel must be obtained no earlier than 5 days prior to the outbound travel date. Normal pregnancy and routine ante-natal costs are not covered.

Pre-existing medical conditions or injuries that conflict with statements made on page 3 of the application process (the eligibility section) are excluded from all cover. Cancellation or curtailment arising from a pre-existing condition affecting an immediate family member or travelling companion is also excluded even if they are not insured on the policy.
coverage_duration_limit
For single trip policies, the maximum duration of any one trip is 30 consecutive days. For annual multi-trip policies, no individual holiday abroad may exceed 30 consecutive days, and a maximum of 90 days in total may be spent on holidays abroad in any period of insurance. Cover will end at the earlier of arrival at the return destination in Ireland or the end of the trip duration shown on the Policy Schedule.
