Direct payment

Indemnity is paid to the policyholder's bank account. The insurer may arrange direct payment to an approved repair shop; if the preferred repair shop is not in the insurer's approved network, payment is made to the insured's account instead.

Geographic scope

Baltic States / Europe

Coverage territory as specified in the insurance policy; extension to wider territory possible by agreement. New and renewed KASKO policies are not valid in Ukraine, Belarus, or Russia (from 12.04.2022). Standard territory typically includes Latvia, Baltic States, or EEA countries as selected.

Unique selling points

  • Three-tier Autohelp24 roadside assistance add-on (Plus, Base, Mini) provides 24/7 technical help in Latvia and abroad — not included as standard, but purpose-built tiers allow cost-effective customisation.
  • New-value (jaunvērtības) indemnity is available for vehicles up to 2 years old or under 50,000 km, enabling full replacement-cost settlement rather than depreciated market value.
  • Online policy application with a 15% premium discount, with 24/7 claims submission via website or the Gjensidige Baltic Self-Service mobile app.
  • Baggage and personal belongings coverage (up to insured limit, deductible-free) and household pet accident coverage are available as built-in optional extensions to the standard KASKO policy.
  • Part of Gjensidige Forsikring ASA — a Nordic insurance group with 200 years of experience, providing financial stability and consistent claims-handling standards across Latvia and the Baltics.

Key conditions

driver_age_experience_limit

No specific minimum driver age or experience requirement is stated in the KASKO Terms Nr. 4.9 or the IPID. Policy eligibility and premium may be individually assessed based on the insurance offer.

repair_network_requirements

Repairs must be agreed with the insurer before commencement. For vehicles up to 3 years old, the insurer may approve repairs at authorized dealer repair shops. For older vehicles, repairs may be carried out at insurer-approved network workshops. If the policyholder's preferred repair shop is not approved, the indemnity is paid to the policyholder's bank account.

territorial_scope

The coverage territory is specified in the insurance policy. A wider territorial extension may be agreed upon. From 12.04.2022, new and renewed KASKO policies are not valid in Ukraine, Belarus, or Russia. The standard choice is typically Latvia, Baltic States, or EEA countries.

anti_theft_requirements

The policyholder must keep all security systems and anti-theft devices in proper working order. Vehicle registration documents, ignition keys, and security system controls must be stored in a location inaccessible to third parties and must not be left in the vehicle. In the event of key theft or loss, the insurer must be notified immediately, and the policyholder must arrange for replacement of keys, locks, and security system controls at their own expense. Failure to comply may result in denial of the theft claim.

claim_notification_deadline

The policyholder must notify the insurer of an insured event as soon as possible. For theft, the claim must be submitted within 3 days; for other insured events, within 10 days. The vehicle must not be repaired or dismantled until approved by the insurer. Claims can be submitted electronically via the Gjensidige website or the 'Gjensidige Baltic Self-Service' mobile app, or by calling +371 67112222.

deductible_rules

Each indemnity payment is reduced by the applicable deductible amount as specified in the policy. For certain claim types (e.g., claims under third-party unlawful actions / vandalism perils, clauses 3.2.3–3.2.4), the indemnity is reduced by 20%, but not less than EUR 150. The deductible for glazing claims may differ from that for collision or theft claims. The total payout under clauses 3.2.3–3.2.4 shall not exceed EUR 1,500 per policy period regardless of the number of events.
