  • Complimentary travel insurance automatically activated when the Premier card is used to pay for any part of the trip cost — no separate application or premium required.
  • 24/7 emergency medical assistance via IMG (International Medical Group), which arranges direct payment of covered medical expenses to hospitals abroad and coordinates repatriation.
  • Cover extends automatically to the cardholder's whole family (spouse/partner and children under 18 or under 25 in full-time education) even when travelling independently without the cardholder.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In the event of a serious illness or accident which may lead to in-patient hospital treatment or before arrangements are made for repatriation, the insured must contact IMG immediately. If this is not possible because the condition requires immediate emergency treatment, contact must be made as soon as possible. Private medical in-patient treatment and repatriation costs are not covered unless authorised specifically by IMG or by Atlas.

Unauthorized treatment

Private medical in-patient treatment and repatriation costs are not covered unless authorised specifically by IMG or by Atlas. If the insured decides not to be repatriated after the date when IMG considers it safe to do so, further hospitalization costs will not be covered.

Purchase while abroad

Travel insurance is not available for purchase while abroad. Cover is a free benefit automatically available to HSBC Premier cardholders when payment guarantee, full or part payment is made by the Account Holder's Premier Card for flights and/or marine transport services and/or travel accommodation related to a trip. The date of booking must fall within the policy contract period (01.01.2025–31.12.2027).

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases that constitute a pre-existing medical condition (i.e. any disease for which the insured has received or is awaiting treatment, surgery, tests, investigations, or prescribed medication within the 12 months prior to the date of booking or entry date, whichever is later) are excluded from Sections A, B, C and D. Mental and nervous disorders are excluded unless resulting in admission to hospital. Claims arising from pre-existing conditions remain excluded even if resulting in hospitalisation.

Pregnancy

Normal pregnancy and childbirth without any accompanying complications is explicitly excluded from all health-related cover (Important Conditions relating to Health, 1.d.iv). Pregnancy complications are not explicitly excluded and may be covered under Section B (Emergency Medical and Other Expenses, up to €235,000) provided the condition is not a pre-existing medical condition and all other policy conditions are met.

pre_existing_conditions

This exclusion extends to claims arising from the pre-existing conditions of close relatives, close business associates, accompanying persons, and persons with whom the insured has arranged to stay. Claims arising from pre-existing conditions remain excluded even if they result in hospitalisation.

coverage_duration_limit

The standard maximum trip duration is 120 days per trip. If any trip exceeds 120 days (or the extended agreed period under Optional Section P), no cover will apply for any part of that trip, including the first 120 days. The trip duration may be automatically extended by up to 30 days if the return to the country of residence is unavoidably delayed due to an insured event. An optional extension (Section P) is available to increase the maximum to up to 180 days at an additional premium.
