InterRisk Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń Spółka Akcyjna Vienna Insurance Group
InterRisk
InterRisk is a travel insurance for the Poland market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
InterRisk covers costs directly or through the CENTRUM ASSISTANCE center. Abroad, benefits may be paid directly in foreign currency by InterRisk or via CENTRUM ASSISTANCE. In Poland, benefits are paid in PLN at the NBP exchange rate on the date of the event. A 20 EUR integral deductible applies per Klauzula 1 (medical expenses).
Geographic scope
Worldwide (outside Poland and country of citizenship/permanent residence)
Coverage applies worldwide after crossing the border of Poland, the country of which the insured holds citizenship, or the country of permanent/temporary residence. For air travel: border crossing occurs at takeoff from the last Polish airport (outbound) and landing at the first Polish airport (return).
Unique selling points
- Medical expenses coverage up to 120,000 EUR — among the highest available limits on the Polish travel insurance market, suitable for high-cost destinations such as the USA or Canada.
- Mandatory 24/7 CENTRUM ASSISTANCE included in every policy — provides round-the-clock coordination of medical treatment, hospital admissions, transport, and repatriation at no extra cost.
- Flexible modular structure: the base policy (medical + assistance) can be extended with up to five optional riders — rescue costs, accidental injury, baggage, flight delay, and civil liability — tailored to the destination and activities.
- Covers work-related injuries abroad (with additional premium extension) — one of the few Polish travel policies explicitly extending to accidents and illnesses during employment or business travel activities.
- Part of the Vienna Insurance Group — a pan-European insurer with over 190 years of experience, providing financial stability and broad international network support for claims and assistance.
Coverage limits
Medical Expenses (Klauzula nr 1)
Covered
Covers medically necessary and documented costs incurred abroad due to accident or illness: outpatient treatment, hospitalization, prescribed medicines and dressings, emergency dental care (sub-limit 150 EUR), and glasses/prosthetics repair related to an accident. A 20 EUR integral deductible applies. Sum insured is individually chosen between 5,000 and 120,000 EUR.
Emergency Medical Treatment
Covered
Emergency medical treatment abroad is covered under Klauzula nr 1 as part of medical expenses, including outpatient emergency care and hospital emergency treatment following sudden illness or accident during the insurance period. Sub-limit of the overall Klauzula 1 sum insured (5,000–120,000 EUR).
Hospitalization
Covered
Hospital stay costs (defined as stay of at least 24 hours) due to illness or accident abroad are covered under Klauzula nr 1 within the overall medical expenses sum insured (5,000–120,000 EUR). Additional companion accommodation during hospitalization is covered under Klauzula nr 2 (up to 100 EUR/day for up to 7 days).
Outpatient Treatment
Covered
Outpatient medical care abroad (diagnostics and treatment in open healthcare facilities, hospitals, or other medical centers lasting no more than 24 hours) is covered under Klauzula nr 1 within the overall medical expenses sum insured (5,000–120,000 EUR). Care provided at nursing homes, hospices, addiction treatment centers, sanatoriums, or rehabilitation centers is excluded.
Emergency Dental Care
Covered
Dental treatment is covered only when resulting from acute pain conditions requiring immediate medical assistance, capped at 150 EUR for all dental incidents requiring immediate care during the insurance period. Comprehensive dental treatment not resulting from acute pain is excluded.
Medical Transport (Klauzula nr 2)
Covered
Covered under Klauzula nr 2 (1,000–50,000 EUR): transport from accident/illness site to nearest hospital abroad; transfer to another hospital if the current facility cannot provide appropriate care; transport to a Polish medical facility or place of residence in Poland (limited to economy class on cheapest available means unless medical necessity requires otherwise). Also covers companion travel costs (up to 1,000 EUR return) and related accommodation (up to 100 EUR/day, max 7 days).
Medical Evacuation
Covered
Medical evacuation to a Polish medical facility or place of residence in Poland is covered under Klauzula nr 2 (1,000–50,000 EUR sum insured), when required by the insured's health condition and ordered in writing by the treating physician. Limited to economy class on cheapest available transport unless medical necessity requires otherwise, agreed with InterRisk or CENTRUM ASSISTANCE.
Repatriation of Remains
Covered
Transport of the insured's remains to the place of burial in Poland is covered under Klauzula nr 2 (within the 1,000–50,000 EUR sum insured), limited to the cost of transport to Poland, provided it is agreed with InterRisk or CENTRUM ASSISTANCE (unless agreement was objectively impossible). Also covers the cost of a coffin.
Search and Rescue Costs (Klauzula nr 3)
Optional
Optional extension covering necessary and documented costs of search and rescue operations, on-site medical assistance, and transport from the incident site to the nearest required medical facility using specialized mountain or maritime rescue services. Sum insured 1,000–12,500 EUR, individually selected. Reimbursement is conditional on costs not already covered under Klauzula nr 1. Requires additional premium. Excludes heart attack, stroke, chronic disease, and high-risk sports unless separately extended.
COVID-19 Treatment
Excluded
COVID-19 treatment is not covered under the 2020 OWU. The policy explicitly excludes pandemics (as defined by WHO) across all clauses (Klauzula 1–7). COVID-19, classified as a pandemic, falls within this exclusion. Note: a 2021/2023 annex for the PZM Travel partner version added limited COVID-19 transport provisions, but the standard InterRisk OWU (effective 31.03.2020) maintains the pandemic exclusion.
Pre-existing / Chronic Conditions Extension
Optional
Chronic diseases and pre-existing conditions are excluded from the basic policy. Coverage for consequences of chronic disease exacerbations (sudden acute flare-up during travel requiring immediate treatment) can be added to Klauzula nr 1 and nr 2 by paying an additional premium, subject to the condition that the insured has not exceeded 60 years of age on the date of coverage commencement. Heart attack and stroke are similarly excluded from base coverage but can be extended (also age limit: 60 years). Insured must disclose pre-existing conditions during application.
Winter Sports Extension
Optional
Amateur skiing, snowboarding, water skiing, and windsurfing are excluded from the basic policy. Coverage can be extended for these amateur winter/water sports (not competitive, not professional, not during organized club/league events) under Klauzula nr 1, 2, 3, and 4, upon request and payment of an additional premium. High-risk sports (bouldering, extreme skiing, freeride, off-piste, etc.) remain excluded even with this extension and cannot be covered.
High-Risk / Adventure Sports Cover
Excluded
High-risk sports are explicitly excluded from all coverage under the policy (Klauzula 1–4) and cannot be extended. The OWU defines an extensive list of high-risk sports including: bouldering, rock/ice climbing, alpinism, ski-alpinism, trekking, extreme skiing, freestyle, freeride, high-altitude snowboarding, speed snowboarding, ski/snowboard jumps, rafting, canyoning, hydrospeed, white-water kayaking, gliding, parachuting, hang-gliding, paragliding, motorized hang-gliding, ballooning, piloting aircraft/helicopters, zorbing, bungee jumping, scuba diving, parkour, freerun, buggykiting, quads, kitesurfing, offshore sailing (>12 nautical miles), extreme/mountain cycling, speleology, bobsled, luge, motor sports, rally driving, heliskiing, heliboarding, freefall, downhill, BASE jumping, and off-piste skiing/snowboarding.
Pregnancy Complications
Excluded
Pregnancy-related costs are largely excluded. Excluded items include: termination of pregnancy not related to accident or illness, infertility treatment (including IVF), spontaneous and artificial miscarriage (exception: artificial miscarriage when pregnancy poses a threat to life and health). Complications directly arising from a sudden accident or illness during travel may be partially covered under Klauzula nr 1 medical expenses to the extent they are not otherwise excluded.
Personal Liability (Klauzula nr 7)
Optional
Optional extension covering statutory civil liability (tortious liability) of the insured for personal injury or property damage caused to third parties during a foreign trip in connection with private life activities. Coverage extends to close family members permanently residing at the same address. Guarantee sum individually chosen: 5,000–120,000 EUR. A 50 EUR deductible applies to property damage claims. Excluded: professional activities, mandatory insurances, motorized watercraft >10m, firearms/hunting, competitive sports, nuclear energy, transmission of infectious diseases, damage to valuables/cash/art/jewelry, amateur skiing/snowboarding (unless extended).
Legal Assistance
Excluded
Legal assistance as a standalone coverage is not offered under this product. In the context of civil liability (Klauzula nr 7), InterRisk covers justified litigation costs when the insured is the defendant in a damages lawsuit related to the insured event, provided prior written consent from InterRisk is obtained. This is a subsidiary benefit within the civil liability clause, not a standalone legal assistance product.
24/7 Assistance (Klauzula nr 2)
Covered
Mandatory component of every Bon Voyage policy. The CENTRUM ASSISTANCE center provides 24/7 support: organizing and coordinating medical treatment, hospital admissions, transports, repatriation, companion accommodation, and body repatriation. In case of inability to reach CENTRUM ASSISTANCE, the insured must contact InterRisk directly. Coverage sum 1,000–50,000 EUR (Klauzula nr 2), which is the ceiling for all assistance-related costs.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
In the event of a loss, the insured must immediately contact CENTRUM ASSISTANCE (phone number provided in the policy). If unable to reach CENTRUM ASSISTANCE, the insured must immediately notify InterRisk of the loss. In case of inability to contact either, the insured must notify InterRisk within 14 days of returning to Poland (if health permits).
Unauthorized treatment
Medical costs covered by InterRisk under Klauzula nr 2 (assistance) are conditional on prior coordination with CENTRUM ASSISTANCE. InterRisk covers transport and accommodation costs only when return could not be made using previously planned means of transport and accommodation. Treatment organized without CENTRUM ASSISTANCE coordination may not be reimbursed unless coordination was objectively impossible.
Purchase while abroad
The policy must be purchased before the start of foreign travel. Coverage begins at the moment of border crossing (departure from Poland or country of citizenship/permanent residence). InterRisk's liability under a policy concluded before the start of foreign travel commences from border crossing; for air travel this is at takeoff from the last Polish airport.
Chronic conditions
Chronic diseases (defined as conditions with slow development and long-term course, treated continuously or periodically before the insurance event date) are excluded from the basic policy. An extension for consequences of chronic disease acute exacerbations can be purchased for additional premium, applicable to Klauzula nr 1 and nr 2, subject to the insured not having exceeded 60 years of age on the date of coverage commencement.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is largely excluded. Covered exceptions under Klauzula nr 1 include: artificial miscarriage when the pregnancy poses a threat to the life and health of the insured. Excluded: termination of pregnancy not related to accident or illness, infertility treatment (including IVF), contraceptives, spontaneous and artificial miscarriage (except life-threatening cases), varicose veins.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Pre-existing conditions (bodily injuries or diseases diagnosed before the start of insurance coverage) are excluded. Heart attack and stroke are excluded from basic coverage but can be extended for an additional premium, provided the condition is diagnosed for the first time during the insurance period and the insured has not exceeded 60 years of age on the date coverage commenced.
Coverage duration limit
Individual/family policies: minimum 1 day for EU/EFTA travel, minimum 3 days for other countries, maximum 90 days per trip. Group policies: maximum 12 months (unless otherwise agreed). Coverage ceases upon exhaustion of the sum insured for each respective clause (Klauzula 1–7) — when total claims paid equal the sum insured for that clause, coverage for that clause ends.
