Direct payment

When assistance is organised through the Customer Service Centre (COK), Warta pays medical facilities and service providers directly. If the insured pays out of pocket, Warta reimburses documented costs up to the insured sum to the bank account indicated by the insured.

Geographic scope

  • Alcohol clause is built into the standard cover at no extra charge: incidents occurring after alcohol consumption are covered (excluding driving a rented vehicle under the influence).
  • Full 24/7 COK assistance — including cashless direct payment to medical facilities worldwide (public and private) — is included in the base scope without extra premium.
  • Pandemic, natural-disaster, and pet-travel packages are included in the base scope at no additional cost, offering broader standard protection than most competitors.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must notify COK by telephone of any event immediately after its occurrence or after learning of it, and no later than 7 days after the cessation of reasons preventing earlier notification. Acting without prior agreement with COK may result in denial or reduction of benefit, except for transport from the site of accident/illness, transport of remains, search and rescue, the natural-disaster package, and the pet-travel package.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured arranges treatment or assistance without prior coordination with COK (other than the explicitly exempt cases listed in §12 ust. 5), Warta may refuse or reduce reimbursement. If the insured refuses transport organised by COK as medically feasible, further coverage for that event (medical costs and assistance) ceases.

Purchase while abroad

If the insured is already abroad at the time of concluding the contract, Warta’s liability commences at the earliest from the day following conclusion of the contract and payment of the premium (not from the day and hour of conclusion as is possible for persons in Poland). The insured must be in Poland at the time of conclusion to benefit from the ‘same-day’ start option.

Chronic conditions

A chronic disease is defined as a disease that, according to current medical knowledge, involves constant or recurring symptoms or test abnormalities, and which was diagnosed, treated, or showed symptoms within 24 months preceding the date of the insurance contract. Acute sudden exacerbations or complications of chronic diseases are covered under the base medical expenses scope; planned treatment of chronic diseases, continuation of regular chronic medication, and non-emergency chronic disease treatment are excluded.

Pregnancy

Complications of pregnancy are covered under the general medical expenses cover up to the 32nd week of pregnancy. Childbirth and related care occurring after the 32nd week of pregnancy are excluded. Ectopic pregnancy is explicitly covered. Treatment related to termination of pregnancy, artificial insemination, or other fertility treatments is excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Acute sudden exacerbations or complications of pre-existing chronic conditions (recognised, treated or symptomatic within 24 months before policy date) are covered. Planned treatment, non-emergency chronic disease management, continuation of regular medication, and elective procedures are excluded. Conditions with pre-existing medical contraindications to travel or existing indications for surgery at the time of departure are not covered.

Coverage duration limit

The insurance contract may be concluded for a maximum period of 12 months. Open-policy (polisa otwarta) contracts for corporate clients may only be concluded for exactly 12 months. Medical expenses and assistance coverage begins no earlier than after crossing the Polish border (or the border of the insured’s country of permanent residence) and ends upon re-crossing that border, no later than 23:59 on the end date stated in the policy.
