Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must notify the Assistance Company (Europ Assistance) as soon as possible and before receiving medical services or arranging repatriation transport. If Generali/Assistance Company is not notified prior to medical services and no documents justify the delay in notification, Generali will pay medical and transport expenses up to a maximum of 1,500 EUR. The insured has up to 3 months from the event date to submit a reimbursement request if they paid without notifying the Assistance Company.

Unauthorized treatment

Medical services used without the prior consent of Generali through the Assistance Company are compensated by Generali up to a maximum of 1,500 EUR. The insured must follow the procedure indicated by the Assistance Company; Generali will not pay compensation if the insured does not comply with the Assistance Company's procedure, doctor's instructions, or prescribed treatment.

Purchase while abroad

The insurance policy must be concluded on Romanian territory and before the start of foreign travel. Exception: Generali accepts policy issuance for persons temporarily outside Romania only if the insured purchases a travel package for a future trip unrelated to the current trip, the policy is issued on the same day as the purchase of the travel package, and the premium is paid in full at policy issuance. If the insured is abroad at the time of policy issuance, coverage begins after an 8-calendar-day waiting period. No compensation is paid if the policy was issued after the insured left Romania or the premium was paid after leaving Romania (except per Art. 3.2).

Chronic conditions

Chronic medical conditions (known conditions with long evolution or frequent relapses requiring specialized medical care, such as diabetes, chronic hepatitis, cardiac insufficiency, rheumatoid arthritis, etc., including conditions favored by excessive alcohol consumption, toxic substances, narcotics, or smoking) are generally excluded. Emergency life-saving measures and acute pain relief for such conditions are covered up to 1,000 EUR.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy over 26 weeks, childbirth, voluntary termination of pregnancy, and therapeutic abortion are excluded. For pregnancy under 26 weeks, only pathological situations (illness) related to the pregnancy are covered. Medical impossibility to travel due to pregnancy up to 26 weeks qualifies as an insured risk under the optional Trip Cancellation (STORNO) clause if detected during the period from policy issuance to departure.

pre_existing_conditions

Pre-existing conditions (any injury, illness, serious illness or consequences thereof, or any pathological manifestation resulting from an illness or accident that occurred before the policy entry into force date, regardless of whether treatment was administered, for which the insured was diagnosed, received or followed treatment or medical services, was aware of, or presented signs/symptoms noted in medical documents) are excluded. Exception: emergency life-saving measures and acute pain relief during foreign travel are covered up to 1,000 EUR.

The insurance period cannot be less than 3 days or more than 1 year. For policies with an insurance period exceeding 120 days, coverage is limited to a maximum of 120 consecutive days for each trip made during the insurance period (except for work/study trips where coverage is continuous for the entire insured period up to 365/366 days). Failure to provide this proof gives Generali the right to refuse claim payment.
