24/7 emergency assistance
unlimited
24/7 emergency medical assistance is provided by Europ Assistance (a Generali Group company) for all policy variants. The insured must contact Europ Assistance immediately upon the occurrence of an insured event. Contact Romania: +40.313.20.20.20 or operation@europ-assistance.ro. Online claims notification: https://eoperation.europ-assistance.hu/travel-693. Failure to notify the assistance company before medical services are rendered limits reimbursement to a maximum of 1,500 EUR.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must contact the assistance company (Europ Assistance) as a matter of urgency immediately after the occurrence of the insured event, within 48 hours (except in cases of force majeure). If the insured is unable to contact the assistance company, a third party (relative, friend, medical staff) may do so on their behalf. If medical services are rendered without prior notification of the assistance company and no documents justify the delay, Generali will reimburse medical and transport costs up to a maximum of 1,500 EUR.
Unauthorized treatment
If the insured uses medical services without prior consent of Generali through the assistance company, reimbursement is limited to a maximum of 1,500 EUR. The insured must also comply exactly with the procedure indicated by the assistance company and follow the medical instructions received; failure to do so may result in Generali refusing to pay the claim.
Purchase while abroad
The insurance must be concluded on Romanian territory and before the start of travel abroad. Exceptionally, Generali accepts policy issuance for persons temporarily abroad only if: (1) the insured purchases a travel package abroad for a future trip unrelated to the current trip; (2) the policy is issued on the same day the travel package is purchased; and (3) the premium is paid in full on the date of issuance. In this case, Generali's liability begins after an 8-calendar-day waiting period from the day following policy issuance and premium payment. The insured must also prove they left Romania no more than 4 weeks (28 consecutive days) before concluding the policy. No compensation is paid if the policy was issued after the insured left Romanian territory.
Chronic conditions
Chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, arterial hypertension, chronic hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiac insufficiency) and their consequences are excluded from coverage. Exception: if during travel abroad emergency medical care involving life-saving measures or acute pain relief is required, these are covered up to a maximum of 1,000 EUR. Persons over 70 years of age are subject to a maximum 30-day consecutive insured period per trip (for Turist Economic, Turist and Turist Plus Premium variants).
Pregnancy
Pregnancy over 26 weeks, childbirth, and voluntary termination of pregnancy are excluded. Pathological situations arising from pregnancy under 26 weeks are covered within the base emergency medical expenses. For trip cancellation (Storno), medical inability to travel due to pregnancy-related pathological situations up to 26 weeks is an insured risk, subject to the condition that the pregnancy was discovered during the period from policy issuance until the departure date.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Pre-existing medical conditions (any injury, disease, serious illness or their consequences resulting from a disease or accident prior to the start of the insurance contract, regardless of whether treatment was administered, for which the insured has been diagnosed, received treatment, was aware of, or had objective signs/symptoms recorded in medical documents) are generally excluded. Limited exception: emergency life-saving measures or acute pain relief during travel abroad are covered up to 1,000 EUR.
Coverage duration limit
The insured period cannot be less than 3 days or more than 1 year. For policies with an insurance period exceeding 120 days, coverage is limited to a maximum of 120 consecutive days per trip made during the insurance period (except where otherwise specified in the Particular Conditions or Policy). Coverage may be extended for a maximum of 30 days after the start of travel abroad, provided: the insured requests the extension in writing; no insured events/claims have occurred until the request; Generali is notified at least 72 hours before policy expiry and provides written consent; and the additional premium is paid before policy expiry. Coverage ceases when the insured re-enters Romanian territory.
