Hospitalization

Covered

Hospitalization costs are covered within the overall emergency medical assistance sum insured. The specific hospitalization sublimit is not separately stated in the IPID; it is subsumed within the total medical sum per tier. For domestic (Romania) travel under Section II (Personal Accidents), a fixed daily allowance of 100 RON/day applies for a maximum of 5 continuous hospitalization days.

Source

Outpatient (ambulatory) treatment

Covered

Outpatient services including consultations, diagnostics, lab tests and prescribed treatments covered within the overall emergency medical assistance sum insured. For domestic travel (Romania) under Section II, outpatient medical services are covered up to a sublimit of 1,000 RON.

Emergency dental treatment

Covered

Dental treatment covered as part of the emergency medical assistance section, for acute dental pain that cannot be postponed or for dental injuries resulting from an accident (including one dental X-ray). Aesthetic, orthodontic and routine dental treatments are excluded. The dental sublimit varies by tier (100 EUR for lower tiers, 200 EUR for higher tiers per the BCR-linked card T&C; the IPID confirms coverage within the medical section without specifying a separate sublimit for the retail Safe Travel product).

Search and rescue

The policy covers emergency medical assistance, repatriation and transport to the nearest medical unit, but does not specifically reference independent search and rescue operations.

COVID-19 treatment

Conditional

COVID-19 is not explicitly listed as an excluded risk. As an acute illness manifesting for the first time during the trip, it would fall within the general emergency medical assistance coverage. However, if an epidemic was declared in the destination country prior to the insured's arrival, it is excluded. Coverage is therefore conditional on the epidemic not being declared before arrival.

Pre-existing conditions (emergency life-saving)

€1,000

Emergency medical assistance required due to pre-existing conditions is covered only when necessary to save the insured's life or to relieve acute pain, up to a sublimit of 1,000 EUR for trips outside Romania (telemedicine consultations for domestic trips in Romania). All other treatment for pre-existing or chronic conditions is excluded.

Failure to justify the impossibility of contacting the assistance company may result in compensation being limited to 5% of the insured amount for the medical section, but not more than 2,500 EUR.

Unauthorized treatment

Medical expenses incurred for services not linked to an emergency situation, services provided outside the insured territory, or treatment that could be postponed until return to Romania are not reimbursed. Repatriation expenses undertaken without prior approval from OMNIASIG are also excluded.

The policy must be issued before departure. Coverage begins only after full payment of the premium. The policy cannot be purchased or activated after the trip has already started.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases and pre-existing medical conditions are excluded, except for emergency medical care necessary to save the insured's life or relieve acute pain, covered up to a sublimit of 1,000 EUR for trips outside Romania. All other treatment related to known chronic or pre-existing conditions is not covered.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy, childbirth (including voluntary termination) and normal pregnancy without bodily injury or illness are excluded. Acute complications of pregnancy are covered only in the first 30 weeks, and only for medical procedures strictly necessary to save the life of the mother and/or child.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing medical conditions (any condition known to the insured before policy conclusion, for which treatment or prescriptions were received, or symptoms were documented) are excluded, except for emergency life-saving care or acute pain relief up to 1,000 EUR sublimit for trips outside Romania.

Coverage duration limit

Each covered trip may last a maximum of 90 consecutive days. The trip coverage period is automatically extended in case the insured's return to Romania is inevitably delayed by an insured event. Domestic trips in Romania are covered only under Section II (Personal Accidents) and only if there is a confirmed accommodation reservation for at least one night at an authorized tourist accommodation facility.
