Territorial scope | Coverage is valid in the Republic of Slovenia and in all member states of the Green Card system (most European and some Mediterranean countries). For foreign-registered vehicles with border MTPL insurance, coverage applies only in Slovenia, the EEA and Switzerland; a Green Card cannot be issued for such policies. In all other Green Card signatory states the insurer is liable up to the minimum statutory limits of the Republic of Slovenia. | Coverage is valid in the Republic of Slovenia and in all countries that are signatories to the Agreement between national insurance bureaux of EEA Member States and other associated members (Green Card system) as well as other countries. In Green Card countries the insurer assumes liability to the higher of the locally prescribed minimum sums or the contractual sums. In all other countries liability is limited to the minimum sums prescribed in Slovenia. For border insurance on foreign-registered vehicles, coverage is limited to EEA countries and Switzerland. | The insurance covers the Republic of Slovenia and all countries signatory to the Agreement between national insurance bureaux of EEA member states and associated members (Green Card countries), as well as other countries as stated in the policy. In Green Card countries the insurer assumes liability up to the higher of the contractual or the visited country's minimum prescribed sum. In all other countries, the insurer assumes liability up to the minimum sums prescribed in Slovenia. |
Green card rules | The Green Card (international motor insurance certificate) proves MTPL validity in signatory states of the London Agreement. It can be included free of charge in the standard AO policy and is recommended when driving abroad. In some non-EU countries it is obligatory for entry (e.g. Albania, Morocco, Turkey). For foreign-registered vehicles covered under a border insurance policy, the Green Card cannot be issued. | An International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card) can be issued for travel abroad and serves as official proof of MTPL coverage in all Green Card system countries. It contains all emergency contact details needed to file claims. For vehicles with foreign registration insured under a border insurance policy, the Green Card cannot be issued. The insurer assumes liability in visited Green Card countries up to the higher of the locally required minimum sums or the policy sums. | A Green Card (Zelena karta) is issued as proof of valid third-party motor insurance for travel abroad. The insurer assumes obligations toward injured parties in Green Card countries up to the minimum legally prescribed sums of the visited country if those are higher than the contractual sums, or up to the contractual sums if those are higher. For border insurance of foreign-registered vehicles, the policy is valid only in Slovenia and EEA/Switzerland; no Green Card can be issued for such policies. |
Driver restrictions | Coverage extends to the vehicle owner and all persons who, with the owner's consent, are associated with the vehicle (users, drivers, escorts, passengers). Coverage is void if the driver operated the vehicle without the owner's knowledge or consent (theft), under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, without a valid driving licence of the required category, or with a suspended/revoked licence. Driving in connection with criminal activities is also excluded. | Coverage may be denied or the insurer may exercise recourse against the policyholder and co-insured persons if the driver: (1) used the vehicle for an unauthorised purpose; (2) lacked a valid driving licence for the vehicle category; (3) had a licence that was revoked or suspended; (4) lacked a required permit, certificate or licence; (5) was under the influence of alcohol (>0.50 g/kg blood or >0.24 mg/l exhaled air), prohibited drugs, psychoactive medicines or other psychoactive substances; (6) caused damage intentionally; (7) drove a vehicle that was not in roadworthy condition (no valid technical inspection); or (8) left the accident scene without providing personal and insurance details. Drivers with fewer than 3 years of experience or those driving with an accompanying driver constitute an increased risk requiring an additional premium. | Coverage is voided if the driver used the vehicle for a purpose other than specified in the policy; did not hold a valid driving licence for the vehicle category; had a suspended or revoked licence; drove under the influence of alcohol (blood alcohol above 0.50 g/kg or 0.24 mg/l in breath) or narcotics/psychoactive substances; intentionally caused the damage; the vehicle was not technically roadworthy; or the driver fled the scene without leaving personal and insurance details. Exceptions apply where the insured proves the damage is not causally linked to the above circumstances, or for shared liability. |
Claim notification deadline | The insured must notify the insurer of a loss event at the latest within 3 days of becoming aware of it. For roadside assistance claims, the assistance centre must be called immediately and before any self-help action (except in emergencies). Late notification may result in loss of claim entitlement. For medical emergency assistance abroad, the assistance centre must be notified by phone or in writing within 5 days of the incident. | The policyholder must notify the insurer of an insured event no later than 3 days after becoming aware of it. If criminal investigations, charges or administrative proceedings are initiated against the policyholder, this must be reported immediately even if the event was already reported. All claims handling must be entrusted to the insurer; the policyholder must not independently admit or reject claims. Breach of these obligations reduces the insurer's liability by the amount of any resulting damage. | The insured must notify the insurer of the loss event within 3 days of becoming aware of it. If criminal or administrative proceedings are initiated, or a damage claim or lawsuit is filed against the insured, the insurer must be informed immediately. The insured must submit all documents containing such claims and cede conduct of litigation to the insurer. |
Bonus malus rules | Premium is determined using a bonus-malus system. Each claim-free year earns a 5% premium reduction (bonus), up to a maximum discount of 55%. Each reported claim results in a premium increase (malus) on renewal. A 30-day grace period (respiro rok) applies to annual policies: coverage automatically extends 30 days beyond expiry unless the policyholder submits written rejection at least 3 days before expiration. Family members with multiple vehicles at Generali may benefit from the highest bonus achieved by any family member. An optional first-claim buyback (odkup prve škode) add-on is available to protect the bonus after the first claim. | The bonus-malus system uses 20 premium classes. New policies are placed in class 14 (100% of base premium). Each claim-free year moves the vehicle one class lower (5% discount); each reported claim moves it three classes higher (malus), up to a maximum of 4 claims counted per year. Maximum discount: 55% at class 1 (classes 1–3 all at 45%). Maximum surcharge: 200% at class 20. Policyholders at class 14 or lower may purchase protection against the first claim for an additional premium (buy-back). The bonus/malus is not transferable to a new owner on vehicle sale, except upon transfer to a spouse (donor loses the bonus). When switching insurers, the insured must provide a certificate of prior insurance history; otherwise, class 14 applies. | New policies start at premium class 14 (100% of base premium). Each claim-free year earns one class lower (bonus); each reported claim in the previous year raises the class by three (malus), up to four claims considered. The maximum bonus for AO is class 1–4 (45% of base premium). The 'first loss discount' (odkup prve škode) can be purchased to neutralise the effect of one claim. Bonus is transferable to a same-type vehicle within 5 years and to a spouse. When switching insurers, the new insurer classifies the policyholder based on a written confirmation from the previous insurer or from the motor insurance register. |
