Direct payment

The insurer compensates the injured third party directly on behalf of the policyholder; the policyholder does not pay covered claims out of pocket.

Geographic scope

Slovenia, EEA member states, Switzerland and other Green Card system countries

Coverage applies in the Republic of Slovenia and in states party to the Agreement between national insurance bureaus of EEA member states and other associated members, or states party to the General Rules (Green Card), and in the territory of other states; for foreign-registered vehicles with border insurance, cover is limited to Slovenia, EEA states and Switzerland only.

Unique selling points

  • Family discount lets all vehicles in a household benefit from the best bonus class achieved by any family member.
  • Green Card international insurance certificate is included free of charge with every MTPL policy.
  • First-claim buyback (odkup prve škode) lets policyholders keep their bonus class even after their first reported claim.
  • Policy can be quoted and concluded fully online in a few steps via the registration number or chassis number, with stackable discounts (up to 9% for a driving-habits questionnaire, 5% for Diners Club card payment, 5% for single lump-sum payment).

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Cover applies in Slovenia and countries party to the Green Card agreement (EEA and associated states); in other Green Card countries the insurer's liability is capped at the higher of the policy sum or the visited country's statutory minimum; in all other countries liability is capped at the Slovenian statutory minimum. Vehicles with foreign registration and border insurance are covered only in Slovenia, the EEA and Switzerland, and no Green Card is issued for them.

Green card rules

The Green Card is issued free of charge with every AO policy as proof of cover in Green Card system countries; it is not issued for border-insurance policies on foreign-registered vehicles.

Driver restrictions

Increased-risk surcharges apply to drivers with less than 3 years of driving experience or accompanied-driving learners; coverage rights are lost if the driver lacked a valid licence for the vehicle category, had the licence revoked/suspended, drove under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, caused the damage intentionally, used the vehicle contrary to the policy purpose, or left the accident scene without providing details.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify the insurer of the insured event no later than three days from the day they learned of it.

Bonus-malus rules

Premium is set via 20 premium classes (50%-200% of the base premium); a new policy starts at class 14, each claim-free year moves one class toward bonus (up to 55% discount for experienced claim-free drivers via Generali's class-3 entry benefit), while a claim in the previous period moves the policy three classes toward malus (up to 4 claims counted per period); a family bonus lets all household vehicles use the best family member's bonus.
