Territorial scope
Primary coverage in Cyprus, including loss or damage to the Motor Vehicle in the occupied territories of Cyprus. Third-party liability cover required by law applies indefinitely in any EU member state or Multilateral Guarantee Agreement signatory state. All other covers apply for up to 30 days in EU/MGA states. Road and accident assistance applies only in government-controlled areas of Cyprus and the Sovereign Base Areas. The policy covers third party liability in Cyprus (excluding occupied areas) and in all countries that have signed the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement. Optional benefits such as Loss of Use and Driving Other Cars are restricted to the Republic of Cyprus and British Sovereign Base Areas only.Coverage applies in Cyprus only, in the areas effectively controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. The extension for legal liability while driving other vehicles also applies in Cyprus only. Excluded from coverage are areas not under effective control of the Republic of Cyprus.Third Party Liability: Cyprus (excluding areas of the Republic of Cyprus where the Government does not exercise effective control) and States signatory to Part III of the Unified Agreement. The cover outside Cyprus equals the minimum limits required by the legislation of the State where the incident occurs. If the Policy limit exceeds the local minimum, the higher amount applies.
Green card rules
The policy provides full third-party liability cover as required by law in all EU member states and states signatory to the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement, valid indefinitely. The digital Green Card has been valid in Cyprus since January 2025. Other covers beyond TPL apply for up to 30 days in those territories. The insured vehicle is covered for third party liability in any country that has signed the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement, except Russia and Belarus which have been suspended from the Green Card system since March 2022. As of January 2025, Cyprus law (Law 167(I)/2023) formally recognises digital Green Cards as legally equivalent to paper ones. The standard policy covers Cyprus only (areas effectively controlled by the Republic of Cyprus). For travel to other countries participating in the Green Card system — including EU/EEA member states, Andorra, Serbia, and Switzerland — a Green Card (International Motor Insurance Certificate) must be requested from the insurer. Since January 2025, a digital Green Card displayed on a phone screen is legally valid. Policyholders should contact CNP Asfalistiki to arrange coverage before travelling abroad. The Policy provides cover in States signatory to Part III of the Unified Agreement (Green Card countries) at the minimum limits required by the respective national legislation. The Cyprus International Insurance Bureau and corresponding foreign bureaux agreements are acknowledged. The Insured must return the insurance certificate within 48 hours of any cancellation taking effect.
Driver restrictions
All drivers must hold a valid driving licence for any Motor Vehicle being driven and must follow the conditions of that licence. Any loss or damage whilst the Motor Vehicle is driven by a person not specified as an authorised driver on the policy schedule is excluded. An additional excess applies for young and inexperienced drivers. Driving another car cover is limited to Cyprus only and applies provided that the other car does not belong to or is hired by the policyholder, their spouse, employer or partner. The base Third Party policy covers any authorised driver. The Third Party Plus tier restricts cover to named drivers aged 24–70 with over 2 years of Cypriot or UK regular driving licence experience. All authorised drivers must hold a valid driving licence.Coverage extends to the insured and all authorized drivers of the insured vehicle. The extension for driving other vehicles excludes motorcycles, buses, lorries, or special type vehicles, and does not apply to vehicles belonging to the insured's employer or partner, or rented vehicles. Any passenger unlawfully carried is excluded from coverage.Coverage is void if the vehicle is driven by an Unauthorised Driver or used otherwise than in accordance with the Limitations as to Use. Additional Clause 10923 (if operative) excludes drivers under 25 or over 70 years of age, holders of a learner's licence, or drivers who have not held a full licence for at least two years — unless declared and approved by the Company. Cover for driving another vehicle (Clause 10914) terminates when the Insured reaches 75 years of age and is available only for private vehicles belonging to private individuals.
Claim notification deadline
The policyholder must notify AIG or their intermediary as soon as reasonably possible in the event of loss or damage to the Motor Vehicle. No specific number of days deadline is stated in the IPID beyond this reasonableness standard.Policyholders should report incidents that may give rise to a claim immediately. General industry practice in Cyprus requires notification within three working days of an accident. Atlantic's 24-hour helpline (77772424) is available for immediate accident reporting.Specific claim notification deadlines are not published on the official product page. Policyholders should notify CNP Asfalistiki promptly following any incident. The general limitation period for MTPL claims in Cyprus is 3 years from the date of the accident, extendable by a judge if considered just and equitable. In the event of any incident that may give rise to a claim, the Insured must contact the Company immediately from the scene of the accident at the telephone number communicated via email. All letters, claims, writs, summonses and pleadings must be forwarded to the Company immediately upon receipt. In cases of accident, theft or criminal act, the Police must also be notified immediately. No claim is payable unless these notification conditions are met. In the event of prosecution or inquest, the Company must be informed immediately.
Bonus malus rules
Cyprus has legislated a bonus-malus framework for motor insurance, but there is no centralized statutory scale; each insurer applies its own individual merit-rating system. AIG Cyprus applies experience-based pricing adjustments. An optional no-claim bonus protection add-on is available, covering up to 2 claims within a period of 3 years without loss of the accumulated no-claim discount. An additional excess applies for young and inexperienced drivers. No further bonus-malus scale details are published in the IPID.Cyprus does not operate a centralised statutory bonus-malus system. Each insurer applies individual merit-rating at its own discretion. Atlantic Insurance applies a no-claims discount ladder where claim-free years earn premium reductions, with discounts that can reach up to 60% after six or more claim-free years, and claims typically result in a step-back of two to three levels. Atlantic accepts no-claims bonus proof from the UK and EU. An optional No Claim Bonus Protection add-on is available to prevent loss of NCB entitlement, subject to restrictions on the number and amount of claims allowed over specific insurance periods.Cyprus requires insurers to apply a merit-rating (bonus-malus) system, but there is no centralised statutory scale mandating specific discount percentages or step-back rules. Each insurer, including CNP Asfalistiki, applies its own bonus-malus ladder at its discretion. Claim-free years typically earn premium discounts, while claims result in a step-back on the insurer's internal scale. Recognition of no-claims records earned in other EU countries is at the insurer's discretion.Cyprus does not operate a centralised statutory bonus-malus system for MTPL. Individual insurers apply their own merit-rating (No Claims Discount / loading) schemes at their discretion. For the Third Party Plus WEB online product, no NCD scale is applied at the online purchase stage; NCD adjustments are handled at the branch/broker level for eligible policies. Comprehensive cover products have published NCD tables, but third-party online plans use a fixed-rate structure for web sales.
