Regulatory updates
In August 2026 the FMA published a notice regarding a planned full portfolio transfer (Bestandübertragung) of the entire insurance book of GARANTA Versicherungs-AG Österreich to DONAU Versicherung AG Vienna Insurance Group, following VIG's acquisition of GARANTA's German parent NÜRNBERGER Versicherung (completed May 2026); policyholders in Austria have a statutory right of termination under the VAG. DONAU announced in July 2026 that it will take over the GARANTA brand and its roughly 930 car-dealership distribution partners in Austria, with closing expected in summer 2026. Earlier, in March 2025, GARANTA had already ended new motor and accident insurance business sold through brokers and agents, focusing exclusively on its core dealership sales channel.
