Direct payment

AXA pays repair costs directly to its network of approved (conventioned) garages, deducting any recoverable VAT and the applicable deductible from the invoice.

Geographic scope

Belgium

Coverage applies in Belgium and, for the vehicle-protection guarantee, in Andorra, Germany, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus (government-controlled area only), Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, United Kingdom, San Marino, Serbia (government-controlled area only), Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Tunisia, Turkey and Vatican City.

Unique selling points

  • Unique 'BOB' guarantee pays up to EUR 100,000 for the designated sober driver's injuries and up to EUR 25,000 for damage they cause to your car, at no extra premium.
  • EURO+ automatically tops up injury compensation to the (often higher) Belgian standard when an at-fault accident happens elsewhere in Western Europe.
  • Pack XL / Pack XL Pro extend glass cover to mirrors and lights with no deductible, add key-loss and pet vet-fee cover, and pay a 5-10% top-up on indirect losses after a claim.
  • 24/7 multilingual Info Line plus a nationwide network of approved garages offering direct-billed repairs and an extended 15-day replacement car when you use them.
  • Choice of peril-scope formulas (from full Omnium down to weather-only 'Nature Protect') lets owners of older vehicles keep affordable cover instead of dropping casco altogether.

Coverage limits

Material Damage (Accident)

Covered

Covers damage to the insured vehicle caused by an accident, by loading/unloading/transport of the vehicle, or by vandalism/malicious acts, including damage from poor-quality or wrong fuel or filling the diesel tank with AdBlue when the tanks are adjacent. Excludes tyre-only damage, wear, construction/material defects, poor maintenance, overload, and damage caused by transported goods/animals. Indemnity = expert-assessed repair cost + non-recoverable VAT + applicable extensions, minus any proportional (under-declaration) reduction and the deductible, capped at the declared insured value. Available on all tiers (base Protection du véhicule, Omnium XL, Omnium XL Pro); Omnium XL Pro additionally pays 10% (max EUR 3,500) on top of the repair indemnity for indirect losses, a top-up not available on the base tier or on Omnium XL for repairs (only for total loss).

Source

Total Loss

Covered

Vehicle is total loss when repair is technically impossible, or when (VAT-incl.) repair cost exceeds real value + registration tax - wreck value (economic total loss), or on theft not recovered within 30 days. Indemnity = vehicle value at claim date (per the chosen depreciation scale) + VAT (if applicable) + coverage extensions + registration tax, minus proportional rule and deductible, capped at the insured value. On top of this, the base tier (Protection du véhicule) pays no indirect-loss top-up, Omnium XL pays +5% (max EUR 2,500), and Omnium XL Pro pays +10% (max EUR 3,500) of the indemnity for indirect losses (admin costs, calls, travel, child seat, etc.).

Source

Partial Loss (Repair)

Covered

When the vehicle is declared repairable, AXA pays the expert-assessed repair amount plus non-recoverable VAT and applicable extensions, minus the proportional rule and deductible, never exceeding the insured value. Omnium XL Pro additionally adds 10% (max EUR 3,500) for indirect losses on repairs (not paid for glass-breakage-only claims); this indirect-loss top-up on repairs does not exist on the base tier or on Omnium XL.

Theft

Covered

Covers disappearance of the insured vehicle following theft, damage from theft or attempted theft, and lock/anti-theft-code replacement costs after key/remote theft or loss. Excluded if the thief/accomplice lives in the policyholder's household, is an employee/agent of an insured person, if the insured failed to act as a reasonably careful person after losing keys, or if the vehicle was unattended without required precautions (locked doors/boot, closed windows/roof, keys not left in/on the vehicle, required anti-theft device not fitted or not activated) - unless the vehicle was broken into inside a locked individual garage. Identical wording across all three tiers.

Source

Glass Breakage

€2,000

All tiers cover breakage/cracking of the windscreen, side and rear windows, and the transparent/translucent part of the roof, provided the damaged part is repaired or replaced (no cover on total loss). Only the Omnium XL and Omnium XL Pro tiers (via the Pack XL / Pack XL Pro extension) also cover the glass part of mirrors and lights, capped at EUR 2,000 excl. VAT, and can waive part of the deductible when repaired via an approved glass-repair network partner; this mirror/light and deductible-waiver benefit is not available on the base Protection du véhicule tier.

Forces of Nature

Covered

Covers damage caused by flooding, hail, storm, falling rocks, landslide, snow/ice pressure, avalanche or any other large-scale natural catastrophe. A 'storm' is defined as gusts reaching at least 80 km/h (per the nearest Royal Meteorological Institute station) or that damage other, at-least-equally-solid goods within a 10 km radius. Identical, unlimited-peril wording across all three tiers; per the IPID this is the only peril present even in the most stripped-down 'Nature Protect' formula.

Vandalism / Malicious Acts

Covered

Vandalism and malicious acts are explicitly covered as part of the Material Damage (Accident) guarantee in every tier, alongside accident, loading/transport damage and fuel mix-up/AdBlue errors.

Roadside Assistance

€500

Full roadside assistance ('Wegenhulp') is a separate, optional guarantee, not automatically bundled with the casco (Protection du véhicule) product - it applies only if stated in the special conditions. It covers towing/breakdown assistance (capped at EUR 250 if not organised by AXA, or EUR 500 if towed by a police-appointed tow operator), hotel costs (EUR 125/night, max EUR 1,250), phone/data costs abroad (max EUR 100) and vehicle storage (max EUR 125 for up to 10 days), plus fuel/key/flat-tyre assistance. Separately, a basic '1st aid' roadside service (towing, return trip) is already included free of charge with the compulsory liability (BA) policy regardless of whether casco/Wegenhulp is purchased.

Replacement Vehicle

Optional

Provision of a temporary replacement vehicle (category B, or a 10m3 light van with GPS for light trucks) is a separate optional guarantee (compulsory add-on for motorcycles, or bundled with the casco/roadside guarantees). In Belgium it is provided for up to 7 consecutive days after an accident/fire/breakdown/attempted theft, extended to 15 days if repaired at an AXA-approved network garage, and up to 30 days on theft; abroad it is provided for up to 7 days. Provision depends on the rental company's own conditions (minimum age, driving licence, deposit, mileage limits).

Source

Driver Accident Protection

Optional

Bodily injury cover for the driver ('Bescherming van personen' / driver 'Veiligheid van de bestuurder') is not part of the casco (Protection du véhicule) guarantee itself; it is a separate optional guarantee offered in a flat-rate or indemnity-based formula, not detailed in the casco policy wordings reviewed. Distinct from this, the compulsory liability policy's 'BOB' extension separately covers bodily injury of a designated sober driver ('BOB') up to EUR 100,000 and material damage to the insured vehicle they caused up to EUR 25,000 excl. VAT (EUR 500 deductible) when they are at fault in an accident - this is a liability-side benefit, not a casco own-driver accident cover.

Source

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

No fixed minimum-age or driving-experience threshold is stated in the casco (Protection du véhicule) terms themselves. Where a replacement vehicle is provided, its use is subject to the age, licence and deposit conditions set independently by the car-rental company supplying it.

Repair network requirements

AXA settles repair invoices directly with its approved ('conventioned') garage network, after deducting recoverable VAT and the applicable deductible. Choosing a network garage extends the replacement-vehicle period from 7 to 15 days after a covered claim, and repairing broken mirror/light glass at an approved glass-repair partner (Pack XL/XL Pro) can waive part of the deductible. Use of the network is not compulsory for the base tier's ordinary repair claims, but is required to unlock these specific extra benefits.

Territorial scope

The vehicle-protection guarantee applies in Belgium plus roughly 40 listed countries (most of the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, and the government-controlled areas of Cyprus and Serbia only), identically across the base, Omnium XL and Omnium XL Pro tiers.

Anti-theft requirements

Theft cover requires the AXA-required anti-theft system to be fitted and correctly activated, doors/boot locked, windows/roof/bonnet closed, and keys/remote not left in or on the unattended vehicle; failing this, AXA does not intervene unless the vehicle was broken into while inside a locked individual garage.

Claim notification deadline

Claims must generally be reported within 8 days of the event, with full details of circumstances, cause, extent of damage and any witnesses/injured parties. Theft, attempted theft, key/remote theft and vandalism must be reported within 24 hours, and a police report must be filed immediately (and again in Belgium on return, if the theft occurred abroad).

Deductible rules

The deductible amount per guarantee is fixed in the policy's special conditions and is subtracted from the indemnity; no deductible applies to fire-extinguishing costs. If the declared insured/catalogue value is understated, a proportional (under-insurance) reduction is applied to the indemnity. On Omnium XL and Omnium XL Pro (Pack XL/XL Pro), part of the deductible can be waived when mirror/light glass is repaired via an approved network partner.
