Territorial scope | Coverage applies in all countries listed on the vehicle insurance certificate (green card) for BA liability, Omnium, legal defence, and the vehicle assistance component of Top Bijstand. Personal assistance under Top Bijstand, BA Max, and BA Max XL applies worldwide. For accidents outside Belgian territory, the coverage provided is that of the mandatory motor liability legislation of the state where the accident occurred, but cannot be less than the broader Belgian coverage. | The mandatory RC/MTPL coverage applies in all countries listed on the insurance certificate (green card): Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus (government-controlled areas), Vatican City, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, United Kingdom, San Marino, Serbia (government-controlled areas), Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Tunisia, Turkey. The EURO+ guarantee applies in Western Europe (Germany, Andorra, Austria, Vatican City, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland). Roadside assistance (Première Assistance) applies in Belgium and within 30 km beyond Belgian borders. Replacement vehicle (Véhicule de remplacement) is provided in Belgium or within 30 km beyond Belgian borders. | The MTPL policy is valid in all countries required by Belgian law (all EU/EEA Green Card countries), plus Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Morocco, Serbia, Tunisia, and Turkey. The basic Baloise Assistance (included free) covers Belgium and up to 30 km beyond the Belgian border and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The extended Baloise Assistance (paid add-on) covers the full list of countries defined in its General Conditions, and for personal assistance (illness, injury, death) covers all countries worldwide. | The RC guarantee, Legal Protection and Driver insurance are valid in all countries named on the international motor insurance certificate (green card) and not expressly crossed out. The optional vehicle assistance is valid in Belgium (including a 30 km radius beyond Belgian borders) and abroad in countries listed on the green card (excluding high-risk territories: Iran, Belarus, Crimea, Russian Federation, Ukrainian regions annexed by Russia, and countries subject to travel bans or active civil/foreign war). The Omnium vehicle insurance is valid worldwide. |
Green card rules | The insurance certificate (formerly 'green card') lists all countries where the BA Auto coverage is valid. This includes all EU/EEA member states and other multilateral agreement countries. For countries listed on the green card, the Belgian insurer covers liability at least at the level required by that country's mandatory motor insurance legislation. Free immediate roadside assistance applies within 30 km of the Belgian border; beyond that, assistance to the nearest garage is provided in all green card countries. | The green card (certificat d'assurance / verzekeringsattest) is issued at contract inception and at each renewal as proof of the mandatory RC/MTPL coverage. It is not valid if the contract is cancelled, terminated or suspended. Coverage applies only in the countries listed on the certificate. The EURO+ guarantee provides top-up indemnification for bodily injury suffered in Western Europe to ensure Belgian-law-equivalent compensation. A bail bond up to EUR 62,000 is advanced by AXA for the designated vehicle and all insured persons when required by a foreign authority to lift seizure of the vehicle or release the insured on bail after a claim in a listed country (other than Belgium). | A Green Card (international insurance certificate) is issued with the Mobility Safe 1 MTPL policy and must be carried when travelling abroad. It provides proof of valid MTPL coverage in all signatory countries of the Green Card system. The policy extends coverage beyond the standard Green Card countries to also include Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. | The insurer issues an international motor insurance certificate (green card) upon conclusion of the contract. Coverage for foreign accidents is governed by the mandatory insurance legislation of the country where the accident occurred, but cannot be less than the broader coverage under Belgian law. For stays in other EEA member states, no modification of risk applies. The contract terminates automatically if the vehicle is registered in a country other than Belgium. A bail bond up to 62,000 EUR (vehicle + all insureds) is available when foreign authorities require a deposit. |
Driver restrictions | The policyholder must declare the identity of the main driver and any regular driver under 23 years of age at contract inception. Any change in the main driver or the addition of a regular driver under 23 must be reported during the contract. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is an exclusion that gives the insurer a right of recourse. Driving without a valid licence is excluded and gives rise to recourse. The insurer commits that the age of the driver will never, by itself, be the reason for a remediation measure. | The policy covers the designated vehicle and all persons authorised to drive it. The contract must list the principal driver (and any regular occasional drivers). Key restrictions include: (a) AXA has a right of recourse against the policyholder if the vehicle is driven by a person under the legal minimum driving age in Belgium; (b) recourse if driven without a valid driving licence; (c) recourse if driven during an active Belgian driving ban; (d) recourse for driving under alcohol intoxication >0.8g/l blood or under the influence of drugs/narcotics. No right of recourse for driving infringements abroad that comply with local law. The Joker (no premium increase after first two at-fault claims) is available and ceases permanently after an accident involving aggravating circumstances such as drunk driving, intentional misrepresentation, fraudulent claim, deliberate damage, driving without or during suspension of licence, hit-and-run, or non-payment of premium. | Any person whose liability is covered by the MTPL policy is an insured. The policyholder, co-habitants, and the owner/usual keeper of the designated vehicle are generally excluded from the right to compensation as third parties under MTPL. Drivers under the influence of alcohol (blood alcohol level above 1.2 g/l under Baloise Assistance exclusions), drugs, or without a valid driving licence are excluded from coverage. The driver accident insurance (Bestuurder Select/Safe) covers the insured driver and authorised drivers with a valid licence who are residents of Belgium. | Coverage extends to the policyholder, the owner, any holder, any driver and any passenger of the designated vehicle. The insurer has a right of recourse against the policyholder and insured in cases of: driving under influence of alcohol (proven causal link required); driving without a valid driving licence or by a person below the minimum legal age; driving during a period of licence suspension; more passengers than the authorised maximum; absence of a valid technical inspection certificate (with proven causal link). Recourse amounts are capped at 31,000 EUR for net expenses exceeding 11,000 EUR. The 58+ lifetime guarantee prevents non-renewal of the RC for the main driver aged 58+ with at least 5 years of claim-free history at Belfius Insurance. |
Claim notification deadline | Every claim must be reported immediately and at the latest within 8 days of occurrence, in writing to the insurer or the designated person in the contract. The insurer may not invoke this deadline if notification was made as soon as reasonably possible. All summons and judicial/extrajudicial documents must be forwarded to the insurer within 48 hours of receipt by the insured. | In the event of an accident, the insured must notify AXA as soon as possible and within the deadlines specified in the contract: (1) Within 24 hours for theft, attempted theft, vandalism or theft of keys/remote controls; (2) Within 8 days for all other claims (including accidents). For the Replacement Vehicle guarantee, accident claims must reach AXA within a maximum of 3 working days from the date of the loss in order to optimise the replacement vehicle duration. Claims can be submitted via the broker, online at www.axa.be (My AXA client space) or by calling the assistance line. For EURO+ claims, notification must occur at the latest upon return to Belgium. For legal protection (Protection Juridique) claims, the claim must be reported to Legal Village S.A. (Rue de la Pépinière 25, 1000 Brussels or declaration@legalvillage.be). | In case of a claim, the insured must notify Baloise immediately. For theft or attempted theft, a police report must be filed within 24 hours of discovering the theft. For roadside assistance, the insured must contact Baloise Assistance (+32 3 870 95 70 or assistance@baloise.be) immediately after the insured event, or as soon as possible. The insured must not admit liability, settle, or promise compensation without Baloise's prior written consent. | Any claim must be declared in writing immediately and no later than 8 days after its occurrence, to the insurer or any person designated for that purpose in the contract. For the optional vehicle assistance (Omnium), the same 8-day deadline applies from when the insured could reasonably make the declaration. For theft or attempted theft, a police report must be filed immediately. Claims can be reported online via the Belfius Mobile app or Belfius Direct Net, or by telephone at +32 (0)2 286 70 00 (Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00). For urgent assistance, the 24/7 helpline applies. |
Bonus malus rules | AG operates the 'Turbo Bonus' a posteriori personalisation system with a scale from grade -2 (lowest, 54% of base premium) to grade 22 (highest, 200% of base premium). New policies enter at grade 14 (100%) or grade 11 (85%) for limited-use vehicles. Each claim-free observation period results in a drop of 1 grade; each at-fault claim triggers a rise of 5 grades per claim. Once grade -2 is reached, premium cannot rise further due to further claims (no grade increase applies at -2). AG's Turbo Bonus system does not take into account accidents older than 5 years when determining the personalisation grade. At grade -2, the BA Max driver coverage is automatically and freely granted for life. | The RC/MTPL and Dégâts Matériels (Accident) premiums for cars and vans are personalised based on claims history (bonus-malus system). Two parameters apply: (1) Number of claim-free years (schadevrije jaren): ranges from 0 years (130% of base premium) to 5 or more years (100% of base premium); (2) Number of at-fault claims in the last 5 years: ranges from 0-1 claims (100%) to 4-5 or more claims (412.5%). The final premium = base premium × years-without-claim % × claims-in-5-years %. The Joker neutralises premium increases for the first 2 at-fault claims when subscribed. The Joker is permanently lost after a claim involving aggravating circumstances (drunk driving, intentional misrepresentation, fraudulent claim, deliberate damage, driving without/during suspension of licence, hit-and-run, non-payment of premium/suspension, unauthorised racing). The Joker is regained after 5 consecutive claim-free years following a claim that triggered a premium increase. | The Belgian MTPL bonus-malus scale runs from grade -2 (most favourable) to grade +22 (most expensive). Each claim-free year reduces the grade by 1. Each at-fault claim increases the grade by 5. Baloise's unique feature: once the insured reaches grade -2, this grade is maintained for life (even after an at-fault accident), except if there are 3 or more at-fault claims, or claims with aggravating circumstances (intoxication, fraud, deliberate damage, hit-and-run). The optional 'BM Safe' add-on protects the achieved grade for one at-fault claim per policy year, stopping automatically when grade -2 is reached. | Belfius Car applies the Belgian statutory a posteriori personalisation system (bonus-malus scale) to passenger cars for private and business use and to light commercial vehicles (MMA ≤ 3.5 t). Entry into the system is at the 'Starter' level (100% of the base premium). Each year's driving experience (years of B-category licence held) reduces the degree by one step. Each at-fault claim causes a rise of 5 degrees per claim. The scale runs from Malus 10 (250% of base premium) to Super-bonus 5 (50% of base premium, capped). No additional reduction applies below Bonus 10 / Super-bonus levels. If no claim is declared for 4 consecutive observed periods and the degree remains in malus zone, it is automatically reset to Starter. On change of main driver, the scale position is recalculated based on the new driver's experience and claims history. Prior experience from another EU member state insurer is recognised for the preceding 5 years. |

Direct payment policy | AG Insurance pays the repairer directly when repairs are carried out by an AG-approved repairer in the context of Multirisk/Omnium coverage or BA coverage for RDR-right accidents. For at-fault accidents without Omnium, the repair estimate can be approved by an AG Insurance expert. | AXA Belgium directly pays indemnities to injured third parties (victims) under the mandatory RC/MTPL coverage. For repair costs under the Assistance Réparation service, AXA pays the garage directly when an AXA-approved garage is used. AXA does not pay the policyholder directly for third-party liability claims; it settles directly with the claimant. | Baloise does not pay the insured directly for third-party MTPL claims; it settles liability claims directly with injured third parties. Roadside assistance costs are organised and paid directly by Baloise Assistance (via Europ Assistance). If the insured pre-finances allowed assistance costs without prior authorisation, reimbursement is capped at EUR 250 with original receipts. | Belfius Insurance does not apply direct payment to third parties as a standard feature of the base RC policy. Claims are settled by the insurer directly with injured parties pursuant to Belgian mandatory motor insurance law (Act of 21 November 1989). Sinister declaration is possible online via the Belfius Mobile app or Belfius Direct Net, or by phone at +32 (0)2 286 70 00 (Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00). The assistance helpline (+32 (0)2 286 70 00) is available 24/7. |
