Direct payment

Yuzzu (acting for AXA Belgium) settles compensation directly with injured third parties or their subrogated payers within the statutory deadlines; the insurer is then subrogated into the victim's rights against any liable party. For the optional BOB designated-driver cover, material damage is settled directly through insurer-approved garages.

Geographic scope

Belgium, with third-party liability cover extended to all countries shown on the insurance certificate.

Cover applies in Belgium and any country listed on the certificate of insurance; a supplementary bodily-injury top-up applies in Andorra, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Vatican City, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Switzerland.

Unique selling points

  • A designated-driver (BOB) extension pays up to 10,000 EUR material damage, up to 100,000 EUR bodily injury for the volunteer driver, plus a taxi voucher home, when a sober driver takes the wheel after an outing.
  • A foreign-accident top-up tops up bodily-injury compensation to the more favourable Belgian legal standard, up to 500,000 EUR per insured person, across a defined list of Western European countries.
  • Accident towing and a replacement vehicle for the normal repair duration at an approved garage are included in the premium, with no separate assistance option needed for that scenario.
  • A 24/7 assistance and info line is available to organise towing, replacement vehicles and other assistance services at any time.
  • The optional Legal Protection guarantee is handled independently by the specialised firm Legal Village, covering legal costs up to 25,000 EUR per claim so the insured's defence is not managed by the same entity paying out third-party claims.

Coverage limits

Bodily injury liability - unlimited

unlimited

There is no indemnity limit for damage resulting from bodily injury caused by the insured vehicle to third parties, in line with the mandatory minimum conditions for Belgian motor liability insurance.

Material damage liability - capped at 100 million EUR

€100,000,000

Compensation for material (property) damage caused to third parties is capped at 100,000,000 EUR per claim, a limit indexed under article 3 of the Belgian law of 21 November 1989 on compulsory motor liability insurance.

Source

Legal protection (Traffic Legal Assistance) - optional, up to 25,000 EUR

€25,000

Only in Rechtsbijstand Verkeer, Protection Juridique Circulation

An optional Legal Protection guarantee, managed independently by Legal Village SA, covers legal costs (lawyer, bailiff, expert fees) up to 25,000 EUR per claim for civil recovery, criminal defence and 'weak road user' recourse claims; contractual disputes (e.g. EV charging point installation, car-wash disputes) are capped at 5,000 EUR per claim in the current edition. This is separate from the statutory defence-cost cover under the compulsory liability guarantee, where the insurer pays lawyer and expert fees for defending the insured's own liability even beyond the indemnity limits.

The reviewed sources do not specify a separate green-card fee or value; third-party liability is confirmed valid in all countries listed on the insurance certificate.

Passenger bodily injury cover - included, unlimited

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Third-party liability is valid in Belgium and every country listed on the insurance certificate; a foreign-accident bodily-injury top-up to the more favourable Belgian compensation standard applies in a defined list of Western European countries.

Green card rules

No separate green-card fee or specific value is stated in the reviewed policy documents; the insurance certificate serves as proof of cover in the countries it lists.

Driver restrictions

The vehicle must be driven by a person holding a valid driving licence appropriate to the vehicle and meeting the legally required minimum age; the insurer has a recourse right against the policyholder/insured if the vehicle was driven by an underage, unlicensed, licence-restricted or disqualified driver, unless this results only from a purely administrative formality.

Claim notification deadline

Claims must be reported in writing immediately and at the latest within 8 days of occurrence, though a later report is accepted if made as soon as reasonably possible; theft, attempted theft, vandalism or key theft under the optional casco guarantees must be reported within 24 hours.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums for liability, material damage and total-loss cover are personalised each year based on the number of years with a claims-free attestation (scale from 100% at 5+ years to 150% at 0 years) combined with the number of at-fault claims and claims-free years over the last 5 years (a combined grid ranging from 100% up to 550% of the base premium).
