Assistance call deadline

Guaranteed services that were not requested from Ethias during the trip, or not organised by or with the agreement of Ethias, do not give rise to reimbursement or compensation after the fact.

In geen geval geven gewaarborgde hulpverleningen, die niet tijdens de reis bij Ethias werden aangevraagd of niet door haar of met haar toestemming werden georganiseerd, achteraf aanleiding tot terugbetaling of vergoeding.

Unauthorized treatment

All medical transport and assistance services must be pre-approved by Ethias; services organised without its prior agreement are not reimbursable.

In alle gevallen moet Ethias het vervoer vooraf goedkeuren.

Purchase while abroad

The sources do not address buying the policy while already abroad. Cover starts on the date stated in the special conditions, provided the first premium has been paid; any request relating to facts predating entry into force of the contract is excluded.

De waarborg vangt aan op de datum vermeld in de bijzondere voorwaarden voor zover de eerste premie werd betaald.

Chronic conditions

Relapses and convalescence from any condition already under treatment, or that has required hospitalisation in the last six months, or at least three episodes of complication or relapse each requiring hospitalisation in the last two years, do not give rise to repatriation.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy does not give rise to repatriation or reimbursement unless a clear and unforeseen complication occurs; childbirth costs and voluntary termination of pregnancy are always excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Costs linked to pre-existing conditions, continuation of treatment of a previously known illness, or a relapse of an illness contracted before departure abroad are excluded.

Coverage duration limit

For stays exceeding 90 consecutive days abroad, only incidents occurring before the expiry of the first 90 days are covered; this is extended to 120 days if a WHO-declared pandemic causes border closures on day 90. Beyond that, a temporary policy is required.

In case of accident or disappearance abroad, maximum coverage for search and rescue costs

Winter sports ski-pass reimbursement limit

Reimbursement of unused pro-rata ski-pass cost if insured cannot ski due to accident or illness

Legal assistance - criminal bail advance limit

Ethias may advance criminal bail demanded by authorities following a traffic accident

Trip duration coverage limit

For annual insurance, coverage applies only to incidents occurring within the first 90 days of an international trip

All medical transport, repatriation and assistance services must be pre-approved by Ethias; services organized without prior approval are not reimbursable

Medical costs in Belgium excluded

Medical expenses incurred in Belgium are not covered, even if originating from illness/accident abroad

Intoxication exclusion

No assistance or compensation for events occurring while insured is under influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances

Pre-existing conditions exclusion

Costs linked to pre-existing conditions, continuation of treatment for previously known illness, or relapse of illness contracted before departure are excluded

Chronic disease repatriation restriction

Relapses and convalescence from conditions already under treatment, or requiring hospitalization in last 6 months, or with 3+ complications in last 2 years do not give rise to repatriation

Pregnancy complications coverage

Pregnancy does not give rise to repatriation or reimbursement unless clear and unforeseen complication occurs; childbirth and voluntary termination always excluded

Geographic exclusions from coverage

Coverage excludes countries at war, experiencing civil unrest, or where free movement of persons is not permitted; coverage in Belgium applies only outside policyholder's home address

Automatic family coverage

Entire household domiciled in Belgium automatically covered without per-person surcharge, including children of any age

No deductible / No excess

No deductible applies to travel assistance coverage; claims reimbursed in full up to stated limits

Payment method for medical costs

Ethias may pay medical costs either as direct advance to foreign providers or reimburse policyholder upon return to Belgium
