Direct payment

The insurer, through the Assistance company, directs the insured to an appropriate healthcare institution and pays the actually incurred costs for medical examinations, treatment, medicaments, and repatriation directly up to the agreed policy limit. If the insured pays costs themselves, reimbursement can be claimed by notifying the insurer online at www.uniqa.bg within 5 working days of return.

Emergency medical treatment

Covered

Covers necessary costs for emergency medical examinations, treatment, or surgical intervention due to acute illness or accident, including transportation costs for evacuation to the nearest or other hospital. Included in all packages. Common amateur sports and leisure activities (excluding winter sports and extreme or professional sports) are also covered.

Outpatient medical consultations and treatment are covered under urgent medical expenses in all packages, within the overall policy limit. Pre-existing and chronic conditions

Conditional

Treatment of chronic or recurrent diseases or conditions pre-existing before policy inception is generally excluded. However, in case of a suddenly occurring life-threatening crisis resulting from a pre-existing condition, emergency medical aid to stabilise the insured is covered, as well as medical transportation and repatriation of mortal remains to the country of permanent residence.

Winter sports coverage

Optional

Optional add-on available for all packages against additional premium. Applies only during the official ski season. Medical expenses and medical transport or repatriation related to winter sports are covered only if this option is added. Sub-limit for unused ski lift passes and replacement equipment rental: up to 300 EUR per insured person. Winter sports off marked ski slopes and in freeride zones remain excluded even with this cover.

Amateur sports and leisure activities

Conditional

Common amateur and leisure sports activities (excluding winter sports, professional sports, and extreme sports) are covered within the basic medical expenses coverage in the easy package and above. Professional and extreme amateur sports such as parachuting, bungee jumping, alpinism, rock-climbing, mountain biking, diving, surfing, rafting, caving, hunting, ATV or off-road driving, paintball, and competitions of any kind are excluded unless explicitly written in the policy with additional premium paid.

Pregnancy complications

Pregnancy, childbirth, and abortion are generally excluded. Life-threatening conditions arising from unexpected pregnancy complications are covered under emergency medical aid provisions. Sterility, gender change, and sexually-transmitted diseases are also excluded.

Assistance is provided through the partner Assistance company, which directs the insured to appropriate healthcare, organises transport, and pays medical expenses on the insured's behalf within the agreed policy limit.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must notify the Assistance company within 24 hours of the occurrence of an insured event. When admitted to a healthcare facility in a life-threatening condition, the insured must inform the Assistance company before leaving the facility. For reimbursement of self-paid medical expenses, the insurer must be notified online at www.uniqa.bg within 5 working days of return from abroad.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured refuses to follow the instructions of the Assistance company or the treating physician, the insurer is released from liability and all subsequent medical and other costs incurred after the date of refusal shall be borne by the insured.

Purchase while abroad

The insurance must be purchased before departure. The policy enters into force at 00:00 on the start date of the trip, provided the premium has been paid. The earliest possible start date is the next day after purchase. Online purchase is not available for applicants aged 70 or older on the trip start date; individual offers are available through UNIQA offices.

Chronic conditions

Treatment of chronic or recurrent diseases or conditions pre-existing before policy inception is excluded. In case of a suddenly occurring crisis from a pre-existing condition, only emergency medical aid to remove the insured from a life-threatening state, and medical transportation or repatriation of mortal remains, are covered.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy, childbirth, and abortion are excluded, except in cases of a life-threatening condition. Sterility, gender change, and sexually-transmitted diseases are also excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing chronic or recurrent diseases are generally excluded. Emergency stabilisation, medical transport, and repatriation are covered even for pre-existing conditions if a sudden life-threatening crisis occurs during the trip.

Coverage duration limit

For single-trip policies, the policy is valid for the period of the trip. For multi-trip annual policies, coverage is provided for one year with a maximum duration per trip of 31, 62, or 92 days depending on the selected option. Coverage expires upon expiry of the policy, death, or 50% degree loss of working ability of the insured.
