Direct payment

The insurer's contracted assistance service can provide a payment guarantee directly to the medical facility for outpatient treatment and hospitalization; for other costs the insured generally pays first and submits original documents for reimbursement after returning to the Czech Republic.

Geographic scope

Selectable territorial zones: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Europe, Limited World, and full World

Insurance does not apply in Afghanistan, Chad, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or countries the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against traveling to at the time of arranging the policy; medical-expenses cover (incl. repatriation) also does not apply in the country of the insured's permanent residence, the country of citizenship, the Czech Republic, or the USA for green-card holders.

Unique selling points

  • Choice of three medical-expenses limits (3.5m / 5m / 7m CZK) so travelers can size cover to their destination and trip risk.
  • Recreational and winter sports (e.g. piste skiing and snowboarding) are automatically included in the base price at no extra cost.
  • Can be arranged online at the very last minute, including on the day of departure via the online calculator.
  • Includes a free 24/7 'Doctor on the phone' telemedicine consultation service with e-prescription issuance as part of medical-expenses cover.
  • Optional pet travel insurance lets policyholders cover their dog or cat's veterinary treatment costs abroad.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In the event of an insured event under medical-expenses cover, the insured must always contact the insurer's contracted assistance service without delay (if health permits) and follow its instructions; failure to do so allows the insurer to refuse or reduce the benefit.

Unauthorized treatment

Costly examinations/procedures (CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, non-acute surgery, non-standard blood tests) require prior approval by the insurer or assistance service, and repatriation arranged without their prior consent is not covered; not following assistance instructions generally allows the insurer to reduce or refuse the benefit.

Purchase while abroad

The policy can only be arranged before departure from the Czech Republic; both conclusion of the contract and payment must demonstrably take place on Czech territory, and it cannot be concluded from abroad (an 8-hour deferral period after payment also applies).

Chronic conditions

Treatment of a chronic illness is excluded if that illness required hospitalization or a significant change in treatment/medication in the preceding 12 months, and illnesses that recurred within the previous 18 months are also excluded.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy tests, interruption, infertility treatment/IVF, routine prenatal checkups, and any complication after the 24th week of pregnancy (including childbirth) are excluded from cover.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

The insurer may refuse to pay for illness or injury whose cause arose before the policy began, or that was already apparent or ascertainable before the policy started.

Coverage duration limit

For the annual policy for repeated trips (CPOV), each individual stay abroad must not exceed 90 calendar days, the insured must spend at least one week in the Czech Republic after any trip longer than 30 continuous days, and the number of trips is unlimited; the insurance also auto-extends (max. 30 days) if return is prevented by strikes/terrorism/natural disaster, or without a fixed cap if a documented acute illness or injury prevents return (limited then to medical expenses and repatriation only).
