Geographic scope

DK

All EU countries and countries outside the EU that are members of the Green Card scheme. Liability covers at minimum the sums set by Danish law (færdselsloven). Casco covers the same territory.

Unique selling points

  • Roadside assistance with a 1-hour arrival guarantee in Denmark – if help arrives late, the full year's roadside assistance premium is refunded.
  • Earn 1% monthly Coop member bonus on premiums, plus 5% extra claim-free bonus and a welcome bonus when taking out the policy.
  • Pay-per-kilometre pricing: the annual mileage reading adjusts the premium automatically, so customers only pay for what they actually drive.
  • Elite driver status attainable in as little as 3 years regardless of age, granting a permanently lower car insurance premium.
  • Young household members can earn up to 4 years of no-claims seniority under the 'Ung bilist' add-on, which transfers to their own future policy within Coop Forsikringer.

Legal defence (Retshjælp)

Conditional

Legal defence insurance is included in the Delkasko and Kasko tiers. It covers the insured's legal costs (sagsomkostninger) for certain private civil disputes where the insured is a party as owner, user or driver of the insured vehicle, provided the dispute is not connected to the insured's profession. Specific sums and excess are stated in the separate retshjælp terms. Legal defence is not part of the standalone MTPL (Ansvar-only) tier.

Green Card (International Motor Insurance Certificate)

Covered

The Green Card is included as standard with the mandatory liability insurance. It serves as proof of mandatory third-party liability coverage when driving in EU member states and other countries that are part of the Green Card scheme. The policy covers at a minimum the statutory sums of each respective country, but at least the sums set by the Danish Road Traffic Act.

Roadside assistance (Vejhjælp)

Optional

Roadside assistance is an optional add-on (tillæg til ansvar). In Denmark it covers: vehicle assistance, door unlocking, passenger transport, patient transport, loan car subsidy, trailer assistance, and psychological crisis help – with a 1-hour arrival guarantee (premium refunded if breached). European roadside assistance (Vejhjælp Europa) covers: vehicle assistance, door unlocking, patient transport, and trailer help in all EU and Green Card countries. Automatic roadside assistance abroad is included when comprehensive (kasko) cover is selected.

Driver accident insurance (Førerulykke)

Optional

Optional add-on (tillæg til ansvar). Covers the driver of the insured vehicle when there is no possibility of obtaining compensation from a liable party, a liability insurer, or a mandatory workers' compensation insurer. Key conditions

territorial_scope

The mandatory liability (MTPL) insurance covers all EU countries and countries outside the EU that are members of the Green Card scheme. Coverage applies with the sums applicable in each respective country, at a minimum with the sums set by the Danish Road Traffic Act (færdselsloven). Comprehensive (casco) insurance also covers all EU and Green Card countries. Roadside assistance in Denmark covers mainland Denmark (excluding Faroe Islands and Greenland) and the E65 transit route between Malmø and Ystad and 25 km south of the Danish-German border.

green_card_rules

The Green Card is included with the liability insurance and serves as proof of mandatory third-party liability cover when driving abroad in EU and Green Card scheme countries. The policy covers at a minimum the statutory sums of each respective country, but never less than the amounts set by the Danish Road Traffic Act. Coverage abroad only applies if there is no special insurance for driving abroad in place.

driver_restrictions

The insurance covers any lawful user of the vehicle. A special excess of at least DKK 7,700 (2024) applies to both liability and casco claims when the driver is under 24 years of age at the time of the loss (excluding glass damage, certain no-fault liability incidents, and if the driver is the policyholder, spouse or partner). This excess does not apply to company cars where the driver is an employee driving in the course of employment. The excess is waived if the optional 'Ung bilist' (young driver) add-on has been purchased.

claim_notification_deadline

A claim must be notified to Coop Forsikringer fra Topdanmark as soon as possible ('hurtigst muligt'). Theft, robbery, and serial vandalism must also be reported to the police as soon as possible. Repairs may only be carried out after agreement with the insurer. Glass damage without a liable third party does not need to be reported; the workshop notifies the insurer automatically. Roadside assistance and rescue abroad claims must be reported to Topdanmark's alarm centre.

bonus_malus_rules

The price is partly determined by seniority (anciennitet) reflecting claim-free driving experience. A maximum of 4 years of seniority can be earned. Seniority can be transferred when changing insurer in some cases, and can be carried forward to a new vehicle if it is insured with Coop Forsikringer fra Topdanmark. Customers can achieve 'elite driver' (elitebilist) status in as little as 3 years, which provides a lower premium. A 5% extra bonus is earned if no claims are made on the car, home, contents or accident insurance in a full year. Atypical claim frequency may lead to price increases, added conditions, suspension of covers, or policy termination.
