Key conditions

territorial_scope

Coverage is valid in EEA member states, Switzerland, and other countries listed on the Green Card (Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, North Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom). Green Cards issued in Estonia are not valid in Russia and Belarus as of 1 June 2023. In countries outside Estonia, the applicable compensation rules and limits are those of the country where the incident occurred.

green_card_rules

A Green Card (international motor insurance certificate) is included and issued free of charge; it must be carried when driving in Green Card countries outside the EEA. Estonian insurers no longer issue Green Cards valid in Russia and Belarus (suspended from 1 June 2023). The Green Card extends coverage to all listed non-EEA Green Card countries.

driver_restrictions

The insured vehicle in standard use must not be used as a rental car, taxi, ride-sharing service vehicle, or as a training, emergency/alarm, courier, or security patrol vehicle. If such use is intended, the relevant use category must be specified in the insurance contract. The insurer may exercise a right of recourse against the at-fault driver if damage was caused intentionally or while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

claim_notification_deadline

The policyholder must notify LHV of a traffic accident immediately (without delay) and follow LHV's instructions. The damaged vehicle and other property must be preserved in their post-accident condition until LHV's instructions are received. If a digital accident report was completed at the scene and forwarded to LHV, a separate notification is not required.

bonus_malus_rules

Bonus-malus (claims history discount/surcharge) for MTPL insurance is governed in principle by the Estonian Motor Insurance Act, but Estonia does not operate a centralised statutory bonus-malus system. Each insurer applies its own individual merit-rating scale. Premium levels are influenced by the vehicle type, age, engine power, intended use, region, insurance period, and the policyholder's claims history as assessed by the insurer.
