Direct payment

Pohjola Vakuutus operates a designated repair partner network (Pohjola Korjaamomestari and other named repair partners) that can bill the insurer directly once a claims decision has been made; the policyholder only pays the deductible to the repair shop. Repairs carried out elsewhere are reimbursed only up to what the designated partner would have charged.

Geographic scope

Europe and Green Card agreement countries

Valid throughout Europe and in Green Card countries outside Europe, except the non-European part of Russia. Theft cover for private cars/motorcycles under Osakasko/Minikasko is not valid in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine or Moldova and this limit cannot be extended. Osakasko roadside assistance is valid only in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark and transport between them.

Unique selling points

  • Liikennevakuutus starts at a 40% no-claims bonus and can reach the maximum 80% bonus in as little as 5 years of claim-free driving.
  • A unique bonus-protection feature: after two consecutive years at the 80% liikennevakuutus bonus, a single claim no longer reduces your bonus level.
  • Optional Lasiturva covers every window on the car, including the roof glass/sunroof, not just the windscreen.
  • Superkasko's keskeytysturva can deliver a replacement car straight to the accident scene, not just to a rental office.
  • OP owner-customers holding products across three insurance categories get close to a 10% discount plus OP-bonuses usable toward future premiums.

Coverage limits

Own Damage / Collision Cover (Vaunuvahinko)

Conditional

Only in Superkasko, Isokasko

Covers sudden and unforeseen external damage to the insured vehicle from collision, running off the road, overturning or road collapse. Settlement is based on the vehicle's fair value or reasonable repair cost. Only included in the Superkasko and Isokasko tiers; Osakasko and Minikasko do not include this cover.

Source

Total Loss Settlement (Lunastus)

Covered

If estimated repair costs exceed 60% of the vehicle's fair value immediately before the loss, the insurer may redeem the vehicle at that fair value instead of paying for repairs. Under specific conditions (vehicle age ≤3 years and ≤60,000 km for Superkasko, or ≤1 year and ≤25,000 km for Isokasko, with repair cost >50% of the new list price) a new-value settlement (uusarvolunastus) at the retail price of an equivalent new vehicle may apply instead of fair value.

Source

Partial Damage Repair Settlement

Covered

If the damaged vehicle can be repaired at reasonable cost, the claim equals the repair costs or an equivalent cash sum. Repairs must use parts of comparable age and condition where available; if the repair also improves the vehicle's condition, the settlement is reduced accordingly.

Theft & Robbery Cover (Varkausvakuutus)

Covered

Covers loss of, or damage to, the vehicle and its standard equipment caused by theft, unlawful taking, joyriding or attempts thereof, provided the vehicle was locked or in a locked storage facility and a police report requesting punishment has been filed. Included as standard in all tiers of the line (Superkasko, Isokasko, Osakasko, Minikasko).

Glass Cover (Lasivakuutus)

Optional

Only in Superkasko, Isokasko, Osakasko

Optional additional cover for a motor vehicle's window glass, including roof glass, damaged by a direct impact and requiring repair or replacement. Not included by default; must be added separately.

Natural Perils (Storm/Hail Damage)

Covered

Only in Superkasko, Isokasko

Storm and hail damage to the vehicle is covered as part of the collision/own-damage cover (vaunuvahinkovakuutus), which treats such events as a sudden, unforeseen cause damaging the vehicle from the outside. Storm/hail claims do not reduce the policyholder's bonus and remain payable even while the vehicle is temporarily deregistered from traffic use.

Vandalism Cover (Ilkivaltavakuutus)

Conditional

Only in Superkasko, Isokasko, Osakasko

Covers intentional damage by a third party where the time and place of the act can be precisely established and a police report is filed. Included in Superkasko, Isokasko and Osakasko; not included in Minikasko. Damage occurring during unlawful use is only covered if it would also be covered under the theft insurance.

Roadside Assistance (Autopalveluvakuutus)

€500

Only in Superkasko, Isokasko, Osakasko

Covers extra costs when a journey already begun is interrupted by breakdown, damage, or theft of the locked vehicle: towing/lifting onto the road, on-site repair labour, and onward travel/overnight costs up to EUR 200 (up to EUR 500 under Superkasko), capped at the cost of the return trip home. No deductible applies. Standard in Superkasko; included for cars, motorcycles and campers under Isokasko and Osakasko; not included in Minikasko.

Driver Personal Accident Cover

Excluded

Casco (autovakuutus) does not cover personal injury to the driver or passengers. Such injuries are handled under the compulsory motor liability insurance (liikennevakuutus) and its optional Kriisiturva rider, which pays a lump sum on death and reimburses crisis therapy, travel/overnight and home-help costs following a road accident.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The casco terms do not impose a minimum driver age or licence-experience requirement as an eligibility or exclusion condition. The policyholder's age is, however, one of the rating factors used to calculate the liikennevakuutus and kasko premium.

Repair network requirements

The insurer has the right to designate the repair shop or place of acquisition; the policyholder must contact the insurer before repairs begin. If the vehicle is repaired at a shop other than a named Pohjola Vakuutus repair partner (e.g. Pohjola Korjaamomestari), the claim payment is capped at the amount the repair would have cost at the designated partner.

Territorial scope

Cover is valid throughout Europe and in Green Card agreement countries outside Europe, except the non-European part of Russia. Theft cover for private cars/motorcycles under Osakasko/Minikasko is not valid in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine or Moldova and cannot be extended there. Osakasko roadside assistance is valid only in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark and transport between them.

Anti-theft requirements

For theft claims to be paid, the vehicle must have been locked as defined in the terms (closed and locked body for cars; a device preventing coupling/movement for trailers; ignition key removed plus steering/gear lock or electronic immobiliser for motorcycles/mopeds/ATVs) or kept in a locked storage facility. Trucks first registered for licensed transport after 1 January 2014 must carry an electronic immobiliser, otherwise an increased deductible applies. Light electric vehicles (e.g. e-scooters) must be kept in a locked storage facility or secured with a mechanical lock/electronic immobiliser outdoors.

Claim notification deadline

Fire, theft and vandalism damage, and collisions with any wild deer-type animal other than reindeer, must be reported immediately to the police at the place of loss; vehicles stolen or lost abroad must also be reported to the Finnish police. For theft, loss of the vehicle is compensated if it has not been recovered within 30 days of the insurer receiving a copy of the police report.

Deductible rules

Each claim carries a case-specific deductible stated on the policy document (e.g. from EUR 200 for collision cover per the 2023 product guide). Special increased deductibles of 25% of the loss apply for: obstacle-above-the-road damage on trucks/trailers/buses; theft of a truck lacking a required electronic immobiliser (min. the theft deductible, max EUR 10,000); and fire on a bus lacking the required automatic suppression system. Outside the Nordic countries the deductible for property damage is doubled, and for theft in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine or Moldova the deductible is 20% of the loss, minimum EUR 600.
