  • A second vehicle insured with If automatically receives the same bonus level as the customer's primary car.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

The MTPL policy is valid in Finland and all EEA states, and applies as liability cover in Green Card agreement countries outside the EEA, but is not valid in Azerbaijan, Iran, Kosovo, Northern Cyprus, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Belarus, Russia or Nagorno-Karabakh.

Green card rules

In Green Card countries outside the EEA, compensation for a traffic accident is determined according to the legislation of the country where the loss occurred, applying Green Card liability cover with or without a physical Green Card where one is not mandatory.

Driver restrictions

Premiums take into account driver age; policies with a driver under 24 years old can be repriced when this fact becomes known, and drivers aged 18-26 at policy inception may qualify for an accelerated bonus benefit (Nuoren Loistokuski) after four consecutive claim-free periods.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify If in writing without undue delay after becoming aware of a traffic accident that may lead to a compensation claim, using a claim report form where possible, and must file a police report in cases involving crime, malicious damage or bodily injury in traffic.

Bonus-malus rules

For policies starting on or after 20 May 2017, a new policy without prior claims history starts at a 30% bonus, rising 10 percentage points per claim-free period up to a maximum of 80%; after a claim, bonus falls by 10, 15 or 20 percentage points depending on the bonus level at the time of loss, down to a minimum of 0%.
