Coverage limits
All-Accident Damage (Dommages tous accidents)
Covered
Covers damage to the insured vehicle resulting from: collision with one or more other vehicles; impact with a fixed or mobile body external to the insured vehicle; rollover without prior collision; an act of vandalism; unpredictable flooding following water rise caused by excess rain (river overflow or sewer backflow) or pipe rupture. Coverage is at economic value on date of loss. Deductible amounts are specified in the Specific Conditions. A degressive deductible applies after 2 years without a claim (20% reduction at an AXA partner garage, 10% otherwise), increasing to 50% reduction after 8 years without a claim at a partner garage.
SourceTotal Loss / Constructive Total Loss
Covered
When repair costs exceed the vehicle's economic value at date of loss, the vehicle is declared a VEI (économiquement irréparable). Standard indemnification is based on the value à dire d'expert (VADE) — the market value before the loss. With the optional 'Indemnisation renforcée': vehicles under 2 years old are indemnified at purchase value; vehicles 2 years and older are indemnified at VADE + 20% (minimum €1,000 added), capped at purchase value. For LLD/LOA contracts the lessor's claim is settled up to the VADE.
SourcePartial Damage to Vehicle
Covered
When the vehicle is repairable, AXA pays the repair cost evaluated by its expert, up to the vehicle's economic value on date of loss, net of applicable deductible. If the insured chooses an AXA partner garage, AXA pays the repairer directly. If the insured uses a non-partner repairer, AXA pays the insured on presentation of a paid invoice. Repair warranty of up to 5 years is provided when using an AXA partner garage.
SourceTheft and Attempted Theft
Optional
Covers disappearance or deterioration of the insured vehicle following theft or attempted theft, including theft of separately removed elements forming part of the insured vehicle. Theft and attempted theft are only covered when serious evidence of break-in (effraction) is established. Indemnification is limited to 70% of damages when: (1) ignition keys or electronic start cards were inside or on the vehicle (unless theft occurred after break-in of residence or private garage, or in case of assault); (2) vehicle is stolen after keys are stolen (unless vehicle stolen within 72 hours of key theft, or replacement steps taken within 72 hours). An additional 70% limitation applies if a required GPS tracking device is absent or non-functional, or if the parking location does not comply with Specific Conditions requirements.
SourceGlass Damage (Bris de glace)
Optional
Covers repair and/or replacement costs for the following glass elements: windscreen, rear window, side windows, sunroof (opening or fixed), and front lights (ensemble des feux avant). Excluded are: rear lights, exterior mirror glass, and any other glass or organic glass element. Coverage amount is capped per the Specific Conditions. Claim must be declared before any repair or replacement. Specialist AXA Glass service available at 0970 820 018 with a 5-day declaration deadline. No advance of costs required at AXA partner glass centres, with a 2-year repair warranty.
SourceNatural Disasters, Technological Disasters and Climatic Events
Optional
Three separate guarantees: (1) Natural Disasters (catastrophes naturelles): covers direct material damage caused by abnormally intense natural agents once recognised by interministerial decree published in the Journal Officiel. Mandatory statutory deductible of €380 per vehicle per event. (2) Technological Disasters: covers damage resulting from a declared state of technological catastrophe per L 128-1 of the Insurance Code. (3) Climatic Events: covers damage from storms/hurricanes/cyclones (wind action or impact of object propelled by wind), hail, and snowfall. Limits and deductibles per Specific Conditions.
SourceVandalism
Covered
Vandalism (dommage matériel causé sans autre mobile que la volonté de détériorer ou de détruire) is covered under the 'Dommages tous accidents' guarantee, which is included in all Tous risques formulas. It is also covered under the vehicle assistance guarantee (roadside assistance is available without a km deductible following vandalism). Vandalism damage is excluded under the Vol guarantee but can be covered under Dommages tous accidents if that coverage is subscribed.
SourceRoadside Assistance (Assistance au véhicule)
Covered
24/7 roadside assistance available by calling 01 55 92 26 92. Covers: accidents, fire, theft or attempted theft, vandalism, glass damage, terrorist acts, climatic events, natural or technological disasters, tyre puncture, wrong fuel, loss/break/theft of keys. Also covers mechanical, electrical, electronic or hydraulic breakdowns, and fuel or energy breakdown. In case of breakdown, a km deductible applies per the formula subscribed (30 km standard; 0 km with Pack Tranquillité). No km deductible for accidents and other non-breakdown events. AXA commits to dispatch a recovery vehicle within 1 hour anywhere in metropolitan France or Monaco; if this deadline is not met, a €30 indemnity is paid (conditions apply — excludes orange/red/black departure periods, regulated roads such as motorways and ring roads, force majeure, and interventions on campervans, utility vehicles, or vehicles with trailer/caravan). Towing/breakdown covered up to €185 TTC to nearest garage. Assistance to persons (medical repatriation etc.) also included for accidents with corporeal injury at more than 30 km from home.
SourceReplacement Vehicle / Loan Vehicle (Véhicule de prêt)
Optional
When the insured vehicle is immobilised for more than 24 hours, AXA arranges and provides a city car (citadine) loan vehicle: up to 7 days for breakdown; up to 15 days for accident, fire, vandalism, natural disaster or climatic/technological event; up to 30 days for theft (if vehicle not found within 24 hours). For professional utility vehicles, equivalent capacity is provided. If a partner agency cannot provide the vehicle or the insured does not meet rental requirements, compensation of €40 TTC/day (or €120 TTC/day for adapted/utility vehicles) is paid on presentation of a professional rental invoice. In addition, when the insured vehicle is temporarily unavailable due to breakdown or accident and left with a garage, all policy coverages automatically transfer to the rented or borrowed replacement vehicle (up to 30 days; max indemnity capped at the insured vehicle's economic value on date of loss). This transfer feature is present in all formulas; the dedicated Véhicule de prêt guarantee is optional.
SourceDriver Personal Accident Cover (Garantie du conducteur)
Covered
Covers the bodily injury of the insured persons as driver of the insured vehicle in a traffic accident, regardless of whether the driver is at fault. Compensation is calculated under French common law rules, net of third-party payer benefits. Covers: current medical expenses, current professional income losses, permanent functional deficit (AIPP) above 10% threshold, cost of third-person assistance before and after consolidation, pain and suffering, permanent aesthetic damage, recreational damage, adapted accommodation and vehicle costs. In case of death: income losses for beneficiaries, emotional damage, funeral costs. An advance of up to €3,000 is paid for funeral costs. Permanent functional deficit indemnified only if AIPP rate exceeds 10%; a 10% deductible applies to the rate. Covered up to the limit stated in Specific Conditions (standard: €250,000; optionally extendable to €500,000, €1,000,000 or €2,000,000 with Pack Tranquillité).
SourceKey conditions
driver_age_experience_limit
No minimum age or experience requirement is specified in the General Conditions for coverage to apply to the principal driver. However, an 'Autres Conducteurs' (other drivers) additional deductible applies when the vehicle is driven by someone other than the principal driver declared in the contract or their spouse/partner. This additional deductible can be waived (rachetée) for certain drivers per the Specific Conditions. Drivers under 25 years designated in the contract benefit from the 'Joker' service (up to 5 taxi journeys per year within 50 km of home if unable to drive). A new-driver surcharge (surprime jeune conducteur) per Article A 121-1-1 of the Insurance Code may be applied. Coverage is excluded when the driver does not hold a valid driving licence of the required category.
repair_network_requirements
The insured has the right to choose any professional repairer (Article L.211-5-1 of the Insurance Code). However, using an AXA partner garage provides additional benefits: no advance of costs beyond the deductible; a loan vehicle during repairs (subject to availability); a repair warranty of up to 5 years; and degressive deductible reductions (20% after 2 years without a claim, up to 50% after 8 years without a claim). Repairs must not commence before the claim is declared to AXA and AXA's agreement is obtained.
territorial_scope
For all non-RC guarantees (own damage, glass, theft, assistance, etc.): coverage applies in metropolitan France, DROM-COM, Monaco, and for stays not exceeding 6 consecutive months in multilateral agreement signatory countries (list current as of 1 January 2024) and non-signatory countries with international insurance certificate. The 6-month limit does not apply to students residing abroad solely to study. For natural disasters, technological disasters and terrorist acts: metropolitan France and DROM only. For liability (RC): metropolitan France, DROM-COM, and all multilateral agreement signatory and non-signatory countries (with certificate).
anti_theft_requirements
The insured must take elementary precautions to not facilitate theft: close windows, activate protection and alarm devices, lock all doors including the boot before moving away from the vehicle, never leave keys or electronic start cards in the vehicle, and never leave the registration certificate (carte grise) in the vehicle. Indemnification is limited to 70% of damages if keys or electronic start cards were inside or on the vehicle at time of theft (except if theft occurred after break-in of residence or private garage, or assault). A further 70% limitation applies if a required GPS geolocation system (as specified in Specific Conditions) is absent or non-functional on the day of the loss, or if the garage location does not comply with requirements in the Specific Conditions.
claim_notification_deadline
Glass damage: 5 working days. Traffic accidents: 5 working days (complete and sign the European accident report). Theft, attempted theft or vandalism: file a police complaint within 24 hours and submit the receipt; declare to AXA within 2 working days. Natural disasters: 30 days following publication of the interministerial decree. All other claims: 5 working days. Failure to meet these deadlines may result in a coverage forfeiture (déchéance) if AXA can demonstrate that the delay caused it prejudice. Damage to the vehicle must be declared BEFORE any repair or replacement work begins.
deductible_rules
Deductible amounts (franchise) are specified in the Specific Conditions and vary by formula and guarantee. Three types exist: (1) Fixed (forfaitaire): expressed in euros. When partially at fault with an identified third party, the deductible is halved. When a non-responsible event occurs without an identified third party, the full deductible applies. (2) Proportional: a fixed part (€) plus a variable percentage of repair costs, with a maximum cap. (3) Statutory (légale): for natural disasters, fixed at €380 per vehicle per event regardless of insurer. A degressive deductible reduction applies to Dommages tous accidents, Fire, Theft, Climatic Events and Terrorist Acts guarantees: after 2 years without a claim, 20% reduction at AXA partner garage (10% elsewhere); after 4 years, 30% (20%); after 6 years, 40% (30%); after 8 years, 50% (40%). Degressive reduction does not apply to 'Autres Conducteurs', 'dépassement kilométrique' and 'RC fonctionnement' deductibles. An additional 'Autres Conducteurs' deductible applies when a driver other than the principal driver or their spouse causes a claim (can be waived per Specific Conditions). A mileage overrun deductible of €250 + €0.25 per km exceeded applies if declared annual km limit is exceeded at time of claim.
