If the policyholder uses a MAAF-approved repairer or glass specialist, MAAF pays the repairer directly with no advance required from the insured (deductible still applies). For other repairers, the insured must provide an original paid invoice to receive reimbursement.

All-accident damage (Dommages tous accidents)

Covered

Covers physical damage to the insured vehicle resulting from collision with any fixed or mobile external object, rollover, accidental fall, civil unrest, riots, and vandalism/malicious acts (with police report). Indemnity equals repair cost up to replacement value; total loss settled at replacement value. A deductible applies as stated in the Conditions Particulières.

Total loss indemnification

Covered

In the event of total loss (vehicle destroyed or stolen and not recovered following a covered event), the indemnity equals the replacement value of the vehicle on the day of the loss (market value as assessed by an expert). The optional 'Indemnisation renforcée' (enhanced indemnification) add-on provides additional compensation above replacement value. For vehicles up to 12 months old, the acquisition value is used (Tiers Essentiel/Essentiel+, Tous risques Confort/Confort+ formulas).

Partial loss / Repair indemnification

Covered

Indemnity equals the cost of repairs up to the replacement value of the vehicle. A depreciation (vétusté) coefficient is applied to tyres and aftermarket accessories. The insured must not commence repairs before MAAF has assessed the damage, otherwise MAAF may refuse cover if prejudiced. A deductible applies as set in the Conditions Particulières. Towing to the nearest capable garage is covered up to 180 EUR on top of the damage guarantee.

Theft and robbery (Garantie Vol)

Covered

Covers theft of the vehicle by mechanical or electronic break-in of the vehicle or its garage, or through violence against the driver/guardian, fraudulent misappropriation (abus de confiance), and payment by false bank cheque. Also covers attempted theft, theft/attempted theft of external or internal vehicle components, and resulting damage. A police report (certificat de dépôt de plainte) is required. If the vehicle is recovered within 20 days, the insured must retake possession; if not recovered within 20 days, indemnity equals replacement value. Recovery costs agreed with MAAF in advance are also covered. Exclusions include theft enabled by unlocked doors/windows or keys left in the vehicle.

Glass breakage (Garantie Bris de glaces)

Covered

Covers repair or replacement of the windscreen, rear window, side windows, glass roof, and front headlight lenses. No deductible applies in the event of windscreen repair (only replacement triggers the deductible). Indemnity includes fitting costs and necessary supplies, less the applicable deductible. No advance of costs required when using a MAAF-approved glass specialist. Included in Tiers Essentiel+, Tous risques Confort, Tous risques Confort+, and Leasing formulas.

Natural perils: natural disasters and weather events

Covered

Two separate coverages: (1) Catastrophes naturelles – activated only after publication in the Journal Officiel of an interministerial decree declaring a state of natural disaster; applies exclusively in metropolitan France and DOM. (2) Événements climatiques – covers storm (wind >100 km/h or causing damage to nearby vehicles/buildings), hail, and unpredictable flooding of the vehicle; applies throughout the contractual territorial scope. Both are included in Tous risques Confort, Confort+, Tiers Essentiel+, and Leasing formulas (Tiers Eco requires the optional additional guarantees pack for catastrophes naturelles).

Vandalism and malicious acts

Covered

Vandalism and malicious acts are covered under the 'Dommages tous accidents' guarantee (§7.9) and under the Fire/Explosion/Attack guarantee (§7.5, when fire or explosion results from vandalism). A police report (certificat de dépôt de plainte) is mandatory. Acts committed by or with the complicity of the insured's spouse, lineal relatives, or employees are excluded. Included in Tous risques Confort and Confort+ formulas; also included in Tous risques Eco (§7.8) for the standard vandalism peril.

Roadside assistance (Assistance accident et panne / panne 0 km)

Covered

MAAF Assistance is available 24/7 (0 800 16 17 18 free from France, +33 5 49 16 17 18 from abroad). Tous risques Confort+ includes 'Assistance accident et panne' (covers breakdown and accident; breakdown only from >50 km from home in France) plus 'Assistance panne 0 km' (covers breakdown even at the insured's domicile). Towing/breakdown intervention covered up to 180 EUR; hotel accommodation up to 50 EUR/person/day for up to 5 days while repairs are made. Loan vehicle up to 20 days is included in Tous risques Confort+. In France, on motorways/ring roads, only police/gendarmerie-mandated operators are authorised; contact them from an emergency phone.

Loan vehicle / Replacement vehicle (Véhicule de prêt jusqu'à 20 jours)

Included in Tous risques Confort+. A loan vehicle equivalent to the insured vehicle (up to category D for passenger cars, or a van up to 10 m³ for commercial vehicles) is provided without deductible and with unlimited mileage when the insured vehicle is stolen or immobilised for more than 24 hours requiring more than 3 hours of labour, following a breakdown with MAAF-organised towing (up to 7 days), a covered damage event (up to 15 days), or theft (up to 20 days). If the rental company cannot provide a vehicle, MAAF pays 40 EUR/day (up to 20 days). Fuel and tolls are at the insured's expense. Not available for mini-vehicles (quadricycles). Available as an option in Tous risques Confort.

Driver personal accident cover (Dommages corporels du conducteur)

Covered

Included in all formulas except Tiers Eco and Tous risques Eco (which include the lesser 'Eco' version with a maximum capital of 500,000 EUR). The standard 'Dommages corporels du conducteur' covers the authorised driver regardless of their responsibility. In case of injury: reimbursement of out-of-pocket medical/hospital/prosthetic/transport costs up to 4,600 EUR; home adaptation costs up to 3,000 EUR; vehicle adaptation up to 5,000 EUR; permanent disability capital from 20,100 EUR (11% rate) to 1,000,000 EUR (100% rate), with a 25% increase if permanent third-party assistance is needed. Minimum disability threshold: >10% (no payment below or at 10%). In case of death: funeral/transport costs up to 3,100 EUR; death capital of 80,000 EUR for spouse; child capital of 460 EUR × months remaining until the child's 21st birthday. Advance on recovery provided if the insured is not at fault.

Key conditions

driver_age_experience_limit

No minimum age or experience condition is explicitly stated in the general conditions for the casco coverage itself. However, a special surcharge (surprime) may be applied for drivers with a licence of less than 3 years or those who cannot prove continuous insurance over the last 3 years. Accompanied driving (AAC) and supervised driving are covered under specific conditions if pre-declared to MAAF. Novice drivers not designated in the Conditions Particulières incur a special deductible (franchise spéciale) in case of a responsible claim.

repair_network_requirements

The policyholder has free choice of professional repairer. MAAF maintains a list of approved repairers; when using an approved repairer, MAAF pays the indemnity directly (no advance required, deductible still applies). For glass damage, approved glass specialists handle the claim declaration. MAAF must be notified before repairs commence; unauthorised repairs may result in denial of cover if MAAF is prejudiced. Repairs must be carried out by a professional automotive repairer.

Coverage applies in France (metropolitan and DOM), EU/EEA member states, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Vatican, San Marino, and countries listed and not crossed out on the valid international insurance card (carte verte). anti_theft_requirements

The theft guarantee (Garantie Vol) requires mechanical or electronic break-in of the vehicle, its steering/ignition systems, the garage, or violence against the driver/guardian. The vehicle must be locked (doors, boot, windows closed). Theft is not covered if the keys are left on/in/under the vehicle, if doors are unlocked, or if there is no break-in evidence. A police report (certificat de dépôt de plainte) is mandatory to trigger the guarantee. No specific anti-theft device requirement is mentioned in the general conditions.

claim_notification_deadline

Claims must be declared as soon as known and at the latest: 2 working days for theft; 30 days after publication of the interministerial decree for natural disasters; 5 working days for all other cases. Failure to meet these deadlines (unless due to force majeure) may result in denial of cover (déchéance) if the delay caused prejudice to MAAF. For legal defence (défense juridique), claims must be declared in writing within 2 months of the refusal or notification of infringement.

Deductible amounts are set in the Conditions Particulières and vary by formula (standard formulas: approx. 250–500 EUR; Eco formulas: approx. 500–900 EUR for damages). When multiple guarantees are triggered by a single claim, each applicable deductible is retained. If the responsible third party is uninsured and insolvent, MAAF reimburses the damage deductible.
