Direct payment

If the optional Werkstattbonus module is chosen for a car, ERGO settles the repair invoice directly and cashlessly with the ERGO-designated partner workshop, including a six-year warranty and collection/return service. Without this module, or if repairs are carried out elsewhere while it is active, the policyholder is reimbursed and a 20% reduction (minimum EUR 100) applies for not using the designated workshop.

Geographic scope

Europe, plus non-European overseas territories of the European Union

Cover generally applies within the geographical borders of Europe and the non-European overseas territories of the EU. Outside Germany, MTPL cover is raised to any higher level required by local law, and the International Insurance Card confirms MTPL cover for the listed non-European countries (except those crossed out). Kfz-Umweltschadenhaftpflicht applies only within the European Economic Area.

Unique selling points

  • Standard waiver of the gross-negligence deduction on Kasko claims in both Smart and Best, going beyond many market policies that charge extra for this.
  • No 'new for old' deduction on replaced parts or repainting, so repair payouts are not reduced for age or wear of the replaced components.
  • All-risks cover (Allgefahrendeckung) for the EV/hybrid traction battery via the optional Elektro Plus module, regardless of the cause of battery damage.
  • Six-year workshop warranty on all work performed under the Werkstattbonus repair-network service.
  • Optional Ersatzfahrzeug Plus provides a same-class replacement car for up to 14 days after a Kasko claim, or a EUR 50/day usage-loss payment if unused.

Coverage limits

Own vehicle accident damage (incl. self-caused)

Conditional

Under Vollkasko (comprehensive), ERGO pays for accident damage to the insured vehicle, including accidents caused by the policyholder or an authorised driver. Indemnity is capped at the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) less any residual value, not a fixed sum insured. Teilkasko does not cover self-caused accidents; this event only activates when Vollkasko is selected.

Source

Total loss / write-off settlement

Covered

On economic total loss, destruction or loss of the vehicle, ERGO pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) minus any residual value. For new vehicles, the new-price value is paid instead within the first 12 months after first registration (extendable to 24 or 36 months with the optional Wertschutz module); for used vehicles up to 4 years old, the purchase price is paid within the first 12 months of the ERGO contract.

Source

Partial damage / repair cost cover

Covered

ERGO pays the costs required for a full and proper repair, up to the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) of the vehicle including co-insured parts and accessories. ERGO waives the usual 'new for old' (Abzug neu für alt) deduction on replaced parts and paintwork.

Source

Theft, robbery, embezzlement and unauthorised use

Covered

Teilkasko (and therefore also Vollkasko) covers theft, robbery, embezzlement and unauthorised use of the vehicle or its co-insured parts, including damage caused while attempting the theft. Key/lock replacement after theft or robbery of a vehicle key is also covered, with no cap stated in the current edition. If the vehicle is recovered within one month of the claim notification, the policyholder must take it back where reasonably possible.

Source

Glass breakage

Covered

Teilkasko covers breakage damage to the vehicle's glazing (front, rear, roof, side and partition windows, mirror glass and light covers), including the cost of damaged bulbs, necessary interior cleaning, and replacement of vignettes affixed to the damaged glass. The agreed deductible is waived when a damaged windscreen is repaired (not replaced) and no other damage requires repair, provided repair costs do not exceed the deductible.

Source

Natural hazards (storm, hail, flood, earthquake, etc.)

Covered

Teilkasko covers direct damage from storm and gale (minimum wind force 8), hail, lightning strike, flood, snow and roof avalanches, earthquake, landslide, ground subsidence (Erdfall) and volcanic eruption, including objects thrown onto or against the vehicle by these forces.

Source

Malicious damage by third parties (vandalism, incl. hacking attack)

Conditional

Vollkasko covers malicious or spiteful acts by persons not authorised to use the vehicle, and, as of the current edition, also damage from a hacking/cyberattack directed immediately at the insured vehicle (not an attack on a manufacturer's server that only indirectly affects the vehicle). Teilkasko does not include this event; it only activates when Vollkasko is selected.

Source

Breakdown / roadside assistance package (Kfz-Schutzbrief)

Optional

Optional add-on for vehicles registered in Germany, covering roadside breakdown repair (up to EUR 150), towing (up to EUR 250), vehicle recovery, rental of an equivalent vehicle (up to 7 days at up to EUR 50/day), overnight accommodation, return/onward travel costs, and assistance abroad including medical repatriation and legal/interpreter support.

Source

Replacement vehicle after a claim (Ersatzfahrzeug Plus)

€50

Optional add-on: after a covered Kasko claim, ERGO arranges a same-class replacement vehicle in Germany for up to 14 days, or pays a usage-loss compensation of EUR 50 per day (max. 14 days) if the vehicle is not used; not paid for pure glass-breakage claims. In Vollkasko, this module also extends cover to accidents abroad with a foreign-insured vehicle (Auslandsschadenschutz).

Source

Driver / occupant personal accident cover

Excluded

No personal accident insurance for the driver or occupants is offered as part of this Kasko product; the selectable modules relate to vehicle damage, breakdown assistance and mobility, not to bodily injury of the driver.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

No general minimum age or licence-duration applies to Kasko cover itself. The optional Rabattschutz (no-claims-class protection) module can only be taken out if the youngest driver has turned 23 and both Kfz-Haftpflicht and Vollkasko are already rated at SF-Klasse 4 or higher; all persons who drive the vehicle, even occasionally, must be declared (Fahrerkreis).

Repair network requirements

By default, policyholders may choose their own repair workshop. If the optional Werkstattbonus module is selected for a car, ERGO designates the workshop; the policyholder must have repairs carried out there to receive benefits (6-year warranty, collection/return service, replacement vehicle). Using a non-designated workshop while this module is active reduces the payout by 20%, at least EUR 100.

Territorial scope

Cover generally applies within the geographical borders of Europe and the non-European overseas territories of the EU. For accidents abroad involving a foreign-insured vehicle, the optional Ersatzfahrzeug Plus module extends Vollkasko cover (Auslandsschadenschutz) and waives the deductible.

Anti-theft requirements

The conditions do not impose a specific technical anti-theft device (e.g. alarm or immobiliser) as a precondition for theft cover. The policyholder must, however, notify the police without delay in the event of theft, fire or a collision with an animal, and report the theft or loss of the vehicle or its keys to ERGO in text form.

Claim notification deadline

Every claim event that may lead to a payment must be reported to ERGO without undue delay ('unverzüglich'). Theft of the vehicle, its parts or a key must be reported in text form (letter, fax, email). Damage expected not to exceed EUR 500 may be settled by the policyholder directly; otherwise ERGO must be informed immediately.

Deductible rules

An agreed deductible (Selbstbeteiligung) is deducted from every claim payment and applies separately per insured vehicle and per claim. It is waived for windscreen (not full-glass) repairs where the repair cost does not exceed the deductible, and for Vollkasko claims arising from accidents abroad with a foreign-insured vehicle that is fully liable.
