Direct payment

Generali pays the insured directly after determining liability and loss amount; payment within two weeks of determination. Own vehicle damage (accident)

Covered

Covers damage to the insured vehicle caused by an accident (external sudden mechanical force). Excludes braking, operational or pure structural damage, material fatigue, and damage solely from driver operation errors. Compensation up to vehicle replacement value (repair) or up to the new price of the vehicle as maximum indemnity. In Komfortschutz/Optimal, the new-for-old deduction does not apply to passenger cars.

Total loss compensation

Covered

At total loss (repair costs exceed replacement value), Generali pays the replacement value minus salvage value. For new vehicles (PKW, excl. taxis/rental cars) within 18 months (Komfortschutz) or 24 months (Vollkasko Premium) of first registration: new price compensation instead of replacement value. For used vehicles within same periods up to 48 months old at time of first registration on policyholder: purchase price instead of replacement value. Maximum indemnity capped at new price of the vehicle.

Partial loss / repair costs

Covered

Covers repair costs for vehicle damage caused by insured events (accident, vandalism, natural perils, fire, theft-related damage, etc.). If fully and professionally repaired: costs up to replacement value (with proof of invoice). If not fully repaired: up to replacement value minus salvage value. Towing costs to the nearest suitable workshop are also covered. New-for-old deductions do not apply to PKW under Komfortschutz/Optimal.

Theft and robbery

Covered

Covered under Teilkasko (partial casco): theft, robbery, surrender due to armed extortion, and unauthorized use (where perpetrator has no right whatsoever to use the vehicle). Embezzlement covered only if vehicle was not given to the perpetrator for their own use, for sale, or under reservation of title (in standard coverage). Under Vollkasko Premium, embezzlement is also covered if vehicle was given to perpetrator for their own interest or non-commercial sale. If vehicle lacks self-arming electronic immobilizer at time of theft, compensation reduced by 10%.

Glass damage (Glasbruch)

Covered

Covered under Teilkasko: breakage damage to vehicle glazing (glass and plastic panels such as windscreen, rear window, roof glass, side windows, mirror glass, and lamp covers). Glass and plastic parts of measurement, assistance, camera and information systems, solar modules, displays, monitors and bulbs are not considered glazing. Consequential damages are not covered (standard). Under Komfortschutz/Optimal, interior cleaning costs and damage to bulbs caused by glass breakage are also covered. If a windscreen needs replacement, environmental sticker replacement costs are included. If glass is repaired rather than replaced, deductible is waived.

Natural perils (storm, hail, lightning, flood, avalanche, debris flow)

Covered

Covered under Teilkasko: direct impact of storm (wind force 8+), hail, lightning, flood, or avalanches on the vehicle. Under Komfortschutz/Optimal and all other vehicle types: additionally covers direct impact of roof avalanches (snow masses falling from house roofs, including icicles and ice plates) and debris flows (Murgang). Also includes damage from objects thrown against the vehicle by these natural forces. Excludes damage resulting from driver behavior triggered by these natural forces.

Vandalism (malicious damage)

Covered under Vollkasko: malicious or intentional damage by persons not authorized to use the vehicle. Persons authorized by the owner/keeper (e.g. workshop, hotel staff) or those in a close relationship to the entitled person (e.g. employees, family/household members) are not covered under this clause. Available only in Vollkasko (full comprehensive) and above; not covered in Teilkasko alone.

Roadside assistance (Kfz-Schutzbriefversicherung)

Optional

The roadside assistance (Schutzbrief) is an optional add-on to the casco policy (or MTPL with Schutzbriefleistungen). Covers: roadside repair by breakdown vehicle up to EUR 300 (incl. small parts), towing up to EUR 300 (offset against breakdown costs), separate luggage/cargo transport up to EUR 300, vehicle recovery costs unlimited. For accidents/theft where vehicle cannot be repaired same or next day: rental car organized (up to 7 days / EUR 70/day if self-organized; up to 1 month / EUR 70/day for theft). For breakdowns/accidents/theft 30+ km from home: additional benefits including travel back or onward journey (1st class rail or equivalent), hotel accommodation up to 3 nights at EUR 85/person/night, vehicle storage up to 2 weeks. Includes false fueling coverage up to EUR 2,000 and key loss coverage up to EUR 500/year. No deductible applies to Schutzbrief claims. Phone call costs reimbursed up to EUR 25 per claim.

Replacement vehicle (Mietwagen)

Optional

Replacement vehicle is covered as part of the optional Kfz-Schutzbriefversicherung (roadside assistance). In case of accident or theft where the vehicle cannot be made roadworthy on the damage day or the following day: Generali organizes a rental car and covers costs up to the duration of proper repair. If the policyholder self-organizes the rental: up to 7 days at EUR 70/day. In case of theft: up to 1 month at EUR 70/day. In case of total loss: max EUR 490 regardless of duration. Under WerkstattservicePLUS (workshop binding): a replacement car of the smallest class is provided for the full duration of repair without the above daily limits.

Driver accident insurance (FahrerPLUS)

The FahrerPLUS Versicherung is an optional add-on covering personal injury to the authorized driver and passengers. Benefits are determined by actual personal damage (not pre-set sums), calculated as if a third party were liable, applying German private law. Includes medical costs, loss of earnings, survivor's annuity, pain and suffering. Coverage limit equals the MTPL personal injury sum insured. Excludes injuries from criminal acts, psychic reactions, disc damage (unless accident is the predominant cause), racing events, and earthquake/war. Available as additional module with optional Unfallassistent (rehabilitation coordinator for 3 years adults / 5 years children).

Key conditions

driver_age_experience_limit

No minimum driver age is specified in the casco policy terms (AKB). The policy does not restrict coverage based on driver age. However, the first classification for new policies starts at SF class 0 (no claims history) or SF class 1/2 (if specific conditions met). A special rule for driving license holders allows upgrading from SF 0 to a higher class after 3 years of license ownership if the policy has been claim-free.

repair_network_requirements

Under WerkstattservicePLUS (workshop binding, agreed at contract inception): Generali selects the repair workshop from its partner network. If the policyholder independently selects a workshop without prior contact to Generali, reimbursement is reduced to 85% of the calculated repair costs. Additional services (transport to/from workshop, replacement vehicle, interior/exterior cleaning, free return transport within 50 km) are forfeited if the policyholder's own workshop is used. Workshop binding does not apply when: total loss is determined, or the loss occurred outside Germany and repair is not performed in Germany. Without workshop binding, the policyholder may freely choose any workshop.

territorial_scope

Coverage applies within the geographical borders of Europe as well as non-European territories belonging to the European Union's area of application (per AKB A.2.4). This includes all EU member states and their overseas territories within the EU's jurisdiction.

anti_theft_requirements

For PKW, taxis, rental cars, self-drive hire vehicles, and camping vehicles: if the vehicle was not equipped with a self-arming electronic immobilizer at the time of theft, indemnification for destruction or loss due to theft is reduced by 10%. The deductible rules remain unaffected by this reduction.

claim_notification_deadline

General obligation: every loss event must be reported to Generali within one week (E.1.1.1). For vehicle theft or theft of insured parts: immediate written notification required (deviating from general rule, per E.1.3.1). Police report required if theft loss, fire loss, or loss from animal collision exceeds EUR 500 (E.1.3.3). Before beginning repair or disposal of the vehicle: Generali's instructions must be obtained where circumstances permit (E.1.3.2). For theft, robbery, arson, explosion and wildlife collision losses: immediate police notification is required. Failure to comply with notification duties may lead to reduction or denial of coverage.

deductible_rules

If a deductible is agreed, it is deducted separately for each insured vehicle and each loss event (AKB A.2.5.9.1). Exception: if glass damage is remedied by repair (not replacement), repair costs are reimbursed without applying the deductible (A.2.5.9.2). Under Vollkasko Premium, the deductible does not apply to mobile navigation devices (A.2.5.9.4). For Schutzbrief (roadside assistance) claims within the casco policy, no deductible applies (A.2.5.9.3). The amount of the deductible is specified in the insurance certificate; typical range is EUR 150 to EUR 1,000 depending on vehicle and tariff selection.
