R+V
R+V is a motor third-party liability insurance for the DE market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
In the event of a claim, R+V settles justified third-party liability claims directly in the name of the policyholder. Unjustified claims are defended at R+V's own cost. R+V advances payment to the policyholder if the policyholder contacts R+V first after a loss event, even if a third-party liability insurer would be primarily liable.

Unique selling points
- All three tariff tiers include a 100 Mio. EUR aggregate cover limit, with the premium tier providing up to 16 Mio. EUR per injured person – well above the German statutory minimum.
- The Leistungsverbesserungsgarantie (performance improvement guarantee) ensures that all policy improvements for new contracts are automatically applied to existing policyholders at no extra cost.
- The optional Fahrerschutz-Versicherung covers the driver's own personal injury losses up to 20 Mio. EUR per claim even in at-fault accidents, closing a gap not covered by standard MTPL.
- Round-the-clock claims service and the ability to conclude, manage and cancel the policy entirely online, including instant issuance of the electronic insurance confirmation (eVB number).
- In the KfzPolice premium, the Mallorca-Police covers driving foreign vehicles in Germany and abroad (including within Germany), and no-claims discount protection (Rabattschutz) is available from SF-Klasse 10 onwards to prevent downgrading after a single at-fault claim.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability (per loss event, with sub-limit per injured person of 16 Mio. EUR in premium tier)
Covered
R+V covers compensation claims for personal injury or death caused by use of the insured vehicle. In the KfzPolice premium tier, the overall limit is 100 Mio. EUR per loss event with a sub-limit of 16 Mio. EUR per injured person. The insurer also defends unjustified claims at its own expense and acts with full settlement authority (Regulierungsvollmacht).
SourceProperty damage and financial loss liability (pauschal 100 Mio. EUR per loss event)
Covered
R+V covers claims for property damage and pure financial losses (not connected to personal or property damage) caused by use of the insured vehicle. The overall cover limit is 100 Mio. EUR per loss event, applicable across all three tariff tiers (classic, comfort, premium). Multiple temporally connected claims of the same cause count as one loss event.
SourceLegal defence within MTPL (claim defence)
Covered
Unjustified third-party liability claims are defended by R+V at no cost to the policyholder as part of the core MTPL coverage. A separate Verkehrs-Rechtsschutz (traffic legal protection insurance) providing active legal defence in traffic-law matters is available as an optional add-on without waiting period. Coverage applies in Europe, Mediterranean coastal states, Canary Islands and Madeira, and worldwide under certain conditions.
SourceInternational Insurance Card (Green Card)
Covered
If R+V has issued the International Insurance Card (Green Card), the MTPL cover in the KfzPolice premium extends to non-European countries listed on the card, provided their designation is not crossed out. The scope of cover in visited countries is at least the level of the policyholder's own contract.
SourceRoadside Assistance / Schutzbrief (optional add-on)
Optional
The Schutzbrief is an optional add-on providing organisational and financial assistance in the event of a breakdown or accident of the insured vehicle. It covers costs for restoring roadworthiness on site (up to 150 EUR if self-organised; unlimited if R+V organises), towing, vehicle recovery, emergency locksmith (up to 100 EUR), rental car in the event of an accident (up to 70 EUR/day, max. 7 days), a breakdown lump sum (35 EUR/day, max. 7 days), and assistance in the event of illness, injury or death on a trip 50+ km from home. Cover applies within Europe and non-European EU territories. A SchutzbriefPlus (including foreign accident insurance) is also available.
SourceDriver personal injury protection / Fahrerschutz-Versicherung (optional add-on)
Optional
The Fahrerschutz-Versicherung is an optional add-on available together with MTPL. It covers personal injury losses of the authorised driver resulting from an accident while driving the insured vehicle (including at-fault and force-majeure events) up to 20 Mio. EUR per loss event under German law, including loss of earnings, disability-friendly conversion costs, pain-and-suffering damages (minimum 5-day hospital stay required), survivor's pension and bereavement payment. Third-party claims (e.g. social insurance carriers) against R+V are excluded. Cover applies within Europe and non-European EU territories.
SourcePassenger accident coverage (included in MTPL for bodily injury of vehicle occupants)
Covered
Personal injury claims of vehicle occupants caused by use of the insured vehicle are covered under the MTPL policy up to the agreed coverage limits (100 Mio. EUR overall, 16 Mio. EUR per person in the premium tier). Occupants can assert claims directly against R+V. A separate Insassen-Unfallversicherung (occupant accident insurance paying fixed sums for invalidity/death) is listed as an available product type in the IPID but is not part of the KfzPolice premium scope described in the KDP0722 T&C; it is not confirmed as included in the online KfzPolice product. The driver (as opposed to other occupants) is not protected under MTPL for own personal injury – this is covered by the optional Fahrerschutz-Versicherung.

territorial_scope
MTPL cover applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and non-European territories forming part of the European Union. With the International Insurance Card (Green Card), cover extends to non-European countries listed thereon (where not crossed out). The Mallorca-Police (cover for driving foreign vehicles) applies in the KfzPolice premium both within Germany and in European/EU-overseas territories. The Schutzbrief and Fahrerschutz-Versicherung also apply within Europe and non-European EU territories.
green_card_rules
R+V issues the International Insurance Card (Green Card) upon request. If issued, MTPL cover extends to non-European countries listed on the card (where the country designation is not crossed out). The scope of cover in the visited country is at least equal to the minimum required by local law but no less than the contractual cover. Cover for driving foreign vehicles under A.1.1.6 (Mallorca-Police) does not extend to non-European countries via the Green Card; a separate reference applies for that.
driver_restrictions
The vehicle may only be used by authorised drivers (persons using the vehicle with the knowledge and consent of the owner/holder). The policyholder, holder and owner must not knowingly permit unauthorised drivers to use the vehicle. The driver must hold the required driving licence for use on public roads. Driving under the influence of alcohol or intoxicants is prohibited. Participation in unauthorised racing events is forbidden. For the Fahrerschutz-Versicherung, the driver must also wear the mandatory seat belt.
claim_notification_deadline
Every loss event that may result in a payment by R+V must be reported within one week. If a claim is asserted against the policyholder out of court, it must be reported within one week; for claims under the Environmental Damage Act, immediately. Judicially asserted claims (e.g. lawsuit, dunning notice) must be reported without delay. Police investigation must be reported without delay, even if the loss has already been notified. For vehicle theft or parts theft, the notification must be made immediately in text form.
bonus_malus_rules
In both MTPL and comprehensive insurance (Vollkasko), the premium is determined by the no-claims class (Schadenfreiheitsklasse, SF-Klasse) based on the claims history. Classes range from M (highest premium rate) through SF 0, SF 1/2 up to SF 55 (lowest rate). The contract is reclassified on 1 January each year. A claim-free year results in upgrading to the next better class; a claims-affected year triggers downgrading per the applicable table. Claims buy-back (Schadenrückkauf) is possible in MTPL if the indemnity paid does not exceed 1,000 EUR and is refunded within 6 months of notification. In the KfzPolice premium, claims buy-back is also available in Vollkasko. An optional no-claims discount protection (Rabattschutz) is available for KfzPolice comfort and premium at minimum SF 10, protecting one claim per year from downgrading.
