Key conditions

Territorial scope

Compulsory Civil Liability is valid in Greece, EU/EEA countries, and countries with Motor Insurers' Bureau agreements. Accident care and roadside assistance are provided in Greece and specific European and Mediterranean countries per the cooperating company's coverage table included in the general and special terms. All other coverages (except civil liability and roadside assistance) are valid only within Greek territory.

Green card rules

A Green Card is not required when travelling to EEA countries (all 28 EU member states, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein), Andorra, and Serbia, provided the policy is issued with Latin-character details. For travel to other Green Card system countries, the policyholder must obtain the Green Card from Euroins Greece prior to departure. The Green Card covers civil liability only and does not extend optional coverages such as fire, theft, or mixed insurance.

Driver restrictions

No specific driver age or licence-duration restrictions are stated in the retrievable sources for the passenger car MTPL product. The policy is linked to the insured vehicle. The Greek bonus-malus system applies: all new drivers start at category 10; a claim caused by the policyholder increases the category by 2 (raising the premium), while claim-free years reduce the category (lowering the premium). A no-claims bonus earned abroad may be transferred to a Greek policy with written evidence from the previous insurer.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify Euroins of an accident/claim by any appropriate means (letter, fax, email) in accordance with Bank of Greece Executive Board Act No. 87/05.04.2016. Upon receipt of the compensation claim, the insurance company of the at-fault driver is obliged to respond within three (3) months with either: (a) a written, reasoned compensation offer where liability is not disputed and damage is assessed, or (b) a written, reasoned refusal where liability is disputed, not yet established, or damage is not fully assessed.

Bonus-malus rules

Greece operates a mandatory bonus-malus system. All new policyholders start at category 10. A claim caused by the policyholder (for which a claim is made) increases the bonus-malus category by 2 levels, raising the premium. Claim-free years progressively reduce the category, lowering the premium. The lowest attainable category is 1 (some insurers stop at 2). Bonus-malus protection coverage may be optionally purchased to prevent category escalation after a claim. A no-claims bonus accumulated in another country may be transferred to a Greek policy on production of written evidence from the previous insurer.
