Direct payment

Interasco pays third-party claimants directly in accordance with Greek law (PD 237/1986 as amended) and Bank of Greece Executive Committee Act 87/5.4.2016. The insurer must submit a reasoned offer or refusal within three months of receiving the compensation claim. Payment must be made within ten days of the offer.

Geographic scope

Greece and EU/EEA member states under Green Card system

Greek territory for mandatory MTPL and optional covers; EU/EEA and Green Card countries for third-party liability. Green Card required for countries outside the standard territorial scope.

Unique selling points

  • All three tiers include Accident Care (Φροντίδα Ατυχήματος) and accident towing via Mondial Assistance at no extra cost – a service not always bundled at zero cost by competitors.
  • Airbag damage coverage is offered as an optional add-on across all tiers – a feature rarely available from other Greek motor insurers.
  • Instant online policy issuance 24/7 via insuranceonline.interasco.gr with immediate email delivery, no agent visit required.
  • Interasco belongs to the Harel Group, one of Israel's largest insurance and financial conglomerates, providing strong solvency backing to Greek policyholders.
  • Uninsured vehicle material damage coverage (€30,000) is included as standard in the Easy Drive entry-level package, not just in premium tiers.

Passenger Accident Coverage

Not offered

Separate passenger accident coverage is not explicitly offered as a distinct coverage in the Interasco motor policy. Third-party bodily injury liability covers injured passengers as third parties. The personal accident cover (driver/owner) does not explicitly extend to passengers beyond the vehicle owner co-travelling.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Mandatory third-party liability covers Greece, all EU/EEA member states, and countries whose National Bureaux of International Insurance apply Section III of the Unified Agreement (Rethymno Agreement 2002). For other countries outside this scope, a Green Card must be issued upon prior written request and additional premium. Optional coverages (glass breakage, own damage, fire, theft, roadside assistance) apply only within Greece.

Green card rules

Green Card (International Insurance Certificate) is required for travel to countries outside the automatic territorial scope. It must be requested in writing by the policyholder or insured before travel and is issued by way of a special endorsement with payment of additional premium. Failure to comply makes the owner, holder and driver jointly and severally liable towards the insurer and the International Insurance Bureau.

Driver restrictions

All insured persons must hold a valid driving licence for the category of the insured vehicle. Persons who obtained the vehicle by theft or force, and those who caused an accident intentionally, are excluded. The insurer reserves the right of recourse against the insured for accidents caused by drivers under 23 years of age or with a licence held for less than one year, if this was not disclosed at policy inception and the corresponding additional premium was not paid.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder/insured must notify the insurer in writing within eight (8) days of becoming aware of a loss event. They must also forward any judicial or extrajudicial documents received in connection with the loss within eight (8) days. No admission of liability to third parties is permitted without the insurer's written consent.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums are determined based on vehicle use, horsepower, bonus-malus system, claims history, vehicle registration location, driver's age, date of licence acquisition, and other parameters as per the company's applicable tariffs. The insurer retains the right to adjust the premium and policy terms at the end of each agreed insurance period. Payment of the adjusted premium by the policyholder/insured constitutes express acceptance of the new premium and policy terms.
