Geographic scope

Greece (nationwide)

Compulsory third-party liability cover is valid in Greece, all EU/EEA member states, and other countries whose National Bureaux of International Insurance have signed the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement (Green Card countries). All other optional coverages apply within Greece only, except roadside assistance which also covers Europe.

Unique selling points

  • 24/7 accident care and roadside assistance reachable via a single number (1158), covering both Greece and Europe.
  • Greece's only purely cooperative insurer, backed by European cooperative partners Unipol (Italy), Macif (France) and P&V (Belgium), combining local roots with international expertise.
  • Bonus/Malus protection available as an add-on, shielding renewal premiums even after two at-fault accidents in a single policy year.
  • Nationwide network of over 1,300 sales points providing accessible face-to-face service across all Greek regions.
  • Special premium discounts of 5%–35% available to qualifying categories such as farmers, cooperative members, and other designated groups.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

The compulsory MTPL cover is valid in Greece, EU/EEA member states, and other countries whose National Bureaux of International Insurance are bound by the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement (Green Card system). All other optional coverages (except roadside assistance, which also covers Europe) are valid within Greece only.

Green card rules

The Green Card (International Insurance Certificate) is issued free of charge and covers third-party liability abroad. Although not mandatory for EEA countries, Syndea recommends policyholders always request its issuance when travelling abroad with their vehicle.

Driver restrictions

The policy covers the policyholder and any lawful holder/driver of the insured vehicle as set out in the General Terms for Compulsory Motor Third-Party Liability Insurance. Specific driver age or licence restrictions are governed by the policy schedule and applicable Greek law.

Claim notification deadline

In the event of an accident involving one or more vehicles, the insured can call 1158 (24/7) to have a Syndea accident care partner attend the scene. The policyholder is obliged to notify the insurer in writing of any change of address or relevant policy details. Specific claim notification deadlines are set out in the General Terms for Compulsory Motor Third-Party Liability Insurance.

Bonus-malus rules

A Bonus/Malus protection coverage is available as an add-on: it protects the level of renewal premiums even if the insured causes two accidents within the 12-month insurance period.

Policy specifics

Three-Package Structure

The IX Επιβατικό product is offered in 3 packages. The individual package names and the specific coverages included or excluded in each package are not enumerated in the available Syndea sources. Optional coverages (legal defence, roadside assistance, personal accident) are activated per the insured amount or the word 'ΙΣΧΥΕΙ' appearing on the policy schedule.

Coverage Limits Defer to Statutory Minimums

Both the product page and the General Terms state that bodily injury and property damage liability are covered 'up to the limits prescribed by applicable legislation' without specifying a numeric amount. The exact limit is set on the individual policy schedule.

Supplementary Coverages Activation

Supplementary coverages (beyond compulsory MTPL) are valid only when the insured amount or the word 'ΙΣΧΥΕΙ' appears in the corresponding field on the policy schedule, as stated in the General Terms.

Cooperative Insurer Structure

Syndea (formerly Syneteristiki) is the only purely cooperative insurance company in Greece, founded in 1978. 50.55% of share capital is held by Greek cooperative associations and banks; 49.45% by European cooperative organisations (Unipol, Macif, P&V). The cooperative structure may influence policyholder participation and governance.
