Key conditions

Territorial scope

MTPL liability coverage is valid within Greece, all EU member states, EEA member states, and all other countries whose National International Insurance Offices commit to apply Section III of the Consolidated Agreement. Optional coverages apply only within Greek territory unless there is a prior written agreement to the contrary. Legal protection applies exclusively within Greek territory. For travel outside the EEA, the insured vehicle must carry a valid Green Card.

Green card rules

A vehicle habitually stationed in Greece that travels abroad must carry a valid international insurance certificate (Green Card) covering at least EU/EEA states and countries participating in the Consolidated Agreement (Section III). For travel in third countries outside the EEA, the Green Card must be valid in those specific countries under Section II of the Consolidated Agreement. If this obligation is not met, the owner, keeper, and driver are jointly and severally liable to the company and the International Insurance Bureau. Policies for which a Green Card has been issued cannot be cancelled until the Green Card expires.

Driver restrictions

Coverage applies to the owner, keeper, any licensed driver, or person authorised to drive the insured vehicle, provided they hold a valid driving licence for the vehicle category. Persons who have taken possession of the vehicle by theft or force are excluded. If the vehicle is driven by a driver under 23 years of age (calculated from 1 January of birth year) without declaration and payment of the applicable surcharge at inception, the company has no liability unless the insured pays an additional premium surcharge of 30% (amateur licence) or 60% (professional licence) immediately upon claim notification. Similarly, if the driver obtained their licence within the 12 months preceding the accident without the applicable surcharge being paid, a 30% surcharge applies.

Claim notification deadline

The insured must notify the company in writing, without culpable delay and at the latest within eight (8) working days of learning of the damaging event (Art. 10.1 of the General Terms). The insured must also forward any judicial or extrajudicial documents relating to the event within eight (8) days. For driver personal accident, notification must occur within three (3) working days. For the 24x365 personal cover, notification must occur within eight (8) working days.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums are determined by a combination of factors including vehicle use, engine displacement, taxable horsepower, operating area, number of seats, type, vehicle age, date of obtaining driving licence, age, gender, driving experience, occupation of insured and/or driver, and claims history (number of losses). The company reserves the right to adjust premiums and modify calculation criteria at each policy renewal. The insured has a bonus protection benefit included in the BASIC product (applies for one loss per year).
