Coverage limits
Own Damage Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
In addition to Third Party Fire and Theft benefits, Comprehensive cover pays for loss or damage to your own car, its accessories and spare parts, caused by an accident or vandalism, generally settled up to the car's market value at the time of loss.
Total Loss Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
If the car is declared a statutory write-off, Allianz settles the claim and will also pay the un-expired portion of motor tax if you cannot obtain a refund from the Licensing Authority.
Partial / Accidental Damage Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
Repair costs for accidental damage or vandalism to the insured car are covered under Comprehensive cover, subject to policy excess and terms.
Theft Cover
Covered
Depending on your cover type, you are covered if your car is stolen, damaged by fire or accidentally damaged; a car reported missing must remain so for 14 days before Allianz treats it as a theft loss, unless Garda confirmation accelerates settlement.
Windscreen Cover
€425
Windscreen Cover is an optional extra available with both Third Party Fire & Theft and Comprehensive cover. It includes all glass in the car (excluding panoramic roof glass on post 01/07/2025 policies). If Allianz's Aligned Windscreen Repairers are used there is no limit on repair/replacement cost and no excess applies; if a non-aligned repairer is used payment is limited to €425.
Storm / Flood / Natural Perils Cover
Covered
No limit stated
No Allianz Ireland-specific policy wording naming storm or flood perils was found in the reviewed sources; industry guidance confirms such damage is generally covered under comprehensive motor policies, but Allianz's own documents describe this cover generically as 'accidental damage'.
Vandalism Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
In addition to the cover provided by Third Party, Fire and Theft, with Comprehensive cover you are also covered for loss or damage to your car caused by vandalism, and its accessories and spare parts while in or on the car.
Breakdown Assistance
Optional
Allianz Breakdown Assistance is an optional extra requiring additional premium, covering mechanical/electrical breakdown, punctures, lock-outs, wrong fuel and running out of fuel/battery. It is only available while driving in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
Emergency Service Replacement Car
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
The 24/7 Emergency Service (available to Comprehensive policyholders in the event of an accident, and to all policyholders for fire/theft/attempted theft) includes towing to an approved garage and a free replacement car for up to 7 days while yours is being repaired (14 days if the car was stolen).
Personal Accident Cover
€15,000
Personal Accident cover is an optional extra available with either Third Party Fire & Theft or Comprehensive cover. It pays up to €15,000 for death or serious bodily injury (loss of sight, loss of limb, permanent total disablement) to the driver or an occupant following an accident involving the insured car, plus €60 per week for up to 50 weeks for temporary total disablement and €150 per week for up to 10 weeks for medical, surgical and hospital fees.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
No universal minimum age is published for the standard policy; optional extras carry their own age limits, e.g. 'Driving Other Cars' requires the policyholder to be 25 or over, and 'Open Driving' cover requires drivers aged 30 to 70 with a clean licence.
Repair network requirements
Claims processed through Allianz's Aligned Repairer/Windscreen Repairer network avoid excess charges and payment caps (e.g. unlimited windscreen repair cost); using a non-aligned repairer limits windscreen payment to €425, and a courtesy car is generally only provided when Allianz's choice of repairer is used.
Territorial scope
Cover applies while driving in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, and automatically extends for up to 60 days per policy year to EU countries (minimum legal cover only thereafter); Breakdown Assistance is limited to the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
Anti-theft requirements
There is no stated mandatory anti-theft device requirement in the reviewed sources; however, stolen keys must be reported to An Garda Síochána before a claim for replacement locks or keys can be processed.
Claim notification deadline
Policyholders and insured drivers must advise Allianz at their first opportunity of any incident that could lead to a claim; a car reported missing must remain missing for 14 days before Allianz will treat it as stolen, unless Garda confirmation of total loss allows earlier settlement.
Deductible rules
The standard motor excess is €300, though this may vary depending on the type of loss or type of policy; no excess applies to a valid windscreen claim and it does not affect the No Claims Bonus.
