Direct payment

AXA settles repairs directly with its approved repairer network; if the policyholder chooses their own repairer, AXA will only pay what its engineer estimates the repair would have cost at an AXA approved repairer if that figure is lower than the chosen garage's quote, and no temporary replacement car is provided in that case.

Geographic scope

Republic of Ireland

Cover applies in the Republic of Ireland and the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands), with full policy cover extended to Europe (EU member states, EEA states Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and Switzerland) for up to 90 days during the period of insurance.

Unique selling points

  • No claims discount rises to a maximum of 75% after five or more years of claim-free driving.
  • Unlimited windscreen and glass repair or replacement cover when an AXA approved repairer is used.
  • Policy excess is reduced by €100 when repairs are carried out at an AXA approved repairer.
  • Comprehensive cover includes free misfuelling assistance, draining and refuelling the tank with up to 10 litres of the correct fuel.
  • Wall charger protection up to €650 for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, plus a Lifetime No Claims Discount for customers with 10+ claim-free years.

Coverage limits

Accidental damage to your car

Covered

Only in Comprehensive

Under Comprehensive cover, AXA pays for accidental or malicious loss of or damage to the car and its accessories, up to the car's market value (cost of replacing the car with one of the same make, model, age and similar mileage); it does not pay more than the market value.

Source

Total loss / salvage settlement

Covered

Only in Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft

If the car is written off, stolen and not recovered within 28 days, or damaged so repairs would cost more than 60% of the manufacturer's retail list price, AXA settles the claim by replacing the car or paying its market value (or purchase price if lower); the car then becomes AXA's property. A new-for-old replacement applies only if the car is under one year old and owned/hired from new.

Source

Partial loss / repair cover

Covered

Only in Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft

AXA will repair the car at an AXA approved repairer or a repairer of the policyholder's choice, or replace lost/damaged items if cheaper than repair; recycled or non-manufacturer parts of similar standard may be used, and a €200 limit applies to towage/storage fees if notified within 48 hours.

Source

Theft or attempted theft

Covered

Only in Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft

The Fire and Theft Cover subsection pays for loss of or damage to the car (not exceeding market value) caused by theft or attempted theft; this subsection is available under both Third Party Fire & Theft and Comprehensive cover levels.

Broken glass cover

unlimited

Only in Comprehensive

Section 2 covers repair or replacement of damaged/broken windscreen, window or sunroof glass and resulting bodywork scratches. Cover is unlimited if an AXA-approved repairer is used; if the policyholder's own repairer is used, cover is limited to €400 for a replacement or €50 for a repair. No excess applies if the glass is repaired rather than replaced.

Natural perils (storm, flood, fire, lightning)

Covered

Only in Comprehensive

There is no dedicated natural-perils section; storm, flood, fire and lightning damage are generally covered as accidental damage under the Comprehensive Accidental Damage subsection (or under Fire cover for fire specifically), up to market value. Earthquake is expressly excluded under General Exception 7, regardless of cover level.

Malicious damage / vandalism

Covered

Only in Comprehensive

The Accidental Damage subsection explicitly covers accidental or malicious loss of or damage to the car, up to its market value, for Comprehensive policyholders.

Car and Key Rescue (roadside assistance)

Optional

Section 12 Car and Key Rescue is an optional cover; the policy schedule shows whether it has been purchased. It provides 24-hour roadside/driveway assistance, towing, message-passing, completing-the-journey benefits and Lost Key Insurance up to €1,500, administered by AXA Assistance (Ireland) Limited.

Replacement car

Optional

Only in Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft

Section 10 Replacement Car is shown on the schedule only if purchased. It applies to claims under Section 1 for Comprehensive, or Third Party Fire & Theft where damage is by fire/theft. A Courtesy Car (economy class ~1.2 litre) is provided while the car is repaired by an AXA approved repairer; if the car is written off, a Hire Car is provided for up to 14 days (extendable if the policyholder is not at fault).

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

Optional 'Open Driving' cover extends to drivers aged 25 to 70 holding a correct-category full licence from a European country or a recognised licence-exchange state. No cover applies to any driver not meeting the conditions of their licence or learner permit.

Repair network requirements

Using an AXA approved repairer gives an unlimited glass claim, a courtesy car during repair, and a €100 reduction in the policy excess. Using a non-approved repairer limits glass cover to €400 (replacement) or €50 (repair), removes the temporary replacement car entitlement, and caps AXA's payment at what its engineer estimates the approved-repairer cost would have been if lower.

Territorial scope

Cover applies in the Republic of Ireland and the UK (including Isle of Man and Channel Islands); full policy cover extends to Europe (EU, EEA states, Switzerland) for up to 90 days per period of insurance, though Car and Key Rescue and 'driving other cars' do not extend to Europe.

Anti-theft requirements

The policyholder must keep the car locked with security devices activated, and windows/sunroofs fully closed, when unattended; theft claims are excluded if keys or a keyless-entry system were left unsecured or in/on an unattended car, and tyres and NCT must meet legal requirements.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder or their legal representative must give full details to the claims helpline within 48 hours of any event that could lead to a claim; a stolen car must be reported immediately to AXA and to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

Deductible rules

The excess shown on the schedule applies to Accidental Damage claims unless caused by fire, lightning, explosion, theft or attempted theft. The excess can be reduced by €100 by using an AXA approved repairer, and does not apply to Replacement Locks, Personal Belongings, Child Car Seats, Wall Charger Protection or Misfuelling claims.
