OUTsurance Designated Activity Company (OUTsurance DAC), trading as OUTsurance
OUTsurance
OUTsurance is a motor casco insurance for the Ireland market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
Claims are settled at OUTsurance's discretion by repairing the car through an Approved Repairer, replacing the lost/damaged item, or paying a cash amount; using an Approved Repairer allows costs (e.g. glass repairs) to be paid in full directly to the repairer, whereas using a non-approved repairer caps the amount reimbursed.
Geographic scope
Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
Full cover applies in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Liability cover automatically extends to the rest of Europe for up to 60 days; optional Comprehensive Cover Abroad extends full comprehensive cover to European Single Market countries (including Switzerland) for up to 90 days.
Unique selling points
- OUTbonus rewards claim-free customers with 10% of paid premiums back in cash (less taxes and levies) after 3 consecutive claim-free years.
- Optional roadside assistance provides up to two 24/7 emergency call-outs, 365 days a year, across Ireland and the UK.
- Glass damage is repaired or replaced at full cost with no excess when using an Approved Repairer, rather than the reduced caps applied elsewhere in the market for non-network repairs.
- Dedicated cover for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles includes accidental damage to a home wall charger up to €650.
- New-for-old replacement is provided if a car under 12 months old and under 25,000 km is written off, rather than a depreciated market-value payout.
Coverage limits
Accidental Damage to Own Vehicle
Covered
Covers accidental damage to or loss of the insured car up to its Market Value, including acts of Malicious Damage. An additional amount of up to 5% of the car's Market Value is paid for damage to declared Modifications/Accessories.
Total Loss / Write-off
Covered
If the car is stolen and not recovered, or is damaged beyond economical repair, OUTsurance pays the Market Value including declared Modifications/Accessories and spare parts. A 'New for Old' benefit replaces the car with a new equivalent if it was purchased new/as a demonstrator, the incident occurs within 12 months of first registration, and it has travelled fewer than 25,000 km.
Partial Loss / Repair
Covered
Repair or replacement costs for accidental damage that does not result in a total loss are covered up to the car's Market Value, at OUTsurance's discretion using new, OEM-equivalent or green (recycled) parts.
Fire and Theft
Covered
Covers loss of or damage to the car due to theft or attempted theft up to its Market Value, plus up to 5% of Market Value for declared Modifications/Accessories. Cover excludes accidental damage where keys/keyless entry were left unsecured or accessible in/near an unattended car.
Broken or Damaged Glass
Covered
Covers repair or replacement of the windscreen/windows and related bodywork scratches. Full cost is covered if an Approved Repairer is used; if a non-approved repairer is used, cover is capped at €150 for replacement and €50 for repair.
Damage due to Acts of Nature
Covered
OUTsurance's Comprehensive Car Insurance covers damage due to accident, fire, acts of nature, vandalism, or theft/attempted theft, up to the car's Market Value.
Malicious Damage / Vandalism
Covered
Accidental Damage cover explicitly includes acts of Malicious Damage (intentional damage inflicted by third parties who are not household members) up to the car's Market Value; the official product page also lists vandalism among the covered perils.
Roadside Assistance
Optional
Optional add-on for Comprehensive policies providing up to one hour's free roadside/doorstep labour, towing to the nearest garage, and if repairs cannot be done roadside and the customer is over 30km from home: onward public transport, a replacement vehicle for up to 48 hours, or overnight accommodation (max €35/person, €175 total). In England, Scotland and Wales, a replacement vehicle (max £100) or towing to a port (max £250) applies. Available only within Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
Courtesy Car
Optional
Optional add-on providing a courtesy car (typically an economy class 1.2 litre vehicle) via a nominated hire company for up to 14 days while the car is being repaired, or up to 21 days while a Total Loss claim is settled; not available if the only repair needed is glass damage.
Medical Expenses
€100
Pays medical expenses for accidental bodily injury suffered as a direct result of an accident by anyone travelling in the car, up to a maximum of €100 per person. This is a medical expenses benefit rather than a fixed personal-accident sum insured.
Key conditions
Repair network requirements
OUTsurance uses a network of Approved Repairer(s) that it has vetted. Using an Approved Repairer secures full-cost repair/replacement (e.g. for glass); using a non-approved repairer caps reimbursement (€150 replacement/€50 repair for glass). For accidental damage/theft claims generally, OUTsurance may repair at a repairer of its choice, replace the item, or pay a cash amount not exceeding the chosen repairer's quote, using new, OEM-equivalent or green (recycled) parts at its discretion.
Territorial scope
Cover applies in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Liability cover automatically extends to the rest of Europe for up to 60 days; the optional Comprehensive Cover Abroad extends full comprehensive cover to European Single Market countries (including Switzerland) for up to 90 days per policy year.
Anti-theft requirements
The policyholder must ensure the car is secured with activated security devices when unattended, all windows and sunroofs are fully closed when unattended, tyres comply with legal requirements, and the car holds a valid NCT certificate where required by law. Theft cover excludes damage occurring when keys or a keyless entry system are left unsecured in, on, or near an unattended car.
Claim notification deadline
Any event that may give rise to a claim must be notified within 48 hours of it occurring. Theft, attempted theft, vandalism or any other deliberate/malicious act must additionally be reported to An Garda Síochána (or the relevant local police authority) within 24 hours.
Deductible rules
The payable Excess is the combined total of the basic Excess chosen (shown on the Policy Schedule) plus any applicable additional Excess. Only one basic Excess (the highest) applies even if a claim spans multiple OUTsurance policies. An additional €200 Excess applies to claims reported more than 48 hours after the incident where a third party was involved and the policyholder was at fault. No Excess applies to roadside assistance claims or to glass claims where the glass is repaired (not replaced).
