Coverage limits
Accidental Damage (Own Damage)
Covered
Comprehensive cover pays for accidental damage to the insured vehicle up to its market value immediately before the loss, as declared in the schedule. RedClick chooses whether to repair, replace, or pay the cash equivalent; the excess shown in the schedule applies to every claim.
Section: What is insured? > Comprehensive
Accidental damage (up to the market value of your vehicle)
Total Loss
Covered
If the vehicle is uneconomical to repair, cannot be repaired, or has been stolen and not recovered, RedClick pays the lower of the value declared by the policyholder or the market value of the vehicle immediately before the loss, based on an engineer's assessment referencing industry guides. Payment is capped at the market value, not a fixed sum.
Section: Section 2 Own damage > Total loss claims
If the vehicle is a total loss we will pay either the value declared by you or the market value of the vehicle immediately before the loss or damage happened, whichever is the lower.
Partial Loss / Repair Cover
Covered
Repairable damage to the vehicle, its accessories and spare parts (on, in, or in a private garage) is covered under the Own Damage section of Comprehensive cover; RedClick chooses whether to repair or replace damaged parts, subject to the schedule excess.
Section: Section 2 Own damage
This section covers loss of or damage to the vehicle or its accessories and spare parts (whether on or in it, or in your private garage). We will choose whether to repair or replace the vehicle or any part of it or its accessories or spare parts, or pay to cover the amount of the loss or damage.
Theft and Attempted Theft Damage
Covered
Fire, theft and attempted theft damage to the vehicle is covered up to its market value. Cover is void for theft or attempted theft if the vehicle was left unattended and unlocked, or if the ignition keys/keyless-entry device were left in or near the vehicle.
Section: What is insured? > Third party, fire and theft
Fire, theft and attempted theft damage (up to the market value of your vehicle)
Windscreen Cover
€150
Standard on Comprehensive cover (optional add-on on Third Party Only/Third Party Fire & Theft). Covers repair or replacement of damaged/broken glass in the windscreen or windows (sunroofs, glass roofs and panoramic sunroofs excluded); a maximum of two claims per period of insurance is allowed and claims do not affect the No Claims Bonus. If work is not carried out by RedClick's approved windscreen specialists, payment is capped at €150 for replacement or €50 for repair; the schedule excess applies to replacement but not to repair.
Section: Are there any restrictions on cover?
If windscreen cover applies we will not pay for any amount over €150 for replacement or €50 for repair if the work is not carried out by our approved windscreen specialists
Natural Perils
Covered
Storm, flood and other weather-related damage fall under the general accidental damage cover of Comprehensive; the policy's general exceptions only specifically exclude loss or damage caused by earthquake or underground fire, and loss/damage caused by pressure waves from aircraft travelling at or above the speed of sound.
Section: General exceptions which apply to the whole policy
caused by an earthquake or underground fire
Malicious Damage / Vandalism
Covered
Comprehensive cover is described as Third Party, Fire & Theft plus cover against loss or damage (accidental or malicious) to the insured vehicle, i.e. malicious damage/vandalism is covered subject to the schedule excess.
Section: Read our frequently asked questions on Comprehensive car insurance > What is the difference between Third Party and fully Comprehensive?
Comprehensive cover is Third Party, Fire & Theft plus cover against the loss or damage (accidental or malicious) to the insured vehicle.
Breakdown Assistance and Home Start
Optional
The regulated IPID lists Breakdown Assistance and Home Start under 'Optional extras', and the policy booklet states this section only applies if shown in the schedule of insurance. Marketing pages on redclick.ie state that breakdown assistance is included as standard on fully Comprehensive policies and optional only on Third Party Only/Third Party Fire & Theft, which conflicts with the IPID's optional classification; see conflicts.
Section: What is insured? > Optional extras
Breakdown Assistance and Home Start
Courtesy Car / Hire Car After Theft
10 days
Per the current (July 2025) IPID, Comprehensive cover includes a replacement car for up to 10 days after theft (if not recovered within 24 hours) and a courtesy car for up to a maximum of 10 days while the vehicle is repaired by a recommended repairer (7 days if the vehicle is declared a total loss). An earlier policy booklet version stated 5 days for the hire car after theft and no fixed day-cap for the courtesy car (subject to a €320 cost cap if repairs are delayed awaiting overseas parts); the newer IPID figures are used here as the current terms.
Section: What is insured? > Comprehensive
Courtesy car cover for duration of repairs with an approved repairer up to max of 10 days
Personal Accident Cover
€6.5K
Optional extra paying the policyholder or their legal representative up to €6,500 if accidentally injured while travelling in, or getting into or out of, the vehicle and the injury alone results within three months in death, permanent loss of sight in one or both eyes, or loss of one or more limbs. Excludes suicide/attempted suicide and injuries to anyone driving while unfit due to alcohol or drugs.
Section: What is insured? > Optional extras
Personal Accident (up to €6,500)
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
Any driver must hold a valid full driving licence or valid learner permit for the vehicle being driven, must not currently be banned from driving, and must meet the conditions and limits of that licence; learner permit holders must be accompanied by a full licence holder.
SourceClause 3Page 14Section: General exceptions which apply to the whole policy
We will not cover the driver unless; a they hold a valid licence or valid learner permit to drive the vehicle and are not currently banned from driving; and b they meet the conditions and any limits of the driving licence.
Repair network requirements
Claims are typically handled by RedClick's own recommended/approved repairer network. A courtesy car is only provided while the vehicle is being repaired by one of these recommended repairers, and windscreen repairs/replacements must be carried out by RedClick's approved windscreen specialists to avoid reduced payment caps.
Anti-theft requirements
The vehicle must not be left unlocked while unattended, and the ignition keys or keyless-entry device must not be left in or near the vehicle. Theft or attempted-theft claims are excluded if these conditions are not met.
Claim notification deadline
Any accident, injury, loss or damage must be reported to RedClick immediately or by the next working day. In the event of theft, attempted theft or malicious damage, An Garda Síochána must be contacted immediately and a copy of the Garda report sent to RedClick confirming the cause of loss.
Deductible rules
Each own-damage, fire or theft claim is subject to the excess shown in the policy schedule, deducted from any payment. Windscreen claims carry a separate excess that does not apply if the glass is repaired rather than replaced; a payment card is required to settle the excess before windscreen replacement work is carried out.
Direct payment
RedClick chooses whether to repair or replace the vehicle or pay the cash amount of the loss.
Territorial scope
Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands; full policy cover automatically extends to other EU member states (and countries meeting EU minimum insurance requirements) for up to 93 days in any one period of insurance
