Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The Person Insured must contact Chubb Assistance (+353 (0)1 440 1762) immediately before incurring any costs under the Medical and Additional Expenses section, or as soon as is feasible if involved in a medical emergency such as an accident or cardiac situation. Failure to do so may result in the claim being rejected or payment reduced. For all other claims, notification must be made within 30 days of the incident.

Unauthorized treatment

If the Person Insured incurs medical costs without first contacting Chubb Assistance (except in a genuine emergency), the insurer may reject the claim or reduce the payment. Additional travel and hotel expenses not authorised in advance by Chubb Assistance are not covered. Any expenses incurred following the Person Insured's decision not to move hospital or return to Ireland after the date when Chubb Assistance recommends they do so are also excluded.

Purchase while abroad

This policy is available for purchase before departure and must be purchased prior to travel commencing. There is no provision in the policy documents for purchasing cover after the trip has begun. Cancellation cover under Section 1 starts from the date the policy is purchased for Single Trip policies.

Chronic conditions

Chronic or pre-existing conditions that conflict with the Health Declaration at Section 1.8 are excluded. Specifically, no cover is provided if a Person Insured is receiving or on a waiting list for treatment in a hospital or nursing home; is waiting for the results of any investigation, medical treatment or surgical procedure for any condition; or is choosing not to take prescribed medication or the correct dose. Medication taken before and continued during the holiday is also excluded from the medical expenses section.

Pregnancy

Complications in pregnancy diagnosed by a Doctor or specialist in obstetrics are covered. Persons due to give birth within 12 weeks of the date the trip ends are ineligible and cannot be insured under the Health Declaration. Persons travelling between 28 and 35 weeks pregnant must obtain written confirmation from a Doctor of their fitness to travel no earlier than 5 days before the outbound travel date.

pre_existing_conditions

All pre-existing medical conditions must be compatible with the Health Declaration statements confirmed at the time of application. The policy excludes cover for any pre-existing medical condition or injury that conflicts with any statements in the eligibility section (application page 3). Cancellation or curtailment resulting from a pre-existing condition affecting the insured, travelling companions, or immediate family is also excluded where the condition was diagnosed before the holiday was booked and could reasonably have been expected to result in a claim. Non-disclosure may lead to refusal of claims or policy cancellation.

coverage_duration_limit

Single Trip policies cover one holiday abroad for a maximum of 30 consecutive days (per the IPID; the policy document Key Benefits table confirms the maximum duration of any one trip is 30 days). If the holiday is 7 nights, 8 days of cover is needed; 14 nights requires 15 days. Cover ceases when the Person Insured arrives at their return destination in Ireland, or at the end of the trip duration shown on the Policy Schedule, whichever is sooner. If the return is unavoidably delayed due to a claim, cover continues without additional premium for the period of delay.
