Insurance Joint Stock Company BALTA
BALTA
BALTA is a motor casco insurance for the Latvia market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The policyholder chooses between a cash payout or direct settlement: BALTA pays the repair shop's invoice directly if there is agreement to use one of BALTA's partner or dealer service centers; otherwise the indemnity is calculated according to the OCTA technical-expertise valuation methodology.
Geographic scope
Policyholder selects one of four coverage territories: Latvia only; the Baltic States; Europe (approx. 35 listed countries); or an extended zone additionally covering Russia (European part), Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova.
Unless the policy states otherwise, Platīna KASKO cover under the T&C is valid in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Albania, Austria, Andorra, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, Cyprus, Kosovo, the European part of Russia, the UK, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Ukraine, Germany, North Macedonia, Sweden and Vatican City.
Unique selling points
- One of the widest partner repair networks in the market for this tier – 140 partner auto repair shops across Latvia, with claims trackable online via the BALTA app or the Mana BALTA self-service portal.
- A 2-year warranty on all repair work performed at BALTA's partner service centers, with BALTA taking full responsibility for repair quality.
- Fast claims turnaround – for claims up to 1,500 EUR repaired at a partner service center, BALTA issues a repair decision within 1 business day.
- Compensation up to 10,000 EUR is still paid even if the State Police were not called after a traffic accident where notification would normally have been required.
- Platīna KASKO adds new electronic-risk cover (up to 1,000 EUR) for damage caused by aftermarket anti-theft devices – a feature not included in BALTA's standard Zelta KASKO tier.
Coverage limits
Own damage (all-risk)
Covered
Any sudden and unforeseen physical damage to the vehicle is covered up to the insured sum, which equals the vehicle's market value at the moment of loss unless a fixed sum is stated in the policy.
Total loss / write-off
Covered
In case of write-off, indemnity is the insured sum minus 1% depreciation per full policy month and the applicable deductible; BALTA may instead replace the vehicle with an equivalent one.
Partial damage / repair
Covered
Costs are covered so the vehicle is restored to its pre-loss condition; the policyholder chooses direct payment of the accepted repair invoice or a cash indemnity.
Theft and robbery
Covered
Covers open or covert theft/robbery of the vehicle and damage inflicted while stolen. Full compensation applies if keys/remotes/registration were stolen from locked premises; only 50% if they were lost or stolen from a public place.
Glass / windshield damage
Covered
Windshield damage is covered under the base all-risk cover; no deductible is applied if the windshield is the only damaged part and it is repaired (not replaced with a full claim).
Natural perils
Covered
Damage caused by natural disasters (storm, hail, flood, lightning, earthquake, landslide, heavy rain/snow) is covered under the all-risk base cover, with no separate sub-limit stated for Platīna KASKO.
Vandalism / unlawful third-party actions
Covered
Losses caused by fire, road traffic accidents or unlawful actions of third parties (vandalism) are covered under the base all-risk cover.
Roadside assistance
Covered
"Palīdzība uz ceļa Plus" (roadside assistance Plus) is listed as a basic/core risk for Platīna KASKO in the official product information document; detailed service limits are set out in a separate appendix not covered by the reviewed documents.
Replacement vehicle
Optional
Available as an additional risk ("Lietošanas pārtraukšanas apdrošināšana"/replacement vehicle) that must be purchased separately; provides a rental car delivered/collected at a convenient location, or taxi/car-sharing services capped at 20 EUR per day per the policy's allowed number of days.
Driver personal accident
No limit stated
No mention of driver/passenger personal accident cover was found in the Platīna KASKO T&C, IPID, or comparison document.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
If the policy states a minimum age for the vehicle's youngest permitted driver and the at-fault driver at the time of loss is younger, the indemnity is reduced by 20%.
Repair network requirements
Repairs can be carried out at any of BALTA's 140 partner service centers across Latvia (per the Platīna KASKO T&C), with a 2-year warranty on repair quality; vehicles under 3 years old must be repaired at an authorized brand dealer. BALTA's general KASKO marketing pages state a network of 200+ repair companies company-wide.
Territorial scope
The policyholder selects one of four territories at policy inception: Latvia only; the Baltic States; Europe (about 35 named countries); or an extended zone adding the European part of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. The choice is stated on the policy and affects the premium.
Anti-theft requirements
The vehicle must be locked, windows closed, and anti-theft/immobilizer systems activated whenever left unattended; remote controls/keys of contactless immobilizers must be kept separate from ignition keys. Claims can be reduced or refused if the required anti-theft systems were not installed, not activated, or not functioning at the time of loss.
Claim notification deadline
Traffic accidents, fires/explosions, theft or falling-object damage must be reported immediately to the relevant authority (police, fire brigade, municipal police); BALTA must be notified without delay and the claim submitted personally. After a vehicle theft, registration documents and all keys/remotes must be handed over within 3 business days; if a stolen vehicle is later found, the owner has 30 days to decide whether to surrender it or repay the indemnity.
Deductible rules
No deductible applies if the windshield is the only damaged part and is repaired, or for storm/hail damage where the driver took reasonable precautions (e.g. parking under cover). No deductible applies if a known at-fault third party is liable and insured in a Green Card member state. The deductible is doubled (minimum 15% of the loss) for vehicle theft occurring in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine or Moldova.
