AAS BTA Baltic Insurance Company
BTA
BTA is a motor casco insurance for the Latvia market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
BTA settles claims cashlessly with its accepted repair network at its approved estimate; if the customer chooses their own repair shop, BTA transfers the calculated repair cost (minus deductible) directly to that workshop rather than paying the customer.
Geographic scope
Latvia, Baltic States, Europe or wider Europe+ region, selectable at policy inception
The policyholder selects one of four territories: Latvia only; Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia); Europe (a defined list of European countries including the UK, EEA and EFTA states); or Europe+ (Europe plus Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, European Russia west of the Urals, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkey and Ukraine).
Unique selling points
- 24/7 customer service line for reporting accidents and requesting assistance.
- Freedom to have repairs done at a trusted repair shop of your own choice instead of being limited to the insurer's partner network.
- Optional 'BTA repair line' upgrade removes the usual daily cap and day limit on the replacement car while your vehicle is being repaired.
- No deductible is applied on several add-on benefits such as lost keys, custom number plates, fuel-system cleaning and luggage cover.
- Base cover extends to natural-disaster damage such as storms, floods, lightning and hail, not just collision and theft.
Coverage limits
Own damage coverage
Covered
Covers damage to the insured vehicle caused by unforeseen circumstances (e.g. collision with an object, obstacle, animal, overturning); compensation is capped at the vehicle's market value or agreed new value, less deductible and unpaid premium.
Total loss (write-off) coverage
Covered
A vehicle is considered totally lost (bojāeja) when repair costs exceed 70% of its market value or new value; BTA compensates up to the market value (or new value if that optional cover was purchased), less deductible, unpaid premium and any retained wreck value.
Partial damage / repair cost coverage
Covered
Covers repair costs for the damaged vehicle, its parts or components to restore it to its pre-accident condition; repairs must be carried out for the amount approved by BTA at an accepted repair company, or reimbursed to a repair company of the customer's choice minus deductible.
Theft and robbery coverage
Covered
Covers theft (secret or open removal of the vehicle) and robbery (removal involving violence or threat of violence) of the insured vehicle, compensated up to market value (or new value if purchased), less deductible and other deductions.
Windscreen and glass damage coverage
Covered
Covers repair or replacement of the windscreen, window glass, sunroof glass and roof glass; a separate, typically lower 'glass deductible' applies if glass damage is the only damage from the event.
Natural disaster (perils of nature) coverage
Covered
Listed as a base risk in the product information document; covers vehicle damage caused by natural disasters such as storms, flooding, lightning and hail as part of the 'damage caused by unforeseen circumstances' basic cover.
Third-party unlawful action (vandalism) coverage
Covered
Listed as a base risk ('third parties' unlawful action risk') in the product information document, covering damage caused to the vehicle by unlawful acts of third parties such as vandalism.
BTA service line (maintenance scheduling assistance)
Optional
An optional benefit, valid only if selected in the policy, giving customers who call the support line information on repair companies in Latvia that can perform routine maintenance (oil, air/fuel filter changes) without a queue within 48 hours; maintenance work and material costs themselves are not covered.
Replacement vehicle coverage
Optional
Optional cover, valid only if selected in the policy, providing a replacement vehicle or reimbursing car-sharing/taxi costs if the insured vehicle cannot be used due to damage, total loss, theft or robbery, subject to a policy-defined maximum daily amount and maximum number of days; if the upgraded 'BTA repair line' option is chosen, no daily cap or day limit applies during repairs at an accepted workshop.
Driver and passenger accident coverage
—
A separate accident-insurance-type product that can be attached to the CASCO policy, covering treatment, medication, dressing material and injury costs for the driver and passengers resulting from a vehicle accident; minimum sum insured is EUR 1,500.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
The reviewed CASCO terms and conditions and IPID do not specify a minimum driver age or driving-experience requirement for coverage to apply.
Repair network requirements
Repairs must normally be carried out at a BTA-accepted repair company for the amount BTA has approved; if the customer chooses their own workshop, BTA reimburses that workshop's calculated cost minus deductible. For the replacement-vehicle benefit, restrictions apply if the vehicle is not transferred for repair within 6 business days.
Territorial scope
Coverage territory is selected at policy inception from four options: Latvia only, the Baltic States, a defined list of European countries, or 'Europe+' which additionally includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, European Russia west of the Urals, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkey and Ukraine.
Anti-theft requirements
Theft/robbery claims are not paid if the vehicle was not equipped with BTA-accepted anti-theft systems, was left unlocked, or an installed anti-theft system was not functioning (e.g. unpaid subscription, missed mandatory maintenance). Marketing materials specify that insured vehicles must generally have two keys with a factory immobiliser and two alarm remotes that react to door, hood and boot opening; some brands/exclusive or expensive vehicles may require additional anti-theft devices.
Claim notification deadline
The policyholder must inform BTA about an event as soon as possible via the Mans BTA app/website or by phone (+371 26 12 12 12), providing all information and following BTA's instructions; the damaged vehicle must not be repaired before BTA's permission except for urgent repairs needed to prevent greater damage.
Deductible rules
A separate deductible applies per event type (damage deductible, glass deductible, total-loss deductible, theft deductible); if a single event affects several insured object parts and triggers several additional covers, only the single largest applicable deductible is deducted. Online purchases typically offer a choice of EUR 140 or EUR 285 deductible; a minimum EUR 140 deductible applies to a second claim within the policy period unless a higher deductible is set; deductible is waived for several benefits (e.g. lost keys, custom plates, fuel-system cleaning, luggage, glass damage if the only damage) and reduced/eliminated when costs can be fully recovered from an EU/Latvia-registered insurer via subrogation.
