BTA
BTA is a motor casco insurance for the LV market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
BTA pays repair costs directly to the authorised repair workshop after deductible payment by the insured. If the insured chooses their own workshop, BTA transfers the compensation to that workshop up to the amount of BTA's own workshop estimate. Cash payment is also available (excluding VAT, minus deductible).
Geographic scope
LV
Selectable: Latvia only; Baltic States (LV, LT, EE); European countries (full list per §3.5.3); Europe+ (European countries plus Russia west of Urals, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan)
Unique selling points
- All-risk coverage: a single policy covers all sudden and unforeseen causes of damage, theft and robbery without listing specific perils — broader than most competitors' named-peril CASCO products.
- Replacement vehicle up to 35 calendar days per policy period (Option A compact or Option B mid-size), starting from day one of the vehicle being off the road — no waiting period.
- Towing and rescue costs within Latvia are covered without any monetary limit and without deductible as part of the base policy — competitors often cap or exclude this.
- New value insurance available for vehicles up to 2 years old / 60,000 km, reimbursing the full current dealer price of an equivalent new vehicle in case of total loss or theft — protecting against depreciation losses.
- Monthly subscription (abonements) purchase option with a fixed monthly payment for at least 12 months, enabling flexible CASCO coverage without an upfront annual premium.
Coverage limits
Own damage (all sudden and unforeseen causes)
Covered
BTA compensates damages to the insured vehicle caused by any sudden and unforeseen circumstances including road traffic accidents, fire, natural perils, animal damage, falling objects, glass breakage, third-party unlawful acts, theft and robbery. Compensation is up to the vehicle's Market Value (or New Value if that add-on is active). No separate monetary cap; the insured sum equals the market value.
Total loss (Bojāeja)
Covered
Total loss is declared when repair costs exceed 70% of the vehicle's Market Value at the time of the insured event. BTA compensates the Market Value (or New Value if applicable) minus the deductible, minus outstanding premium instalments, minus salvage value if the insured retains the wreck. After payout the policy lapses.
Partial loss / vehicle damage
Covered
BTA restores the vehicle to its pre-accident condition at a BTA-authorised workshop. For vehicles up to 7 years old, repairs are authorised at a workshop meeting manufacturer warranty standards. The insured may also use their own workshop; in that case compensation is capped at BTA's own workshop estimate. The deductible is deducted per claim; from the second claim onwards a minimum deductible of EUR 140 applies.
Theft and robbery
Covered
Covered as core risks (§3.1 of 4F6). Compensation equals Market Value (or New Value) minus deductible and outstanding premium. A 50% deductible applies if keys/registration documents were lost or stolen (except §6.2.3 scenario). In extended territories (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine etc.) deductible is doubled, minimum 30%. Policy lapses after payout.
Glass damage (windscreen and windows)
Covered
Mechanical damage to vehicle windows (windscreen, rear window, side and roof glass) is covered as a core risk if it is the sole damage in the incident (glass breakage risk). The police do not need to be notified for glass-only incidents. Compensation is up to the vehicle's Market Value; no separate monetary cap.
Natural perils (storm, flood, lightning, hail, falling objects caused by natural events)
Covered
Direct impact of storm, flood, lightning, hail and falling objects caused by the foregoing natural perils on the insured vehicle is covered as a core risk. Compensation is up to the vehicle's Market Value; no separate monetary cap.
Third-party unlawful acts (vandalism, malicious damage)
Covered
Unlawful destruction, damage, or theft of vehicle parts or accessories by third parties is covered as a core risk. Compensation is up to the Market Value; no separate monetary cap. Not covered if the policyholder, insured, family members or employees committed the act.
Roadside assistance (Palīdzība uz ceļa)
Optional
Available as a separate annex to CASCO Terms Nr.4F5-1 and 4F6. Includes 24/7 towing to authorised workshop, roadside repairs, fuel delivery, and transport of occupants. Specific usage frequency limits may apply per the annex. Towing within Latvia is covered without monetary limit and without deductible under the base 4F6 policy (§3.3.1); outside Latvia up to EUR 500 total per policy period (§3.3.2).
Replacement vehicle (Maiņas auto nodrošināšana)
Optional
Optional add-on (§3.2.3 of 4F6). BTA provides a replacement vehicle from the first day the insured vehicle cannot be used on public roads following a covered event, until repair completion (if compensation is in-kind) or until the compensation decision date (if in cash). Maximum 35 calendar days per policy period. Option A = compact class; Option B = mid-size. If BTA cannot supply directly, it reimburses rental costs up to the daily limit stated in the policy.
Driver and passenger personal accident insurance
Optional
Optional add-on. Covers treatment costs, medication, bandaging materials and injury-related expenses for driver and passengers resulting from a road accident. Minimum insured sum EUR 1,500 per the IPID. Also covers children's educational support up to age 24. Available as a rider to the base CASCO policy.
Key conditions
driver_age_experience_limit
No minimum driver age or experience requirement is explicitly stated in the BTA CASCO Terms Nr.4F6 or 4F5-1. The policy covers any authorised driver (the vehicle's lawful user) as defined in the terms. Coverage is voided if the driver does not hold a valid licence for the relevant vehicle category.
repair_network_requirements
Vehicle repairs must be carried out at a BTA-authorised workshop ('BTA akceptēts remontuzņēmums'). For vehicles up to 7 years old, BTA authorises repairs at a workshop meeting manufacturer warranty standards. The insured may also choose their own workshop, but compensation is then capped at BTA's own workshop estimate or the MTPL technical expertise methodology amount. Repairs must begin within 6 business days of the vehicle being delivered to the authorised workshop for the replacement vehicle entitlement to apply without a time limit.
territorial_scope
The insured can choose one of four territorial options: (1) Latvia only; (2) Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia); (3) European countries (full list per §3.5.3 including EU/EEA members plus Balkan and other listed states); (4) Europe+ (European countries plus Russia west of the Urals, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan). In extended territories (option 4) the theft/robbery deductible is doubled, minimum 30%.
anti_theft_requirements
The vehicle must be equipped with BTA-accepted anti-theft systems. Coverage for theft is excluded if: the vehicle was left unlocked; anti-theft systems were not activated or not operational; the manufacturer's instructions for keeping the system operational were not followed (e.g., timely subscription payments, maintenance). Two ignition key copies and two alarm/immobiliser control units are required. The alarm must respond to door, bonnet and boot opening and have audible and visual signals.
claim_notification_deadline
The insured must notify BTA as soon as possible after the insured event by calling the 24/7 helpline +371 26121212 or via www.bta.lv. For events other than traffic accidents (e.g., theft, vandalism) police must be notified immediately where required by local law. If notification to BTA is made later than 1 calendar day after the event, the insured must prove it was impossible to report earlier. For theft/robbery, BTA makes the payment decision within 30 business days of receiving all required documents.
deductible_rules
The default damage deductible is set in the policy (typically EUR 140). The insured may choose EUR 285 for a lower premium. From the second claim onwards a minimum deductible of EUR 140 applies. No deductible is charged if BTA can recover the full loss from a Latvian or EU-registered insurer under MTPL. For theft/robbery in extended territory (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine etc.) the deductible is doubled, minimum 30%. A 50% deductible applies to theft if keys/documents were lost/stolen (unless the §6.2.3 exception applies). Separate deductibles apply for damage, total loss, and theft as stated in the policy. The largest applicable deductible is used when multiple deductibles could apply to a single event.
