Compensa Vienna Insurance Group ADB Latvia Branch / Compensa Life Vienna Insurance Group SE Latvia Branch
Compensa
Compensa is a motor casco insurance for the Latvia market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Compensa typically settles directly with the repair company chosen together with the client and pays that company's invoice itself; the client only pays the deductible.
Geographic scope
Latvia / Baltics / Europe / Europe + CIS (as selected in the policy)
The policyholder selects one of four territorial options: Latvia only; the Baltics (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania); Europe (an extensive list of European states); or Europe + CIS (Europe plus Belarus, the European part of Russia west of the 55° meridian, Moldova and Ukraine).
Unique selling points
- KASKO premiums can be split into 4 or 12 instalments to ease budgeting.
- KASKO can be purchased and subscribed to fully online through Compensa's e-shop.
- A single 24/7 hotline (8888) provides roadside assistance dispatch and policy consultations at any time.
- Manufacturer-installed accessories, roof boxes, bike/ski racks and EV charging cables are automatically insured without needing to be separately listed on the policy.
- All-risk cover protects against a broad range of losses, including collisions with wild animals, in addition to standard accident and theft risks.
Coverage limits
Own damage cover
Covered
Covers any sudden and unforeseen damage to the insured vehicle (e.g. collision, falling objects, fire, explosion, natural perils, third-party wilful damage), except for cases listed as exclusions; indemnity is based on repair cost or market value, less the deductible.
Total loss cover
Covered
If the vehicle is destroyed, stolen or hijacked, indemnity is calculated based on the vehicle's market value at the time of the event, capped at the sum insured stated in the policy if that is lower; deductible and unpaid premium instalments are deducted.
Partial damage repair
Covered
Repair or replacement costs necessary to restore the vehicle to its pre-accident condition are reimbursed, less the applicable deductible; repairs may be carried out at a client-chosen workshop or, if noted in the policy, at an authorised dealer.
Theft and robbery cover
Conditional
Covers open or concealed theft/hijacking of the vehicle and damage occurring while it was stolen, but only if theft/burglary cover is explicitly marked on the insurance policy; theft cover is void if the installed security systems were not activated or in working order.
Glass damage cover
Covered
Windscreen, side and rear glass damage is covered under the general damage cover. The policy's glass deductible applies only when the glass is replaced at a Compensa-designated post-warranty service; otherwise the standard damage deductible applies (minimum EUR 160). No deductible applies if the glass is repaired (not replaced) at a designated service.
Natural perils cover
Covered
Damage from natural perils such as storm, hail, flood, landslide, earthquake, heavy rain, heavy snowfall and lightning is covered under the general damage cover.
Vandalism / third-party malicious damage
Covered
Damage or destruction caused by the deliberate actions of a third party is covered under the general damage cover, except for cases falling under the theft or burglary provisions.
Roadside assistance
€700
Available as an optional add-on (governed by the HELP26 terms) if explicitly marked on the policy; provides 24/7 assistance such as evacuation, minor on-site repairs, fuel delivery and driver/passenger transport, with a combined limit of EUR 700 per insured event across the chained services; call +371 6755 8888.
Replacement vehicle
Optional
Optional add-on: if the vehicle cannot be used after an insured event, Compensa can provide a rental car (maximum daily cost and number of rental days stated in the policy) without applying a deductible, or reimburse pre-approved rental expenses up to 20 days; separately, under the HELP26 roadside-assistance rider a compact-class rental for up to 3 days can be arranged if repair cannot be completed within 1 working day.
Driver and passenger accident insurance
Optional
Optional add-on covering injury, disability or death of the driver and passengers, governed by separate driver and passenger accident insurance terms (VPNGA26), applicable only if marked on the policy.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
If the vehicle was driven by a person whose age or driving experience does not match what is stated on the policy, indemnity is reduced by 20% (minimum EUR 160), unless a fully liable, identified third party is covered under OCTA for an accident in Latvia, or the accident had no causal link to age/experience.
Repair network requirements
Reasonable repair costs are covered if repairs are carried out at a repair company of the client's choice in Latvia; repair at an authorised manufacturer dealer's workshop is only covered if that risk is specifically marked on the policy.
Territorial scope
Coverage applies within the territory selected in the policy: Latvia; the Baltics; Europe (extensive list of states); or Europe + CIS (adds Belarus, European Russia west of the 55° meridian, Moldova and Ukraine).
Anti-theft requirements
Theft/burglary indemnity is refused if the required security systems were not installed, not working, not activated, had unpaid subscription fees, if the vehicle was left unlocked with open windows/hatches/retractable roof, or was left running.
Claim notification deadline
The insurer must be notified and a written claim submitted no later than 3 business days after the event; the competent authority (e.g. police) must be informed immediately without leaving the scene where required. If police notification was required but not made, indemnity for the whole insurance period is capped at EUR 10,000, unless the client submits photo/video evidence from the scene, in which case the cap does not apply.
Deductible rules
A deductible is deducted from indemnity unless the policy states otherwise, with different deductibles applying by case type: damage deductible, total-loss deductible, theft deductible, and glass deductible (only when glass is replaced, not repaired, at a Compensa-designated post-warranty service; otherwise the damage deductible applies, minimum EUR 160). No deductible applies to zero-deductible add-on risks (e.g. collision with another vehicle/animal, key restoration, personal belongings, sports equipment, wrong-fuel refill).
