Direct payment

For policies bought online, payment is made by bank transfer to ERGO's account in a single payment at the moment of purchase; through other distribution channels, payment is due by the policy start date in a single payment or per the schedule stated in the policy, by bank transfer or cash, following intermediary practice.

Geographic scope

Latvia

Covers accidents in all European Economic Area states, plus Switzerland, Andorra, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland; one source (2023-12 edition) also lists Montenegro explicitly, while two other IPID versions omit it.

Unique selling points

  • Free driver accident insurance (death, disability, injury) worth 1,000–2,000 EUR when buying an OCTA policy for 6 months or longer.
  • DubultOCTA lets you claim compensation directly from ERGO for your own vehicle's damage even if you were partly at fault, without waiting for the other driver's insurer.
  • Optional 24/7 roadside technical assistance for vehicles up to 3,500 kg in case of breakdown or accident, bundled with DubultOCTA cover.
  • Policies can be purchased and paid for entirely online, with instant coverage from the moment of the bank transfer.

Legal Defence Cover

No limit stated

None of the three IPID documents mention a separate legal defence/legal expenses cover under this OCTA product.

Source

Green Card / International MTPL

No limit stated

The IPID documents describe the standard OCTA's territorial scope (EEA plus a few listed states) but do not describe a Green Card as part of this product; a Green Card for travel outside this territory would be a separate ERGO product not confirmed within these three documents.

DubultOCTA plus Roadside Technical Assistance

€500

Optional add-on combining DubultOCTA cover with 24/7 roadside technical assistance for vehicles up to 3,500 kg gross weight in case of breakdown or accident on public roads, with a liability limit of 500 EUR. One IPID version (the ERGO API download PDF) describes the same benefit without restating the 500 EUR limit.

Free Driver Accident Insurance

€1,000 – €2,000

Free driver accident insurance (death, disability, injury caused by an accident the insured driver is at fault for) is included when the OCTA policy is purchased for at least 6 months. The insured sum depends on the contract period and ranges from 1,000 EUR to 2,000 EUR. The 2023-12 IPID excludes electric scooters, motorcycles and trailers from this benefit, a third IPID version excludes only motorcycles and trailers, while the ERGO API-download IPID lists driver accident cover among optional additional risks without stating it is free or specifying an amount.

Passenger Accident Insurance

No limit stated

None of the three IPID documents mention a separate passenger accident insurance cover; only the driver's own accident cover is described.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Base OCTA risks are covered in all EEA states, plus Switzerland, Andorra, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the UK/Northern Ireland (one IPID version also lists Montenegro). DubultOCTA cover applies only in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia; roadside technical assistance applies across a wider list of European countries including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and most EU/EEA states.

Green card rules

The documents do not describe a Green Card scheme as part of this OCTA standard contract; the policy's territorial scope covers the EEA plus a small list of additional states without requiring a Green Card. Travel outside this listed territory is not addressed by these IPIDs.

Driver restrictions

The IPID documents do not specify any age, licence-holding, or driving-experience restrictions on who may drive the insured vehicle under this OCTA policy.

Claim notification deadline

One IPID version requires immediate written notification to the insurer of any event that could give rise to a claim ('nekavējoties'), while another IPID version (Gjensidige-style wording used by ERGO) specifies notification no later than 10 days from the accident. Separately, claims for property damage must be filed within 1 year, and claims for personal/health injury (including non-material damage) within 3 years of the accident, if it occurred in Latvia.

Bonus-malus rules

None of the three IPID documents specify bonus-malus (no-claims discount) rules for this OCTA product; this information is not contained in these sources.
